I've said it before, Pete...but I absolutely love how you keep the content educational...and use straightforward headlines / titles.

Great vid Pete, this is a huge issue with these things, then they give blanket statements in advertising to sell to more ignorant people in this area similar to me

Great video. I have heard the term “surface energy”, but I never took the time to research it and understand its meaning. I’m like you and have gotten overwhelmed when going to the adhesives section of the typical home improvement superstore by the mind-numbing array of different adhesives. I think you’re spot on with the comment that it’s mostly different marketing pitches for the same product. I also learned something with your explanation of adhesion promoters for low surface energy materials-excellent content!

No wonder I feel super confused looking at JB weld products for projects. Thank you!

Thanks for posting this, Pete. I'm getting ready to do my first carbon fiber project. You mentioned the exact concerns going through my head in all of this. I'm gonna do a hood, and it's in some unwieldy proportions outside my safety zone. I'm trying to decide how to put the reinforcements in the bottom of the hood.

Personally, I've never had any success yet with JB Weld....whether the putty or the two part epoxy. In all applications, I found they couldn't actually withstand the pressure they were supposed to withstand. I've used West System Epoxy a few times....and have found it to be great...but, of course, it still needs to be used in the right situation. I've mostly used it in wood applications...and not metal. Was gonna use a high heat version meant for metal to repair an aluminum tranny pan flange that I had gouged when trying to separate it after having used The Right Stuff on it. I decided against it, as it seemed too risky, in regard to the amount of heat it might need to withstand. I went for the proper repair...which was to bring the tranny to a welder to repair the flange and ensure everything was straight. It worked out great, to this point.

I agree, welding it always the best repair

Hi Pete, this is a great video. There is a mistake about the solvent types: Benzene and toluene, which belong to aromatic. Methane, propane, and butane are aliphatic solvents.

@@PetesGarageI have not, but that was actually going to be my next attempt. I've tried some chat room suggestions like Superweather strip adhesive and Windshield Weld... that one might have worked but I didn't prep correctly, couldn't find my primer... so that one's probably my fault. Thanks for the reply.

White kind of epoxy can i use for metallic print and acrylic?
@PetesGarage2 жыл бұрын
Acrylic requires an adhesion promoter. Any epoxy will work fine

what is the best glue to glue neoprene rubber to aluminum?
@PetesGarage Жыл бұрын
That may be a multi-step process depending on what you're trying to accomplish. A metal etch on the aluminum and something to melt into the neoprene.

@@PetesGarage I'm replacing the tempered glass base from a TV stand for an aluminum one so making a new base for it the rubber will be in the bottom of the base a flat piece to keep it from sliding or moving to give it a grip for my stand that can swing and also because the bottom will have 2 bolts the ribber will keep the bolts from touching the wood of the stand so that the stand it flat on the stand not not leaning forward
