The book was brilliant and the setting really made it. The quintessential British semi-detached houses were as much of a character to me as the actual characters. The Americanised film shit all over it with those ridiculous giant American houses and the beautiful views. It was supposed to be a dreary suburb near London.

To me, the biggest problem is Rachel's accent vs everyone else's. I know the book is set in London (where travel by train is more common), so I was expecting Emily Blunt to keep her English accent, but it's clear that this adaptation made the stupid decision to set it in America, which raises this question: if she's divorced from her husband and has such a problem seeing him with his new family, why doesn't she just move back home?

The murderer isn't even hot enough to have been with all those women, not realistic. It's just my personal opinion,I just don't find him very attractive(while reading the book I imagined him to be a real hunk and he's pretty average looking) and it's clearly not the only thing that was wrong with this movie. There's multiple examples of couples in which one of them (usually women) are better looking than their partners so attraction clearly isn't all about looks and mostly has to do with charisma, personality and how likable and reliable someone can be. The fact this man was that popular with the ladies was because he gave each of them what they wanted and he molded himself to be the perfect man in their eyes. He was a narcissist and that made him very manipulative, which is shown by how he plays all these women. PD: I have had my eyes checked and almost 3 years later, I still don't find him attractive 🤷🏽♀️

You do realise how many people would be triggered by that? Any attempt to insult that movie is going to set of the people who cry misogyny at the slightest thing and then the people who say to calm down are going to come along attempting to be reasonable, before being drowned out by complaints from those who think the movie was shit(some of whom do hate it simply for being all female cast), which then sets off the first group's second wave, before it all devolves into a massive, controversial debate, attracting trolls, who then set off both sides for kicks and make the comment section talk about everything except the movie.

you can't really blame movie makers for including narration at the start. it's hard for them, using a medium that has like 800% less content than books.

11:40 Every job I've ever had, "fraternizing" with co-workers is a "fire-able" offense. Same with most of my friends' jobs. Now, we haven't exactly run the whole gamut on jobs, but it seems to be a pretty damn universal rule that I'd assume it being kosher is the exception, rather than the rule.

The 911 thing is so untrue that it's nuts. The one time I accidentally called 911 (fat-fingered the buttons), it ran long enough for me to reach across the keypad to hit the End button and nevertheless, I was phoned back immediately, explained myself, was warned not to do it again, and STILL had two officers show up on my doorstep. There is absolutely no chance that some amount of police wouldn't show up after the call abruptly ending after the bloke turned off the phone.
@ricochofsky82936 жыл бұрын
I've seen the movie three times and I love it. It's a taught psychological thriller, and Emily Blunt is brilliant. It's a very internal film, hence the narration and the therapy sessions. And I've heard actors say playing drunk is one of the most difficult challenges, and Blunt absolutely nails it. Btw, I wish people would stop referring to "the book." NO movie is "the book" it was based on. Get over it already.

Indeed. She was way too good for this movie. Bless her heart, she does her best but the script was the biggest failure this discount "Gone Girl" had. The movie was trying way too hard to be "Gone Girl" it completely misses the point of what made "Gone Girl" good (at least in terms of telling a compelling story with unreliable narration and switching character perspective).
