The hostage scene of the two boats where the two groups can't justify killing each other, there is something is so... human about it. Criminals that have reached rock bottom and have little to lose yet don't do it, and the citizens who know how unfair it is to pitted against the others, but still refuse to kill them because they know they'll be as bad as them. For a movie all about grittiness and realism, this moment of humanity shines through.

Whatever was supposed to happen when they hit the denotators, it didn't, it just goes to show Joker was wrong about people. Hell, him keeping a detonator as a failsafe shows that even he accounted for this show of empathy getting in the way of his message, making it inherently hypocritical

Not take it seriously in what way tho? Yeah, a big portion of these sins might be nonsensical and have dumb oversights in them, but a lot of them are also correct and make good points, and they are legit logical flaws and overlooked plot holes of the movie that the writers/creators allowed to be (either intentionally or not). Yes, most people are probably watching these sin videos for pure silly entertainment, but it doesn't mean you can watch it only for that. These videos also have some educational value to them.
@finnfin

@@king__iopa6841 "These videos also have some educational value to them." Very, very little. 80% of the sins on this channel are questioning insignificant details, continuity errors, pop culture references, personal opinions, and jokes. and the rest 20% can mostly be explained "away" with movie nerd jargon, like: rule of cool, not giving out all the details, having the finished product have better pacing this way, conveying an abstract concept better through picture that way, or simply being mostly unimportant to the plot/character arc/moral of the story, etc. etc. etc. Cinemasins is practically just entertainment. Just food for thought: Do you think that Christopher Nolan would really get something substantial out of this, education wise?

No offense to Eckhart, as it has nothing to do with his acting, but I feel he was more interesting as Harvey Dent before he went completely loony. Taking a suspect hostage, making them think they might die off a coin toss. Really sketchy stuff. Once he became Two-Face he became pretty one-note. He shows up to people who wronged him, flips a coin, and kills. It's just not that interesting compared to everything the Joker is up to, like blowing up the hospital, doing the hostage swap, and the ferry test.

The TRUE voice of the Batman/Bruce Wayne. The DCAU's consistent standard of excellence was built on Batman:TAS and set the bar so high that everything else seems like a disorganized reenactment by comparison. Idk why either, Conroy didn't alter his voice too drastically between the two(Batman and Bruce). Just enough to where you knew they were in completely different headspaces. Bruce's voice was more relaxed, almost leisurely, with an ever-present "open" quality. Whereas Batman's voice was much more concise, consistently deeper(but not drastically so). The kicker is that you could tell they were two sides of the same voice, to match the personalities in the same head. To me, that would seem easier and MUCH more effective.

The courtroom gun was composed of carbon fiber and likely had springs made of non-ferrous metals (thus very weak) which is why it made it through any metal detectors (which any government building has) and malfunctioned when the creep tried to shoot Dent. My guess is the writer(s) and/or armorer for the movie took that small detail from _Die Hard 2_ and went with it from there... only in that movie the G-l-o-c-k "7" was described being made of porcelain and cost a fortune. Neither of the aforementioned pistols exist in real life. Only in Hollywood.

Actually, people (in universe) *don't* know he can't shoot lasers out of his eyes. The stories are so embellished and Batman is so naturally reclusive, that even when he's on the Justice League people (some of them at least) tend to assume he has powers. Heck, it's common in Batman retellings for his early years to include an urban legend that while trying to describe Batman, actually perfectly described Man-Bat (usually long before Man-Bat even appears). Another one is vampire. Most of it's bat themed.

Exactly. He needed Harvey to become insane murderer to prove his point that anyone can be corrupted, that's the whole reason he was even there. What makes anyone think that what he said to Harvey in that scene wasnt tailored to push Harvey over the edge. Especially since he's lied about himself multiple times and we know he's good at predicting people's reactions. Like why wouldn't he lie to manipulate him.

Fun fact about this: When the Blu Ray was first released they did a live texting commentary with Christopher Nolan where people could ask questions to him while watching the movie at a specific time and date. Whether that was actually him, I'll choose it was. Anyway, when this scene came up someone asked him "could he explain the five people Gordon was talking about." to which Nolan replied: "Not at this time." They left it at that but since they didn't address it in Rises, it was most likely an error or never released scene.

