Easiest way to maximize your tailor shop when farming cotton, is to get some sheep...just enough to keep the tailor shop at max productivity. By keeping your sheep pen not full, and just the right amount, you can reap the rewards of selling excess sheep when they reproduce.

I’m guessing there’s no crop destruction on the harvested plants because they’re no longer concidered a crop. It wouldn’t matter if they were destroyed except for possibly less mulch to return to the ground

I did A LOT a cotton in FS19. I'm not saying this is why, because it doesn't make a ton of sense in the real world, but there was a bug in FS19 with cotton. If you had a cotton field and replanted it with another cotton crop using a machine capable of planting a field without cultivation (a direct drill but for a planter).. anywhere you destroyed the crop with machines in the field it would not replant without a cultivation. So you would have a freshly grown field with pre-destructed crops where you previously drove during the harvest last season. For that alone, I like the no destruction.

I found this out about overloading the spinnery when you own it when I was field flipping and harvested 3 large cotton fields at once, took me 3 years to drop it all off at the spinnery :-D Then I found out that even if I don't own it that limit still applied ... Lesson learned the hard way, but learned well !

The way the base game is implemented is not nearly a sophisticated as 19 with seasons. It works like the base game did in all the previous versions, hit grass with a tedder to turn it into hay instantly, and if you leave grass on the field it will remain grass indefinitely regardless of what the weather does. The one change they did make is they gave silage bales a timer for fermenting instead of making them instant, but hay is still an instant transformation.

I have thought about doing a cotton/wool focused production play through. Watching this is might be good to keep 1 spinnery full of cotton, then one full of wool. The only down side I can see is the production buildings seem to almost print money, taking away some of the progression of the game, where you start small and slowly expand. Also after watching this, it may always be best to build your own production buildings so you don't lose the sell point. It looks like they hold about one year worth of product, so if you had 2 cotton fields about that size, you would want to fill your spinnery and sell the rest, so it would be good not to lose those sell points. Also if you buy your own sale point, not a production, can you still sell to it? Do you get any extra, or is it just a way to add a sell point to the map?

We have one going right now, 3 large sheep pens, 2 spinnerys, and 1 tailor. We could use another tailor if we wanted to maximize profits, but one keeps up not too bad. We are now alternating between cotton and sugar beets every year since cotton takes so long to process

I believe you can have both cotton and wool going in to a single spinnery which would increase production. SOmeone please correct me if I am wrong but that does work with other production buildings with multiple inputs like that.
@colmortimer1066

@@myrany8407 In Farmer Klein's other production videos he concluded that when you add more production it splits the time up, so you should use half the Cotton, and half the wool, if you had both running than if you had just one working. Of you would only benefit if you had small amounts of each. You can see this in his Greenhouse video in action, it was in version 1.0, I believe, so it could have changed since then, but it makes sense that if a factory produces fabric from one source only, you would double the output than from using 2 sources, as you would scale up production to just the one product, and not have half your factory doing nothing while you wait for a missing product.

This is the new normal behavior. :( Any sell point you can buy has a max input capacity and uses up the product you dump there even if you do not own it at the normal production rate as such you can overwhelm the sell point with product. That contract would then be stuck unti the spinnery consumed all of the bales in the trigger to the point you can complete the contract.

Every production facility is great, if you can maximize all inputs and keep them all running year round. Buying a spinnery and a tailor shop, even though clothes are insanely valuable per liter, however having a small field with limited crops, is not a wise business decision. There is a right time to buy productions, and definitely a wrong time.
@dansiegel995
@dansiegel995 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if they fixed this in 1.2 or not, but on 1.1.0.0 for sure not, you would drop a cotton bale at the spinnery when the spinnery was full, and the bale would not fully sell. However, the bale would SLOWLY disappear, and you would get like $2/minute as it process/sold you the last bale. However, the game commits the ENTIRE bale to be sold...you can move it, but can't do anything with it, nor sell it anywhere else. And the bad part, is that as it continues to sell that bale very very slowly, the price falls, and you are paid the lower price, the not the original price when you dropped it off. If they fixed it right, it would not accept the bale at all, if the entire bale could not be accepted/processed with its current capacity. Similar issue in the FS22 BGA - FS19 had the same exact problem IIRC, but the BGA could process MUCH MUCH faster than it does in FS22....yet another reason to rotate and diversify crops.

