I decided to buy an electric bike for the same reasons. I also have lung problems that make riding an ordinary bike very difficult. I chose a Carrera Crosscity from Halfords. It cost £1000 and has a 30 mile range. I have tested it and it does actually have that range. It's a folding bike. I was not sure about spending money on an electric bike but have had it 4 months and been very happy with it and do about 400-450 miles a month on it.

The main issue I think is the security- insurance is one thing but dependent on where you lock it up and what locks. Another big issue and more important also issue of where you ride it. Riding on roads and sharing it with drivers. I say most are considerate where I live but there are a few who just aren’t and are just bullies on the road who won’t give you the room when they overtake. There are few segregated cycle lanes where I live. That’s not mentioning the state of roads in the UK with potholes likely going to damage tyres and suspension.

I bought a noname folding Ebike from China , hydraulic brakes , 750 watt hub motor will do 55 kph if you’re crazy enough to use the throttle instead of the PA level 5. Love riding in the summer. , fall and spring but at -30C not for winter use at my age 64 . Price only $1600 CDN , but have seen bikes here that cause $18000 CDN ! Crazy considering theft issues . Cheers 😅

Great video for newbies 👍🏻, but……..Somewhat amazed that most the riders in this video are not wearing a helmet. If you’ve ever known anyone who’s suffered a head injury or died from cycling, you’d be wearing the best one you can afford. How much is your bike worth? How much is your life worth?

Great video and tips! I recently discovered a new project called freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike, and it seems to have some outstanding features. One of the most impressive aspects is the indoor recharge feature, where you can charge the bike while using it indoors. It's a great way to maximize the bike's usage and convenience. I can't wait to try it out and experience the exhilarating speed and power of the Morph eBike myself. Thanks for sharing this informative video!

Hmm, you do have to replace the batteries eventually, sometimes every two years, and they cost a minimum of £200 for a cheap brand. Plus lithium batteries are difficult to recycle. The most eco friendly bike is a push bike.

Really enjoyed watching that i currently ride a motorcycle for my daily 36 mile round trip from Kent to Regent st but Lately i have thought about ditching the petrol for an E-bike and although i watch reviews im still Not sure what BIKE I SHOULD GET this would be an all weather bike ride with some fairly steep hills although i could revise my journey a little so my motorcycle is probably worth a comfortable £2000 so i guess that's my budget Any strong contenders in your opinion Even second hand ????

I'm looking at this video considering buying an e-bike too. Remember, an e-bike only has a maximum assisted speed of 25km/h or 15mph. Above that the motor cuts out. If you want to go faster than that you will have to physically pedal faster or freewheeling downhill. With a lot of steep hills you would have to be using the highest assist level on those hills which will eat up a lot of battery range. A mid level assist on the flat with pedalling will keep you at 15mph fairly easily. On a bike with a built-in battery in the down tube you will certainly need to fully recharge it again when you get to work after those hills. You would need a bike with a much bigger removable battery. More money too. It won't get you there any faster but it could get you home again without charging. And an 18 mile commute on an e-bike averaging 15mph will take approximately 1 hour and 12 minutes. Perhaps you could make up some time on the downhills? The main question for you is, can you afford the extra time to commute by e-bike? If you can and you are sure you will enjoy the slower and quieter experience of pedalling an assisted bicycle then absolutely go for it. Although another thing to consider..... A bicycle whether e or otherwise is more dangerous than a motorbike on open roads with traffic. And also in bad or icy/snowy weather. Especially on steep hills I would imagine. Good luck with your decision. 👍

@@tconnolly9820 I did get my commute bike and rode my first 18 mile on Friday and I really enjoy the experience. Switch up to high power on hills and low to zero power on the flat road so I really conserved the battery. I think one charge every 35 mile and I did it in 1 hour 10 and if the weather is really bad it’s motorcycle ride
@tconnolly9820

