My theory on why everything is outlet and electricity themed is that plugs and outlets are "connected" to each other. So its a spin on the theme of "Connections" as physical connections of outlets and the metaphorical connection between people and relationships. Potentially we will explore Mario and Luigis relationship more in this game. Edit: I also believe the superstar saga esc "Bros Attacks" are actually the default jump and hammer attacks, just upgraded to use both bros at the same time. Like how in partners in time if you have the babies with you your default attacks are stronger. Just seeing the 3d red shell makes me believe the Bros attacks will just be items like BiS beyond sadly

Technically not the first time Mario and Luigi have been co-op multiplayer. If you played Superstar Saga on the Gamecube GBA addon, you can plug in two controllers and both will control the game. One player can press A for Mario's inputs and the other can use B for Luigi's inputs.

I belive the plug characters are specifically british power outlets (type B) The Extension Corps are left to right 1. VGA video plug on the head, mouth is probably a HDMI port 2. AUX audio cord. One male end on the back of their head and 4 female ends (forehead, arm & legs) & 1 hand as exposed metal wire 3. Hardest one to guess, but i belive its a British safety plug (male end) (type B plug again). Since it seems 3 pronged. With the hair/hat acting as the grounding pin and the eyes as the (+ -) power pins. Exposee wire hands again, and i belive the legs are cut open plastic isolation. Tho their mouth does seem like the female end of a type A USB plug. And that would fit better with the theme. Also, japan used both type A (american) & type B (british) wall plugs. So thats probably why the flat pin motif is so common.

Quite frankly i don't think that a Bros attack but just a more involved version of the double hit you normaly do on a normal jump attack (like in partners in time you had to press the baby button first to do extra damage on a normal attack)