How do I empty harvest it’s still half full but I can’t finish the job?
@dansiegel995
@dansiegel995 3 жыл бұрын
The change in crop destruction to harvested cotton I think was due to mulching. If you drive over the plants, you would foul the state up for mulching. So the way it is now, it doesn't matter, and mulching will be fine. Maybe in PF, IF they add compaction, dropping off the field would be preferred and advantageous. Without compaction and off-field bale dropping being relevant, I still continue to not understand why the JD Cotton Harvester is so expensive. Yes, you save a small amount of time by not stopping, but is that worth $450k? Heck, with small bales, it costs you more in transport, as the stock cotton trailer carries 2 bales, round (20k of cotton) or square(40k of cotton). To improve round bale transport efficiency, still lower than square bale transport efficiency, you have to buy the much more expensive 3 round bale trailer. Now if I lost money due to field compaction issues from driving trailers and tractors and semi trucks on the field to pickup 20k square bales, then the JD Harvester may indeed be worth the cost, in the long run.

I have not used a cotton harvester in a very long time but I thought the case harvester let you unload a partial bale while the JD round bale harvester didn't but that might not be correct. Great observation about Spinnery being slow and a small capacity - IIRC, a few other productions facilities have the same behavior (1MW BGA comes to mind with only 300k silage)...opposite of the Grain mill, which can handle +40 hectares of grain crops and operate year round. FYI, there is always 1 other cotton buyer besides the spinnery, but losing 1 sell point definitely hurts. Limited productions processing capability is also a VERY good reason to rotate crops. Your Harvester does get older and less valuable for trade in, but you put no hours on it and most likely would never sell it anyways, until its hours get very high and unviable to maintain, requiring a replacement

@@dansiegel995 clothing sells for x6.xx base cotton and/or wool, or X3 fabric. I’d say that’s a good incentive. I simply place the excess cotton bales over the drop point and it continually restocks (45k L max capacity). Investment:60k per spinnery, 100k per tailor shop. Clothing sells at approx 24k per pallet. ROI doesn’t take long and you only need about 75-100 acres to produce enough cotton to last x2 spinnery until next harvest. Additionally, if you own sheep, you can keep spinnery busy with wool in the off months to fill gaps. Note: maintenance isn’t really much of an issue if you transport x2 harvesters on the low loader.

base game is 59 or 60 productions and the mod will up to 120 for PC players. Sure if you want to add more production but its a slower return on investment vs just dumping the left over cotton in a sell point trigger. From the video it would take over 10 months to process the 31K of cotton in the spinnery vs the growth cycle of 8 months on a new planting so if you replanted cotton same month as harvest your crop would be ready in 8 months while the spinnery is still working through what you brought in last time. Case calls the square "bale's" modules because before Case and JD made "all in one units" the cotton pickers only picked cotton it didn't pack it into bales. You'd have a tractor parked on the side of the field hooked to a "module builder" that the picker would unload loose cotton into and the module builder packed the cotton. So the module builder packed the cotton into a "module." Case's picker makes a module that's roughly the same hight and width of a normal module, but half the length, so they called it a module, the same as the previous way of doing it.

Sell the bales at a sell point that takes cotton or if you own the spinnery use it to produce fabric.

Cotton does not regrow. That simple. The only crops that regrow are grass, poplar and sugarcane, grapes and olives.

i have no idea how you move the square bales into the trailer because i just cant align it and everytime i try to reverse the trailer just twists into a spiral. Literally terrible game design
@FarmerKlein
@FarmerKlein 4 ай бұрын
I don't know what advice to give you related to backing a trailer other than if you have issues with it jack knifing then try making smaller steering inputs. Its simulating the way these trailers are loaded IRL by reversing the trailer to grab the edge of the cotton module and pull it into the trailer and to do that you have to be somewhat lined up.

Thanks Farmer Klein for the great videos. I own FS 22 but I can't believe giants with over a decade of experience could produce this game with so many faults in it, looks like they sent most of time doing graphic and sound work than making a better game

when you harvest it why is there a ded plant after and how do you get it away
@FarmerKlein
@FarmerKlein 2 жыл бұрын
Your picking the cotton off the plant your not cutting or pulling the old plant out of the ground. Simply do your field work post harvest to plow or cultivate the residual into the ground.

Are you trying to sell them at a production point? There was a time but I thought they fixed it that you could only sell up to the point the production filled up even if you did not own it. caused problems with cotton given the size of the modules. I do not work with cotton on a regular basis myself but I recall this early on.
