If you cross Good Will Hunting with the Bourne movies, you'd probably get something cool, but these people came up with The Accountant. A movie that is right on the border between really good and really average.
Thursday: Animated sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Actually the relationship between the two brothers was well established. When the mother leaves because the one brother's problems due to his autism the other brother flips the mother off showing he already took up for his brother. We see both of them suffering the same abuse/training together so we know they went to hell and back together which we could likely assume made a strong bond. Then in the car in France the father said the one brother's lesson was wether he wanted to be a victim, the other brother's was loyalty. There was no need for a bunch of dialogue to establish the relationship between these two brothers it was well established threw other means and I personally prefered the way they did it over adding extra dialogue in the flashbacks. Regardless, good video.

I'm pretty sure the whole point of the loud music and flashing lights was that it wasnt comforting. He has trouble with extreme sensory input and has to subject himself to the in order to keep himself adjusted and prepared.

Doing some Games speaking as someone who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at age 9 (in 2002), and who has to deal with major sensory overload issues every day, you are at least halfway correct. Aspies often freak out when we are exposed to bright lights and/or loud noises with little to no warning. If Christian wasn't raised the way he was, then in my opinion, it is quite likely that he would have a meltdown because of the sensory overload. However, given the, frankly, brutal training regime that Christian and Braxton grew up with, it is possible that for Christian, the flashing lights and loud music could actually be a calming ritual that would work to defuse a potential meltdown. It may have started out in Christian's childhood to build up his tolerance for the sensory overload of daily life, but over time, it may have become something he relied on just as much as his "Solomon Grundy" chant.

@@atraxuswraithe6031 Time later I watch the movie I discover that, the noisy sound or bright light can freak them out. Besides that, I was watching the same movie with a friend, that same scene and my friend (who trained MMA) told me that guys who train do that to their legs (the part with the wood roller thing) to loose sensitivity in that area, so when they kick their adversary and crash leg with leg, will not hurt as usual (of course you have been kick/ hit yourself by accident with a chair or table in that zone, hurts like shit!). Under my idea, what he is doing there is training himself against pain (physical and mental) and/or thing that make him unconfortable (loud noise/bright lights).

Yeah, what I really liked about the movie is that it fakes you out with stuff like that: I was already rolling my eyes when there was that almost-love scene, but then it did something different. Same thing with the feds chasing him: standard Hollywood would involve a confrontation in which the agent really, really doesn't want to shoot the accountant, but he purposely draws a gun so that the agent has no choice -- but again, the movie cleverly avoids that cliche.

That point at 0:29 where he says " '20 miles south of Chicago' is way too specific" that's actually playing into Ben Affleck's character. I'm a Psychological Behavior Analyst that works with people on the spectrum. Some on the Autism spectrum, such as Affleck's character, often have these compulsions, and often these compulsions include being extremely specific with details of anything. Like, if you were to ask a kid who is 5'11 and has Asperger's how tall they are. They may tell you their exact height in centimeters down to the decimal (180.34999). Genius!

2:20 that is LITERALLY THE FARTHEST FROM COMFORTING! (I'm autistic as well so I can understand) the stuff he's doing is literally everything he hates! Loud music, flashing lights, being touched, he does it all at once to get used to it, to try and get himself more comfortable with it all, so he can adapt to living with normal people.

@g4mmalotus937

Adam h I personally haven't tried this approach, but that's mainly because my autism wasn't ever that bad. Every case of Autism is somewhat unique, but usually the person is extremely skilled in some area, but uncomfortable around other people in some way. For me, it took adapting to what my major shortcomings were in a controlled setting where I can end on my own time with no consequences. He is the same. Getting used to those things that made him emotionally unstable all at once, in his own room where he can turn it off if it's too much, is not only extremely helpful, it's extremely efficient, something I can admire. In short, it would absolutely work, and if you're uncomfortable with those three things, best to adapt to them in the most efficient way possible.

G4mmaLotus G4mmaLotus thank you for the reply, I know that in therapy for anxiety disorders some people do that and its called "flooding". Personally, my anxiety is too bad to face those things head on that way. I've heard it working for some people but it takes a lot of strength and willingness to face whats wrong. I'm a coward :p it sounds like you're doing well at adapting and that's great! No matter how severe or less intense (i dont know the word) I can't imagine the resolve you'd need to throw yourself into what makes you uncomfortable (even in a safe space where you can manage it) good for you :D

The father was well-meaning but abusive. There's no way to make someone who's autistic neurotypical. Christian functions at a high level but he carries around a lot of shame and pain and it's debatable whether he's happy and certainly doesn't have a very full life. His (only) friend, hasn't had an abusive childhood, was allowed to be more of themselves and is similarly functional.

