@@MrObscureinsanity there’s a few “points” to the DK tournament. Get Mil items and beat yugi yo restore the Kaiba corp name and have Pegasus and the big 5 take over the company. But as I stated in the 2nd video. He had actually met all the mil item holders besides yugi and bakura. Then he met yugi via vhs tape. So the whole point was to lure bakura?!?

That star chip system would be a cool turnament running system, kinda similar to ELO rankings but in this case with the added a) strategy of selecting how many chips / elo to wager and b) time pressure as it's first to 10 chips and no limit how many duels per hour. That pressure is increased if the duelists don't know how many chips the highest scorer has at any point in time.

The entire thing about Weevil cheating was made up for the dub. In the Japanese version, Pegasus told Weevil the rules as part of his reward for winning the tournament. Other than throwing away Exodia, he doesn't cheat until Battle City.

2:18 Sort of. There was a Yugioh forum I used to frequent. We would often have small tournaments, including a Goat Format one modeled after Duelist Kingdom. It wasn't exactly like this, though. Basically, due to our small numbers, we made it so you could never go below one star chip, but there were rules in place to keep you from just farming one person. The first four to reach ten star chips would compete in semi-finals and finals. 3:34 This is actually answered in the Japanese version. The duel arena appears by saying the phrase "Duel Standby!", whereas English Weevil just summons it with his psychic powers. 11:11 If I recall correctly, Summoned Skull is a very rare card in-universe. I think it's stated in the manga and/or Season 0, but it's been years since I've read/watched them. Regardless, if my recollection is correct, then it would be possible for Mai to not be familiar with Summoned Skull.

If someone agreed, we would use Dueling Network (and later Dueling Book) for the matches. This was a tournament that was hosted multiple times. I entered three of them, won two of them, and came second in one. Granted, none of us are professional-level players, let alone Goat Format experts. The first tournament was literally my first time playing Goat. I enjoyed it, though.

@@NitPik-p3r Apparently my reply never posted. The tournament was entirely online. We would use the forum's chat room to arrange matches, then play via Dueling Network (and later Dueling Book). Out of the three Duelist Kingdom tournaments I entered, I won two of them and came in second in the other. Granted, none of us were professional level players. The first tournament was literally my first time playing Goat, but I enjoyed it. I actually had so much fun with Goat Control that it actually ended up being the inspiration for my deck in a "Reverse Banlist" tournament hosted on the same forum. Half the players chose Dragon Rulers, but fell to "Metamorphosis Disk Commander for Thousand Eyes, then Norden for Shock Master". I got very lucky with the format the tournament was ran during.

In the manga, Yami actually bets his life against Weevil instead of his deck which is a lot more intense but in the Japanese version of the anime, when he says he bets his life, he is referring to his cards, not his actual life and then the dubbers removed any reference to his life in the wager. It went through an entire line of censorship before we got here.

He doesn't complete the statement, but the fact he was making it at all should mean he entered his Battle Phase. Instead, he goes back to Main Phase 1, plays a couple other cards, then re-enters the Battle Phase.

The cocoon is horizontal because it isn't summoned at all, it is used as an equip spell to the moth like in the TCG. That is the reason for weevils later asspull where when the cocoon (equip spell) is being destroyed he then still changes the larva (the monster that was equipped) to a, lesser, great moth, because the equip was destroyed but the monster inside supposedly survived somehow.

Like even if he didn't want to be polite, what's stopping him from going to yugi directly with hired help, at best they kidnap or steal the puzzle from yugi either knocking him out or murdering him in the process, at worst...yami mind crushes them but pegasus still ends up facing him. Like....seriously....he does need to go through the whole spiel of a tournament arc. In series like Zexal and 5ds the stakes made sense, Yusei beating jack would be a win for satellite and sweet revenge against jack for screwing him and the others over. In zexal, it made sense because the tournament had to attack all the number card wielders and such. But in duelist kingdom it just feels off.

Not really. The puzzle grants it's owner a wish and the owner was Yugi. Pegasus had to win it from him or straight up kill him in order to get it. Think of it like a genie, you can't lend a genie to fulfill the wishes of other people.

Fun manga favt, instead of those giant dueling arenas, instead it was done in giant cube shape boxes where the holograms can come out, call battle boxes. They're similar to what Zigfred was about to show off to Pegasus before Kaiba beat him to it many seasons later.

I'd like to add to the sins that Pegasus never fully explains anything besides that it takes 10 starchips to get into the finals. He never said if there was a time limit or if just the firsr X that got 10 chips would classify. And then there's the chip counting. Later, Pegasus' computer tells him Yugi was at 5 stars, which I guess is an information that could be obtained by watching Yugi's footage, but why not have an official system where players declare the amount of chips being bet? This would stop people from stealing chips from others, which does happen a lot in this tournament.

