It also happens when someone returns back to sport as well. Injury prevention is tough.

@@MichaelBraccio i didn't warm up correctly before playing badminton and It happened to me...But I was able to play after like 20 min...but after like 3-4 hrs now I have pain...is it ok or is it looking bad

Actually, a lot of times scar tissue is created, which continues to cause pain even after “healed” and the only way to fix the pain, is to twist it again which breaks up those scare tissue and the pain stops. I’m not saying on purpose trust it, but twisting it again by mistake is the only thing that I know has fixed 4 people including myself. I would imagine a rolfer or PT may also know how to manually break the scare tissue.

I rolled my ankle playing basketball, but I play baseball so I played through it and then it just got worse and worse. It turned into a dislocation and then I strained another ligament in my foot. Another week after that I STRAIN MY GROIN. Which is unbearable, this has been a rough week 😂

I rolled my ankle yesterday and the first hour was normal cause I was active then after school finished I could barely walk. It’s the next day and I can’t even put pressure on the ankle, and it hurts to walk.

Ya the same man happened to me at college today At the first hour i felt like it was nothing, I think it is because of the hormones like adrenaline you don't feel pain directly after injury

Not that uncommon. Sometimes its not the strain on the ligament but the inflammatory response. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I rolled my ankle just like this during gymnastics and I heard multiple loud cracks..2nd day of healing now and it doesn’t hurt as much but my ankle is still pretty swollen and tender

Definitely truth to this, I had a sprain that I just continued to walk on and even twisted it a bit more. But it literally healed up with regular use. I did elevate in the evenings.

Thank you so much! I had a gnarly sprain at the beginning of the year, and I’m trying to figure out how to strengthen it. I quite literally dislocated something just by taking a step a couple weeks ago, so I think I’m due to try and build my strength back up!

Thank you! My past two ankle sprains (playing football) I fully ditched RICE and let it swell up, and on top I tried to do supported tip toes, and toe raises aka trying to keep it mobile and moving as much as I could without pain. And both times have been my fastest recovery ever, honestly within 24 hours I could walk without anyone thinking I'm injured

@@ronicjones4617 it depends how bad yours is mate, I know it's tough to admit but you have to be realistic and accept you'll probably be out for 2 weeks. In that time, try to eat well, do as much mobility with it (only when it doesn't hurt) and you should get there

I sprained my ankle a couple years back. No fracture whatsoever, but it still hurts when the weather is cold and whenever I sleep in bed. Sometimes it bothers me because the pain wakes me up. I reckon it developed some form of arthritis...

Yesterday I twisted my ankle. Today it feels normal. I twisted my ankle in the middle of recess, so i still had to walk a lot. after school, i went for a long walk with my dog. even if it hurt, it was worth it. Then i put a ice pack around my twisted ankle and the next day its 2x better. Try this, its no exercises at all. I can even jump and run.

Broke mine a few years ago playing hockey, went to the doctor , checked foot not ankle. It was bad, had about 5 years of recovery. Broken ankle no cast and just walked around and I finished the hockey season. Only have good movement back now, and most of the bones that were sticking out have reformed somewhere.

My parents don’t believe I’m hurt. I cant bear weight and Imehta happened was exactly what you showed in the video while playing football. And they expect me to go play softball tomlleow and refuse to take me to the doctor saying I’m being dramatic when i literally can’t walk without my crutches

I twisted my foot while walking and it hurt so damn much at that time. I thought it was fine tho and walked on it later. Now at might i cant even rest my legs cause it hurts constantly.....

Welp, this explains why, after spraining my ankle 4 times, over a few years, and the only imaging they've done for sprains was xrays, nothing further despite the fact my foot blew up and was all black and purple, and didn't even put in the diagnosis just looked at my bones and that was it. And the doctor recommended rest, ice, elevation, etc, and now here we are like 9 years later and I can barley stand for 1 hour of work, or it becomes to where it's progressed to where I can't stand on it correctly for a day and a half after a work day. Been through extremely painful therapy, which didn't work, then on top of that, over the counter pain meds then prescribed stronger steroids and pain killer drugs, and nothing has really done anything to minimize the pain. Then now I'm being told to get epidurals for all this pain along with other pain, after being told my a surgeon that everything looks too damaged to touch so. 😂😁 This is what happens when people hire people that don't know what they're doing.

