@lamareaton God bless you for your impeccable taste! the film's climax shows where some of that $300,000.00 for musical rights went .CREAM's live version of 'Steppin' out' helps electrify the story's ending. it's used as sort of something they're playing on Charlie's car radio. I say that because on the live CREAM II record, Clapton's banter "right you are", is included, and it's in the film. I can't think of any reason why that'd be in the film(being so easy to leave out, as it's not at all part of the music), except that they wanted it to sound like a car radio. this is where we first see how brilliantly Scorsese merged visual w/ audio.

man, that was great. I wish there was more. people don't understand why this is my favorite Scorsese film. I have to remind them that Scorsese was broke, and unknown at the time, and this was a labor of love. I think it's Pauline Kael's favorite Scorsese film. even Jerry Lewis (who seldom if ever, got a good review from PK), voiced respect for her knowledge and understandidng of Cinema, overall.

the fact that it ended the way it did because they just got tired is honestly hilarious and a nice way to wrap up a directorial junior effort that only scorsese could be forgiven for

@@Krugers.Angels apologies i could have worded that better, scorsese quickly explained it in the “breaking down most iconic films” video. when filming the ending, it got to 2am in the morning and they were tired. so they filmed the abrupt ending and just immediately went home. that’s why the ending is the way it is.

Eric Clapton treated Scorsese disrespectfully regarding music rights, he allegedly took every dollar he could screw out of him, In a less than gentlemanly manner.

@@stevennieto9898 if you compare it to The Godfather 1/2 that came out around the same time- Mean Streets give us a view of gang life from the street level, whereas the godfather is very much the top down.

Mean streets was Scorcese’s first movie and it was so good. I saw it when it first came out and De Niro and fellow actors were unknown entities. I loved the filmmaking!

Jon Voight was asked to play the role of Charlie before Keitel was casted believe it or not. When Keitel was casted he wanted to swap roles with de niro but apparently Martin put his foot down and said no.

The movie is not good. Is there a plot? Its kind of there kind of not. DeNiro's character is crazy, borrowed money from his low life gangster friend. Low life ganster friend aspires to do well for his girlfriend and maybe do right by god some day. DeNiro's character is still crazy, doesn't pay, the low life gangster's boss puts a hit on both DeNiro's and low life gangster and they get shot up driving in lower Manhattan with the low life gangster's girlfriend who has been henpecking him to move to the upper west side away from the gangster activity in Little Italy. They talk about this movie as if it is something and it just isn't. Except you have to think, how the heck did Scorsese go on to make such good movies?