I still stand by that the ferry sequence is my all time favorite movie scene for two reasons. One, it shows a conflict of morality and humanity for both the civilians and the criminals in a brilliant demonstration of the Joker's belief about society and, ultimately, the rejection of it. Two, what if the Joker actually did give them the detonators to their own boats? Except 2 major plotholes. One, Batman doesn't need to sacrifice himself at the end, since there is no evidence Dent killed anyone. Second, the scene with the boats doesn't make sense. People on boats don't know that Batman (or anyone) is coming to their rescue. Therefore, logical and moral thing to do is to destroy other ship. If they destroy other ship, their own ship and everyone on it is saved. If they don't destroy other ship, then Joker will destroy both ships. In Joker's game, there is no way you can save other ship. Either you destroy it or Joker will destroy it. So why not destroy other ship? 500 dead people is better than 1000 dead people. Their decision to not destroy other ship doesn't save anyone (since they don't know Batman is coming).
@dragonsailorzero179

@@goranmilic442 You missed the point of the boat scene. It's not just about getting saved or not, it's about seeing the good in other people, in humanity. It's a reminder that not everything is straight logic, black and white, that people aren't just thinking about themselves. Some do, but we can band together and not fall for that trap, just like the people on the boats beat Joker's game by refusing to play. The boats scene is about people making the choice to say, 'it doesn't matter what could happen to me, I'm not going to tear down someone else, murder someone else, just to save myself.' No, they didn't know anyone was coming to save them or what would happen, but they choose to have faith and to forgo violence despite that.

@@dragonsailorzero179 That doesn't make sense. "Good in people" is about "saving others". What's the point of "being good", if you don't actually help anyone? I'm sure you agree about that. And it's not about saving yourself. It's not about pure logic. It's about saving others. Did you read my comment properly? There is no way to save other ship. There just isn't. Either you destroy it or Joker does. You agree? So, if you destroy other ship, which is doomed anyway, you save not just yourself, but anyone on your ship. By destroying other ship, you save 500 lives. By not destroying other ship, you don't save nobody. Why would you let 500 people die? Why would you choose destruction of both ships? Why?
@dragonsailorzero179
@dragonsailorzero179 Жыл бұрын
@@goranmilic442 I think you are missing, or negating the choice that was made. Both groups of people made a choice to save someone but choose to save someone else (the other boat). I say you are missing the point about what the scene says about humanity because both parties were selfless and chose not to blow up the other just to save themselves. They chose for the other to live. And that completely baffled the Joker. He thought he knew humanity, or at least Gotham. He thought for sure that people would throw anyone under the bus when it came time to save themselves. But both parties chose grace. They chose to trust the other; they saw the value of the lives on the other boat. By taking the risk not to denotate the other, they chose to save the other boat. It's easy to say that the prisoner boat should obviously be blown up at the expense of the other, but the question really is more complex and morally gray, even without bring in real world realities. (I do not recall if it's said in the movie, but in real life, not everyone on that prisoner boat would be convicted. Some might be innocent, either wrongly convicted or just still awaiting trail; some might be there because they can't post bail, etc.) There are also boat crew and prisoner guards on the boat. You could argue the guards are more valuable to society, as they do dangerous, important work. Now, maybe for you, it's just a numbers game, but me, again, I think it's more complex. Who is really to say that one life is worth more that another's? That one person's family member is worth saving over someone else's? And who knows what the future holds? How do you know that one of the people on either boat don't have some great future destiny/importance that you are cutting short? Even a convicted prisoner might turn their life around and end up doing good work, helping more people. Finally, if people on the boats think the way you do, that they might as well blow up the other so that some of them can live, then neither party ends up standing a chance, and they end up killing each other. Remember they can't communicate with each other. They don't know what the other boat will do and yes, they are taking a risk that they could all die, but by doing nothing, they are gambling that they could all survive. No, they don't know when or even if anyone is coming to save them, but they are taking the gamble. And maybe for some, it's not about saving the most amount of lives, what you call being good. For them, being good could mean doing the least amount of active harm and so for them it's better to nothing than to actively take a role in killing someone else, no matter what the reason. (Because again, who is to say one person's life is worth more than another's?). So I hope you understand now that the issue is a lot more complex than you make it; otherwise we'll just have to agree to disagree. I see where you are coming from, but for me, I would make that choice to do nothing. You don't know what you don't know. No, they don't know someone is coming to save them, but they don't know someone is not. They don't know how sincere the Joker is, if both boats won't get blown up anyway. They just knew that they weren't okay with risking harm to the other boat. I wouldn't be either.
@goranmilic442
@goranmilic442 Жыл бұрын
@@dragonsailorzero179 I never said people on one ship deserve to live more than others. All I said was very obvious truth - it's better than one ship is destroyed than two ships are destroyed. Ultimately, someone on ship will have to save 500 lives. I read your arguments carefully. Most of your arguments are valid when you have an hour to go (someone can rescue both ships, we are letting other ship to live). When you have one minute to go, your aren't valid no more. Chance of being rescued is now extremly low. If both ships decide not to detonate, one minute to go, like in the scene, then both ships are destroyed unnecesarilly. Their sacrifice is unnecesary, because what's the point of sacrifice, if you don't save anyone that way.

And its even more triple bullshit cause that's a Glock or something similar and nothing in that design allows non metal parts to function without massive changes to a brick of unrecognizable plastic.