What about connective tissue after surgery. Physical therapy swelling it up

You do have to ice it! That reduces the swelling! My dad is firefighter paramedic

There’s no research to support ice for swelling, pain, or improving function. That’s why the treatment guidelines no longer recommend it.

I only have pain in the medial area of my ankle and have been keeping it compressed and icing it. I can walk just fine but I tried to do the calf raise and there was a lot of pain on the inside medial joint what can I do to stop the pain? Should I keep doing these exercises?

I usually just moan in pain for two minutes and then walk it off. I pay attention to it for too long and i loose the ability to walk properly for to days

Same here .It's looks like we have either grade 2 or 3 level sprain. Have a speedy recovery tho :)

If it's painful and swelling, ice it, especially if the injury is new. At least it will numb the pain somewhat, evidence or no.

You can ice it if you want to. But I’d rather focus on more effective approaches.

My ankle sprain I had before was brutal. I was doing a soccer trick with a basketball where u jump and kick the ball with the side of one leg and the ball goes through the other leg. I was on my driveway and misjudged the slope on the driveway and landed at the side of the ball causing the ankle to roll very harshly. The worst part was my right ankle took the entire impact! I didn’t even fall down and distribute my momentum. If I were to fall immediately after, it would have been distributed better to other parts of the body. So, no fracture but i got a brutal sprain. It’s healed now but I still feel some tingles to this day… prob cause I didn’t do physiotherapy that well

@@MichaelBraccio hm it was basically the “Ronaldo chop”, but I jumped a little higher when I was kicking the ball from right foot through my legs to the left foot. You can search that move up. It’s nothing complicated, just messed it up.

There's a lot of factors to consider, so it's hard to say. The general outlook of ankle sprains is good, but the timeline varies.

I was playing basketball in school so, when I was putting the ball in the basket my ankle twisted but I didnt focus on it and again started playing🏃‍♀️ but after returing home my ankleache started and it took 5 to 6 days to get relief after 2week the same ankle got rolled as Yesterday I was playing pakdam-pakdai🏃‍♀️🏃 the same ankle got sprained and at that moment I was laughing like an idiot about 2-3 minutes but,after returing home I was'nt able to walk properly

A couple days ago I was sprinting in 2” boots bc I didn’t want to miss my Uber driver and twisted my ankle 💀 Heard a pop sound, followed by an American lady asking if I was okay, I got up right away and limped away to my Uber bc I couldn’t afford a trip to the clinic in the US plus I had a concert to go to in a few hours, rocked on tho 🤘

What does it mean if you can only walk on the ball of your foot? Can't rotate, go side to side, only move up and down a tiny bit. Very very tight feeling

Could be many things, especially since re-injury after an ankle sprain is common. Most of the time a good rehab program can be helpful in reducing the risk of future injury.

According to what an aunt who was a nurse told me, its because sprains damage the ligaments in the ankle and once those are damaged they don't go back to how they were before a sprain. Its like over stretching a rubber band, once it's lost its elasticity, it doesn't hold things together as well and its easier to stretch or even break it.

I miss stepped at practice two days ago and it just decently after but the next day it was swollen and in pain at certain ranges but the next day the sharp pain went away the swelling came down and i can squat. It’s just the jumping part i’m tryna get back to in 4 days.

I was playing basketball ball and was taking a layup and on the last step I landed on somones foot, and it was twisted, INITIALLY I was able to move i even went back home cycling but now all those areas which you pointed out are in pain. Is it a fracture ? Will i be able to play again?

while going to school , i fell on the stairs (i missed 2 stairs ) and i fell , it was sooo bad but the pain went away so i thought that i would just go to school and i walked on it , it didn't hurt that bad at first but the pain started growing , and when i came back home i couldn't walk ,my ankle hurts so bad right now and it's swollen so , my questions are : for how long should i rest ? is it really bad ? and when can i walk ? thank you if you could reply please do it asap thank you💜

Today i fell on the stairs since i skipped a step but suddenly i fell and my ankle started hurting. I also couldn't believe i fell after falling and kinda thought it was a dream but i knew it wasn't. This is my first time hurting myself besides usual pain from normal falling in the past. Any update about ur ankle?

