@sethwilson32922 жыл бұрын
@@RedRumble14 it depends, do you have any bruising? I sprained mines 5 weeks ago and its starting to get completely healed, if theres bruising then you will probably have to wait around 3-5 weeks probably, if your playing a sport just dont play on it at all, I made that mistake thinking it was fine around after 1 week and now Im waiting longer. Just give it time and dont play on it until it starts feeling way better and theres no pain. Youll have to start rehab soon doing physical therapy which is what I did everyday after around 3 weeks which helped strengthen it. Also Icing is good for around a week until swelling goes down after that let it be, inflammation is apart of the healing process and the swelling does eventually go down even without ice. Icing delays healing but does help swelling.
@RedRumble142 жыл бұрын
@@sethwilson3292 thanks for a solid reply! I’ve got some light strain, no bruises or bloody marks, just swelling which is slowly going away now in day 3. They tapped my ankle as well to stabilise it and reduce swelling. I’ve already done 3 physiotherapy. As I understand, it’s vital not to go back into sports too soon not to make it worse and recover to the fullest. I don’t do sport tho, but had a plan of running in about 3 weeks from now, hopefully il be fine by that that and by Tuesday they will take the tape off and I ll be able to walk without limping. Your injury seems as a more serious one, hope u recover soon!

@markb203 жыл бұрын
Anytime I see these serious ankle sprains, I always cringe, as I suffered a severe grade 3 ankle sprain some years ago. Like Barkley it was to my left ankle with my foot pointed down, but I was running down stairs at full speed (the last part of my 5 mile run that night) and my left foot hit the last stair on it's edge. I heard a loud "crack". I found out later it was not a bone breaking, but a ligament ripping apart. In all, I had torn two lower ligaments and chipped a bone in the same area. And as bad as Barkley's swelling was, my left ankle was much worse. To this day I can't believe how fast my ankle blew up, like a balloon. As far as treatment, they suggested surgery to remove the bone chips, and a hard cast for the torn ligaments. With the surgery, hard cast, and months of physical therapy, it took about 6 months to start getting back to normal.

I had to hop all the way home from the gym on one foot when I was 16 when I turned my ankle just like that. It swells like crazy and is mighty painful, but it heals up nicely. Nothing like a high sprain, where the pain lingers for months. After several sprains, I went high top sneakers the rest of my playing days. Over 30 yrs of main court basketball, I probably had about a dozen sprained ankles. Thank God I never had any problems with my knees, but my left ankle clicks sometimes when I walk. It doesn't hurt, but you get a lot of free sympathy from people when they hear it. Achilles rupture is the worst. Ended my playing days and had me on crutches for 3 months and nearly put me in the poor house. Thank God for golf, because not being able to play anymore was devastating psychologically.

I broke my foot in a similar way last year. Not stepping on a foot while running but I rolled my ankle into a similar position. I was carrying a heavy box and rolled it while stepping down a half step to my patio. I got an avulsion fracture where the tendon on the outside of my ankle pulled on my 5th metatarsal with enough force to break about 2 cm of the end of the bone off. I can tell you it was tough to heal, but luckily I didn't need surgery. Apparently the blood flow to that bone is a major concern and that can effect the healing process. If you don't have enough blood flow the bone fragments wont reattach to each other sturdily enough or your bones could sort of waste/dissolve away because they die. I was in a cast/boot for 2 months (non weight bearing). And then slowly weaned off on a walking boot for 4 weeks. I would wear for first week during the day (but was able to sleep with it off thank god) and then over successive weeks I wore it less and less hours of the day. After that was physical therapy once a week for 3 months. If you've never had an injury like that before it's hard to prepare for what it does to you mentally. The soreness related to the injury and healing was expected but I found the balance exercises the most difficult. It took me way longer to trust my foot than I could have expected. Even though I had put more force through my foot in other exercises and knew it was structurally sound, I had trouble committing to exercises where I would lean laterally over the outside arch of my foot. That hesitancy lasted way past physical therapy and stuck with me until about 9 months after the injury. I feel normal now but what I experienced over the healing process was just a gradual decline of fear/ hesitancy even though logically I knew that I was physically fine. I know that part was long winded but it does have a point. I will be curious to see how Saquon recovers from this injury. He will be putting way more force and impact on that joint than I ever did in PT and need to trust his body to do things that I could never dream of. How quick can he physically get back to 100%? Will he ever make a full mental recovery especially with his run game relying so much on elusiveness and lateral movement?

I'll be straight up with you. I had this exact same thing happen to me 3 times last year. Twice they said to me it was broken, which it ended up being only a sprain both times. Learned a lot about these things from you and myself. They took for me about a week to two weeks to be way less painful and about 3-5 to get back to running like healthy. The other one I was able to run the day after even tho it swelled up a lot like that. He'll probably be out for 3-5 weeks just because of his bad bad history

I literally just did this to my right ankle doing jiujitsu two weeks ago. I was able to walk home with minor pain, but when I woke up my foot was hella swollen and I could put a shoe on or walk. I had to use crutches for like two days. Still have a little pain but I’m all good now

Hey Doc, are osteochondral lesions of the talus a concern with this type of injury? How would those manifest and could you tell immediately if those were present?
@dehronsmith17773 жыл бұрын
It is possible because the bones do come into contact with force. It would manifest as the patient feeling a physical block as they attempt any range of motion. If you passively moved the ankle you could feel a gritty or crepitus.

can you talk about the nebraska player that blew out his knee on the kickoff

Ouch this one is painful to look at. Hope Barkley heals up quickly. Any chance you could do a video explaining what a throat contusion is? Especially considering Joe Burrows precautionary hospital visit as well as new reports stating he's now on voice rest. Is this an injury that may linger for Burrow throughout the season?

I had this exact same thing happen to me while playing volleyball. I jumped and landed on someone else's foot just like what happened on Barkley's foot. It hurt so bad and swelled up very bad and really fast

I sprained my left ankle in a similar way back in the first weekend of June ‘21 and still on October 11 have swelling and some occasional discomfort. A few weeks ago I went and got some direct joint injections using stem cells and the swelling reduced by about 90% in about 24 hrs. A week later I tried to do some light jogging and it swelled right back up. I’m thinking I have some tissue damage in the ankle that hasn’t healed properly but my understanding is that there isn’t much that can be done to it anyway

Would a brace have stopped or at least mitigated the damage? I know that braces suck but they always made me feel better having one on than not.

Something exactly like this happened in my high school 10 years ago. I jumped really high for a rebound in basketball, landed completely on someone's ankle and I normally applied a lot of force when landing (I was young I know). Ankle swelled slightly bigger than this and man, that was the most pain I've been in my life. 4-6 months on crutches, couldn't put any weight on it, and missed half my grade 9 classes. Lost a bunch of mobility to this day on that same ankle, sucks badly

@Taymilli _ doctor told me I was very lucky I didn't tear apart the ligament in my foot, it was a severe sprain that almost needed surgical repair
