I haven't played Elite for more than an hour or two here or there since before Horizons came out. Coming back to the game for Odyssey and I have to say, I love your videos. You have a way of explaining things that I find to be engaging and informative, seemingly a rarity for videos about Elite. You've earned my subscription, keep doing what you're doing and thank you for what you've done so far.

Mining is how I got my fleet carrier. I then discovered that I could combine Exploring, Bio Scanning, and Mining into long cruises far outside the bubble. Whenever I jump into a new system I scan all the bodies, and if they have Biologics I land scan all of those. Water worlds, ammonia worlds terraformable worlds, and ELWs all get surface scanned. If there are ringed planets, they all get surface scanned and I note if there are hotspots, and if there are I will mine them for a while, usually just one full load in my Python. Then move to another system. Being able to store all those minerals on the fleet carrier means I can just keep on exploring and not have to sell my load first. Once in a while I will find a virgin planetary ring with dozens of hot spots, often with three, four or five different minerals. These planets get a bookmark, and often a number of cargo holds full of mined minerals. When I do come back to the bubble, I can be very picky about where and when to sell my minerals for the best prices.

OK, this is an awesome idea. I'm definitely going to do this. Hmm, I might just make a video out of this. If I do, I'll call it "The Mike Wilson".

Great guide, covers pretty much the entire thing, wish I saw it a week ago before learning it "on the job", but my friend taught me well... Except for nearly blowing myself up, once. One extra thing! If you are not sure about the shape of an asteroid and don't want to waste limpets, you can verify that an asteroid has a core by visually spotting the fissures themselves! They stand out quite a bit if you know what you are looking for.

I made my first 10 bil back before they nerfed ltd lazer mining, also there was a triple hotspot in borann... who remembers that?
@prisonerofthehighway10592 ай бұрын
Yeah the painite rush. Wasn’t there a triple LTD rush before that? That’s the worst part about the hotspot nerf. There were always FCs in the big mining systems selling fuel, limpets and buying minerals.
@legitbeans90782 ай бұрын
@@prisonerofthehighway1059 There was a triple LTD hotspot in Borann. Id check EDDB every few hours and at times there was a station that would do like 450k-550k per tonne and I'd go get a full annaconda worth and make half a bil in like 3 hours of casual lazer mining... Was unreal
@legitbeans90782 ай бұрын
This was like 2019 era tho. I made billions then life got in the way I took a 4 year break from it and have been on and off since. Mostly on recently though :) o7

@@legitbeans9078 You’re bringing back memories lol. FDEV really broke the game for about 6 months lol. They broke the painite rush, then everybody started chasing “The Egg” and the nerf for that broke the pulse scanner and you had to fly backwards in free cam to go core mining lol. My joystick broke about that time and I decided not to replace it because the game was such a mess. I’ve been vicariously enjoying the Thargoid war and with the new engineering rework, I think I’m ready to come back as well. o7 Commander. See you in the black.
@Draw2quitАй бұрын
Anyone remember The Egg. It was an asteroid with an obscene amount of low temperature diamonds. You had to use the sub surface missiles to get to them but you could leave the ring and return and the deposits would return. I used to be able to drop in and find it within a minute. I could fill my Anaconda's 240 ton capacity in around an hour and they would sell for over amillion a ton. Only way I could buy my fleet carrier.

to get to the far away plants you could upgrade to the new (SCO) frame shift drives

BTW my fave Core miner is the Clipper. Convergence isn't great but it's manoeuvrable and has lots of cargo space.
@Mile13Gaming2 ай бұрын
You know, I actually have a Clipper, and hardly ever use it. I tried it for laser mining, but liked the Krait and Python better. But core mining might be a great use for it!

Absolutely. Maybe I'll do a video on different ships for laser mining. Wouldn't mind trying a few more out myself.

Distance from primary star is not much of a factor anymore with the advent of SCO FSDs. You can mine in smaller ships but you are limiting the amount of whatever you are mining you can collect at one time.
@Mile13GamingАй бұрын
Good callout. SCO has been a game-changer. Now if I can just keep from overshooting my target half the time, LOL.
