To be fair, "I wish I had a child white as snow, red as blood, and black as ebony" was from the original fairy tale. On the other hand, in the original fairy tale, Snow White was considered "fairer than the queen" when she was seven years old, because back then people didn't give a single fuck about puberty. Also also, in several of fairy tales (there are actually a few, and the last two things only applied to one, but still), the bite of the poison apple gets stuck in Snow White's throat, and she gets locked in a coffin and grows up because reasons until a prince finds her and declares that he is madly in love with her because she's pretty, and dislodges the bite of apple from her throat, not kiss her. ALSO also also, professional historians or literature experts or whatever the hell they are analyzed the original fairy tales and determined that Snow White's mother didn't LITERALLY die, it's that the woman she was died metaphorically and she became a new woman who was evil to Snow White out of jealousy. And now I want an apple.

Okay, first they did it with Snow White in this movie, then with Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and then Peter Pan in freakin' Pan. Hollywood, I must ask you to please stop making characters from fairy tales and children's literature into "The Chosen One". Just because it worked in Harry Potter doesn't mean it's going to work in every fantasy movie. It also turns into the laziest damn story trope unless it's done really well.
@lunadoves8 жыл бұрын

@cberdej049 жыл бұрын
Koekkie Koelkastrijder Just pointing out, they specifically chose Kristen Stewart to play the fairest even though Charlize theron is clearly prettier, it emphasizes the fact that even though Snow White wasn't prettier than the queen, she was still the fairest based on what was inside, not outside. It wasn't about looks alone. The queen was obviously more beautiful, but that's all she had, on the inside she was a monster. Fairest of them all isn't just about looks.

Is it just me or do most films that go for the whole"woman empowerment" thing do the "guy acts stupid to give the female protagonist a cheap feeling of empowerment" thing? I feel like way to many "Girl power" films use that trick...

David Gomez Really most of those girl empowerment movies are also dystopia movies. Honestly I'm not sure why there is such an intrest in both.
@Rosef1re9 жыл бұрын
David Gomez yeah, I definitely notice this in all the Disney movies lately.. Tangled, Frozen, Brave. Like.. why not show that boys and girls are no different by making them equals instead of just dumbing down the guys to make the girls seem better?

David Gomez This is actually the only one, Frozen was kind of a sibiling-love thing (Kristoff wasn't stupid and Hans was, you know), Brave was mother-daughter bonding and resolving their problems with/without violence (only the princes were dumb, the other ones were very spot-on) and Tangled you can barely feel this specially since Flynn is very down to earth

David Gomez Well, many "man empowering" movies use the exact same trick, don't you think? But we don't really notice it, because it's expected.

Kristen Stewart is like the perfect actress for an M. Night Shamalan film. Think about it, she already does everything that literally every Shamalan character does. She is virtually emotionless with a blank stupid stare the whole time even when it should be the emotional height of the film, she talks in a droll, almost bored tone, she's basically just a plastic doll that can move and talk on her own.

3:40 Also, horses cannot lie down for any extended amount of time or they will literally crush their own internal organs. It always bugs me when movies show them on their knees.
