When mentioning how the family in the beginning must've been heavy sleepers to sleep through those gunshots. It should be mentioned that the fact that they didn't wake up when the gun shot off and they were all found lying on their stomachs in their beds, (if you've seen the photos) is actually a real mystery as to what happened during the real life Amityville Horror

I know I’m dating myself here, but as someone who was a kid during the late 1970s - those grocery bags were two weeks of groceries. Back then, grocery stores offered three different sizes of paper grocery bags (one that was big enough to hold a lot of groceries). The bags seen in the movie weren’t the right bags, but they were technically claiming they were. I know this might be an unimportant fact to some, but for those people who weren’t born then - I thought they might find it interesting. Here’s another fun fact: grocery stores didn’t start using plastic bags until the early to mid 1990s. I used to work for a now defunct grocery store chain when I was a teenager in the the 1990s. I remember when the store first received plastic grocery bags, and how we were encouraged to offer these bags in place of paper bags because 1) They were cheaper for the company to produce and 2) The first public movement to ‘save the trees’ became a national headline. This was when the world took steps to preserve what was left of the rainforest. It took a long time to convince customers that plastic was better than paper, but it eventually happened. But once everyone adopted plastic, the environment faced another dilemma: the plastic bags the stores were told to use were not biodegradable. But once recycling became a national program, that issue disappeared.

A friend of mine knew the Lutzes, and pretty much concluded (like most people) that they concocted the story so as to market it and get out of the massive debt that they had gotten into. Turns out that I went to a party at a house just two doors down, and I was a bit dismayed when I saw the horror house. Gone were the creepy attic windows, and this neighborhood was nothing as depicted in the movie. This was a crowded suburban street, and the so called "lake" was a small canal behind the row of houses. A funny story about the horror house is that a group of gay guys wanted to buy it, move it to Fire Island, and set it up as a horror themed dance club! (It did not happen).

A rifle silencer barely reduces the noise the rifle makes. Contrary to films and video games, a silenced weapon is just better at not being heard from a great distance, not completely silent. Whatever the case, it's clear that nobody knows why the people stayed where they were. Either it was the "Deer in the headlights" reflex, or... Perhaps it was something else. Whatever the case, we can only theorize why.

These movies are about people and families going insane. If you don't look at it as spirits being real but rather an escalating form of schizophrenia and hallucinations, it makes much more sense and more enjoyable. Some things that happen to the characters need to be interpreted figuratively rather than literally. People should buy my "Impact" a James Grider novel on Amazon so I can afford a used car. I interpreted that these movies are stories of escalating madness based on Stefan Molyneux's claim that magic in fiction is representative of madness. It makes sense why the power of the spirits escalates throughout the movie. The same way mental illness escalates.

9:29 I'm going to have to weight in here on one of the deeper more thought provoking concepts of the film. When this character initially sees the basement windows from outside, she feels it's creepy and evil and this is just not a place she cares to be close to being of sane rational mind. However, after she's convinced of the power that emanates from the basement, she could care less that the Devil himself could be lurking down there. Because of all that power, she feels compelled to get as close to it as possible.

Just a few things: The DeFeo's (the family that was murdered in the house) were all shot in bed and (aparently) never woke. There was no evidence of drugs in their system and none of the neighbors heard it either, something that has not been explained. The "one month later" was their moving in day, not that they had been living their for a month. Jodie (the invisible evil friend) was said to be a pig in the book and the Amityville story seems to have made popular the "not so imaginary 'friend'" trope. George Lutz was not the same person as Ronald "Ronnie" DeFeo, aka "Butch" who shot and killed his family in the Amityville House November 13, 1974. In the book they are said to resemble each other though George was about five years older, thicker in build and had lighter hair and eyes, but they both wore similar beards and shaggy 70s hair. The movie exagerates their similarities but they were not the same man. George died back in 2006 and Ronnie is still (as of this point) in prison and he has been the whole time.

A lot of people have a fascination with the paranormal. The Lutz family did manage to lure Ed and Lorraine Warren to the house to "investigate" the claimed haunting in an attempt to give their story credibility. The show "Ghost Adventures" also did an "investigation" there making another attempt to give credibility to the story the Lutz family told. Not sure anyone outside of "paranormal" circles actually believe any of the stories though since other families have lived in the house since the Lutz family, apparently without incident.... The Lutz family lawyer admitted that the stories were fabricated and Ron, who committed the murders in 1974, keeps changing his story in regards to what actually took place. Only the Lutz family and "paranormal investigators" are still maintaining that the stories are factual. The church refused any services because they failed to find any evidence of a demonic presence. The fact that Ed and Lorraine Warren were involved in the propagation of the story, pretty much proves it to be a hoax.

Clearly the Lutz’s account of things was either a heap of shit or grossly exaggerated or both. However, the fact that the entire family who occupied the home beforehand were all murdered without any of them waking up from the gunshots, with all their bodies unmoved and remaining in their respective beds, is frightfully eerie and just downright fucking bizarre...

One issue... You count the family members slepping while some are shot as a movie sin. This is how the actual murders occurred in this home. To you, reality is apparently stranger than fiction in this case. Otherwise, nicely done.
@Paulafan57 жыл бұрын
It seemed like they were sleeping when they were shot, but the psycho killer could have shot them in bed, then tucked them all in after he was done. Forensics back then were poor, so there's no way to know for sure if they were sound asleep when all of them were shot.

The 1979 version is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. The scene with the two red eyes outside the window, the scene with two red eyes INSIDE the window, the intensity with the woman who starts speaking more and more possessedly about the basement, those are some of the most frightening scenes I have seen.