@@chris53small Ahhhh! You kept the petrol burner!!!!👍 Congratulations on your new ride and I hope you have many thousands of safe miles on it. I have a diesel car myself which I'm not going to part with but I would like to ride 13 miles each way to and from work with mostly moderate hills as often as possible. I can do it in 50 minutes or so on an ordinary hybrid in ideal conditions but a more relaxed pace would be an hour. But with strong headwind and rain it can make it an extra 20 minutes hard slog. And at either end of a physically draining 13 hour night shift, I'm not up to that kind of additional physical stress in my mid fifties anymore. I can drive it in 20 minutes by car but an e-bike should do it in about 40 or less because I will be getting up to 30mph plus on the downhills. If I may be so bold to ask, which bike did you get? I'm really interested! I'm going to take advantage of the bike to work scheme subsidy which will take a large chunk out of the price of whichever bike I settle on. Because I'm 6'7" the majority of manufacturer's don't make e-bike's in a large enough frame size for me so my choices will be more limited and disproportionately towards the established premium brands which make larger frame sizes.

@@tconnolly9820 Sorry about the very late reply So i Purchased a Volt London hybrid type bike and collected from London bridge 16/9/22 it cost a fairly hefty £2200 But i do believe its a decent Quality bike. They come in one frame size 19 inch and im 5 ft 9 so plenty of room. My aim was to use as little assist as possible except on steeper incline so i could Pass all the Hard core cyclists with a smugness expression on my face as the would return the favor on the straits because my bike is single speed. Today is my first return trip commute but Friday i rode 18 miles and today 16 miles so 34 miles of mixed Gradient on Terrible bumpy London roads and i used about Half battery life. I am happy enough

I’m looking at a folding e-bike through peddle my wheels hire scheme. Only options are Raleigh Stow E Way which I see you recommend in the price range, or the Forme Buxton Ltd electric folder. I live in a hilly part of north London and will be mainly using the bike for leisure although I may also use for commuting approx 7.5 miles each way, pretty steep uphill part of way home. Which is the better of these two, or are they much the same? Thanks

@VivieLittleGhost
@VivieLittleGhost 2 жыл бұрын
Pedal assisted bike is more fragile than motor-wheel bike. Because the inconstant force applied on the pedals. That is amortized by the back wheel on motor wheel. It's also rougher on chain than motor wheel.

Well in a way DVLA removing my car license did me a favour because now I am considering a decent e-bike as my alternative to a car, which admittedly I miss greatly but if I could find a suitably covered in pedal/e-bike alternative I'd jump on it. And never look back, as you state no insurance, no MOT's, no real restrictions, so what is there not to like apart from belligerent vehicle drivers who see the roads for their means and bikes are a hindrance.

All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.

dalton.I make no bones about the fact that my purchase of an e-assist kit for my road bike had nothing to do with being eco friendly. There is no climate crisis anyway, in my opinion. No, I got it purely because my 90 year old legs finally conceded that the hills around where I live were getting a bit too much, and my rides were becoming very restricted, and certainly less appealing. I'm riding more often now, and I'm back out in my old terrain again. Purchase vindicated.

@@vincekerrigan8300 It doesn't matter what your 'opinion' is about the climate crisis, there is an almost total scientific consensus on the issue. You might as well say that, in your opinion, you are a purple flying elephant. The facts say otherwise

@@kestermuller9595 No! It is just like the Covid issue. Only one strand of the 'science' is allowed to be articulated, and all else is suppressed. There is a mass of reputable opposing scientific opinion out there, if you are open minded enough to look for it. All the so-called evidence is cherry picked and based on the lowest grade of scientific data - modelling, which is ALWAYS wildly inaccurate. They consistently confuse climate with weather, whicn leads to ludicrous assumptions. None - not ONE - of the climate change predictions of apocalyptic catastrophies, in about forty years, has come to pass. The idea that we can replace fossil fuels in less than seveal generations is nothing short of stupid.