@@jonginslaceglove3651 and the reason was because i wanted to see the sunrise while walking to school 💀 ( i know such a dumbass ) so it was dark and the first reflex was sceam ''mOoOOM ????'' but no one responded and i stayed maybe 5 minutes zoning out ...😅now it's ok its a tiny bit swollen and if you kick me there it hurts just a little bit but it's ok . thanks for asking , hope you're doing ok too

Will doing these help prevent sprains? Because I've sprained my left anke four times and was wondering if exercising the ligaments would help me be less prone to tearing them again.

Ligaments themselves have limited ability to get stronger. But it would help strengthen the muscles and improve motor control.

I slipped and twisted my ankle. The physiotherapist said i sprained my ankle after seeing the swelling and told me to use band-aid support for a week. I can't even stand on my feet because of the pain 🙂

Sprained my ankle 😊 in the middle of football game still played the Full game then after sleeping when i wake up started feeling pain but surprisingly if i keep my leg staright its pains a lot less so i hangup with my friends that day and also the next day and today is the day i am screaming in pain fr ceo of wrong decision fr

Ice helps reduce pain and swelling, its good to give yourself relief so I dont think you can say its not important

The research unfortunately has found that it isn’t helpful for pain, swelling, or function. If there’s more efficient approaches, it’s better to use those.

I had a really bad inversion sprain over 5 months ago now, my ankle looked like there was a golf ball inside of it, initial X-ray didn’t reveal anything… but now I’m getting pain on the INSIDE of my ankle from simple treadmill running and I can’t take more than 5-10 minutes of it. Any idea why?

So many different things can be going on. The best path is to get another evaluation to see how the ankle is moving and if you need anything else.

Sorry for the delay! Generally once per day is the recommendation for loading. But it depends on the tolerance to load.

Whenever I try any of these movements like drawing letters half way doing the A I just get really bad pain and it hasn’t gone down and it’s been a day I know it takes time but I don’t think it should be that sensitive to movements

Difficult to say. The sensitivity right after an injury can be high so it might not tolerate much movement initially.

Usually it’s best to get it checked out to know for sure. But the Ottawa rules are tenderness plus inability to bear weight.

The anterior talofibular ligament is at the front ankle, so I'm not sure if that's the one that you are referring to.

It’s difficult to say without doing an examination. So it’s probably best to have a doctor that can take a full history and do an exam on you to figure out what the best course of care for you is.

i had a kickboxing fight yesterday and in the first 14sec i had a bad fall but i kept going for 3 min and it really hurt at night when i was resting today i can walk a little but it really hurts . should i do the exercises and try to move or rest first ? and when does the swelling go away?

The ankle guidelines recommend movement as tolerated. But there are a lot of factors to consider when starting rehab after an ankle sprain.

It’s difficult to say just based on that information. Having someone evaluate the ankle would give you a much better idea if it’s a sprain or a fracture.

Not necessarily. There are 4 regions that are typically looked at plus the ability to walk to see if we need an X-ray. But sometimes there are different presentations as well that may warrant an X-ray.

i rolled my ankle yesterday but it’s not swollen i can’t move it i can’t put pressure on it and i can’t walk with it but i had a left over boot from where i had tendonitis so i used it but my mom won’t let me go to the dr bc she is not spending 500 dollars for then to js say rap it and ice it

Depends on the severity. But usually ankle sprains heal somewhere in the 4-8 week range.

The ligaments on the inside part of the ankle are much stronger. The Ottawa ankle rules can still be used to see if an X-ray is needed. And the rehab is somewhat similar if it's just a sprain of the deltoid ligaments.
