She has always been like this...literally her whole life, she’s been a storyteller. This isn’t something new for her. She’s always used symbolism and clues in her music videos because those types of things are naturally how she sees life. I’m the same way, and if I could make music videos, I could see myself doing the same thing because I view life very much through this kind of lens and making connections etc. We are all different, and just because some people show creativity in similar ways DOESNT mean that is what inspired them. The Peter Pan aspect is also in reference to one of the other songs in the young love triangle, “Betty”. In Betty a seventeen year old guy is begging for forgiveness and looking to move on with Betty, the girl telling the perspective of cardigan. Take time to read this. The music video represents Taylor's journey not just in the music industry and not just about love, it represents her whole life, pretty much. I think the first scene in the cabin was representing Taylor's childhood and how she connected with music. The next scene with waterfalls was when she started her career, breaking records, growing and flourishing. The scene where she appeared drowning represents the time she was being cancelled by rats, thrown around by the media and how she survived it through music. And the last scene is her now, living peacefully, with contentment. And that, is such a beautiful message.