I think Weevil may have actually been playing strategically going for Yugi there at the beginning. In this kind of resource tournament, it makes sense for the top players to gun it for each other in the beginning so they won't pose a threat later on, and when you're down to the last few people in the tournament, it's better knowing there are as few top-rated players as possible. If Weevil took some time to go around taking out jobbers, that gives Yugi the chance to do the same, making it more likely neither will bet any more than a few star chips, as to not loose the tournament. This is probably why this kind of competition has never happened. Logistics be damned, it would just be boring. Realistically, the optimal thing to do would be all the top players to try to take each other out early followed by a dredge of duels where only one star chip is bet. Never mind the problems the show itself presents: that being the rampant theft, star chip hoarding, and I'd imagine a good amount of bribery.

The reason why Weevil is so confident as to duel Yugi is because he incorrectly assumes that without Exodia, Yugi's deck is weak so it will be an easy duel. To be fair, Yugi's only claim to fame at this point is beating Kaiba with Exodia, which Yugi doesn't have anymore. Was it still a major miscalculation on Weevil's part? Yes. However, it's a reasonable mistake to make given the information that he had available to him at the time.

Weevil wouldn't really have much use for most of Yugi's deck if he won but he could get some use out of it, whether this warrants risking all his star chips is debatable this seems like an unnecessary risk especially since Weevil himself threw away the Exodia cards but if Weevil won Yugi's cards could help him in some ways. Yugi has a lot of staple cards like Mirror Force and Swords of Revealing Light that could make Weevil Underwood's deck better especially Swords and Mirror Force because they could protect his Larvae Moth and Cocoon of Evolution. I think Weevil could take out one of his weak vanilla insects and benefit greatly from a Mirror Force or Swords of Revealing Light. Its possible Weevil has these cards already but because they don't see widespread use in the tournament they could be rare one of a kind cards and this could be Weevil's chance to win them. The other cards especially Yugi's monsters since none of them are insects wouldn't be helpful in Weevil's deck since it revolves around support for insects but he could sell or trade them. Taking Yugi's Deck would also weaken Yugi for the forseeable future without his deck he wouldn't be able to Duel Weevil again until he makes a new one and with all his rare cards lost to Weevil it would take Yugi a very long time to assemble a deck that could threaten Weevil's status as the top ranked Duelist if he won. Having Yugi's deck would also give Weevil insight into Yugi's strategies something Weevil could use in a future Duel with Yugi if he makes a new deck or Kaiba since Yugi is the only one to have beaten him up until this point. The deck could also be kept as a sort of trophy.

8:24 yes and no. Yes, most of the time the attacking player should not be able to hold of their attack, but choosing "take back" a declared attack is a mechanic. Which are replays. Very few cards can give the attacking monster the ability to make replays happen, like say Kashtira Fenrir, however, even if a replay would occur, mirror force would have gotten it's activation condition and if activated will not "Activate without effect"/"Fizzle" if you force a replay.

Iirc the yami yugi transformation is only visual for the audience, in universe the only changes is a personality shift and not actually yugi getting taller So that throws out the idea of yami jumping off the boat to save exodia

@@NitPik-p3r Yeah that’s why I said I believe the recap stuff the characters do (both main and extra) is a byproduct of there being only so many episodes a week. It doesn’t really make sense outside of such a format admittedly. Sure it probably sucks plot wise, but like I said, this kind of recap talk is a byproduct. While rewatching the GX dub through a specific source, I noticed that they didn’t do this sort of thing as often, and if they did recap anything, they specifically dedicated an entire episode to it as sort of a “Let’s review the latest arc before the next one” thing.

Kaiba not particepating in the tornament because he lost ONCE, isent a good reason fore why he shouldent participait, and the kid should know that, because theres no game in exsistence, where you go to the buttom of the Leader bord because you lost once, you only go Down a few Ranks, in fackt i DARE YOU to tell me about ONE game where that is the case, and your not dying as a result of loss, so at worst Kaiba should be in the same League as Weewil, Mai and Mako now, it would make WAY more sence that Kaiba isent participating because he dosent fell like it, why cant the kid Think fore himself enough to see that, also the fackt that he says Yugi is the one to beat because he beat Kaiba, makes me counvinced he has Logic thinking issues, because what in the World makes him Think that he can beat Yugi, while knowing that he beat Kaiba, that fackt alone proves he is several levels above most on the Island, he should rather avoid Yugi at all costs.