Another sin. The computer girl's computer is identified by a BX10 by the little kids' dad who claims to be in software development. He then goes on to say that you could hack into the Pentagon with a computer that good. But the BX10 is the model of the case and not the actual computer. That PC is custom built and thus he should have no insight as to how powerful the PC is. Miffed me as a PC gamer

Not Necessarily. BX10 could be a proprietary blend of spices... i mean components, that is being combined and sold as a single unit for high-end applications to firms or individuals not savvy enough or not bothered to construct their own PC's. It could be like a cookiecutter Alienware thing for high-end applications. If so, it could easily be identified on teh case, which may be custom made for the company that makes the computer. This is not uncommon in the real world actually. They often come to be known by their specific call numbers or model numbers instead of their brand and the like. Google G20CB Its a very unique blend of components sold as a single unit for high-end gaming applications.

The computer case model in the movie is just a Corsair Air 540. You could fit a nice GPU or two in there with some watercooling. But much of the space is used for the oversized cable management section behind the motherboard. I cringed a little at that scene.

I think you will find that not everyone who watches these movies is as intimately versed in the layout of various North American city skylines as you are. Honestly, if there isn't the Hollywood sign or the CN tower/Skydome in the shot I'd have no way to tell one random grouping of giant skyscrapers from another. And yes, those are the only two NA cities I can recognize by skyline. Without you telling me it's Chicago, Illinois, USA I'd be lost. So... +1 sin for removing a sin for committing a sin.

Another detail (among many) that ticked me off about this film was the scene where he was writing down the accounting records on the walls. He brought 6 black markers with him, and 6 red markers. All were apparently empty by the end. It is OBVIOUS that he would not use nearly as much red ink using any conventional method. If he were so well versed in this practiced, he would surely have known that. Why the f*** can't Hollywood hire some detail people to sort this stuff out? It's lazy, and a big reason I don't watch many movies anymore. I can't take them seriously!
@haniyyahn
@haniyyahn 2 жыл бұрын
The thing for me is that the type of markers he used are refillable yet we see him throw them away. It could be that he just likes the feel of writing with that particular brand of marker BUT you pay a premium for them because they are refillable, so this was a headscratcher for me.

I always thought he discarded them not because they were empty but because the tips of the markers would wear down to a point he no longer liked. Cuz when he throws them away they are still inking on the bin and the other markers. I actually think it's am incredibly subtle detail.

I went to jr. high with a pair of identical twin boys. They HATED each other. Every few weeks they'd get in fistfights. I can't tell you how awesome it is to watch a person essentially fight *_himself._* It doesn't take long before you have no idea who you're rooting for.

You're assuming that Lamar had Rita hire the Accountant for that specific job (even though it was Rita who hired him). How do you know that he didn't just mention the Accountant at some point in their career? (Maybe Lamar was planning to get dirty and make some money for a while and mentioned him or put him in the companies contacts as a future hire / contractor). Also- we cant assume that Rita was actually in on it - what if she suspected Lamar and hired him for that reason?- That would explain why she got killed also. Finally; even if it WAS Lamar who told Rita to hire him or if Lamar actually hired the Accountant himself- its clear that Lamar had made the mistake of under-estimating him a few times. EDIT: Also - yeh Ray needed Marybeth to get Christian face- because Ray never actually saw the accountants face. That was pretty clear in the following scene- he did hear his non-distinct male voice but that's about it.. ALSO yeh if Lamar knows the Accountant- he prob knows his also hitman bro, Brax. ALSO yes it makes sense that people don't know the Accountant is badass- he seems to keep that to himself, he didn't pursue being a hitman like Brax so it makes sense that Lamar (or any other contact of the Accountant) would be surprised that he is an autistic John Wick.

What Christian was doing with the loud music flashing lights and self induced pain is Is intentionally over stimulating his senses. Autism is often coupled with a disorder where one can be easily overstamulated by external sounds, visuals, touches, textures, tastes, smells, ect. The way that his father raised him was to intentionally overstemulate him so that he would get used to the overstemulation. And it's clearly a habit that stuck with him well into adulthood. I personally don't have the oversimulation part of the autism as bad as most people I think with autism do but but specifically smells, tastes, and some textures on my nails bother me.
