Federal reserve notes can’t be redeemed in gold, silver, or any other commodity, so the federal reserve in 1933 pushed forward the Gold Reserve Act robbing the population of what little wealth they had left during the height of the Great Depression. In other words the dollar bill only has value because of the public’s consumption rates there is no measure of wealth in dollar bills.

Exactly! With money it’s easy to illegally make fakes, with gold you can’t fake it ( and if one does then it’s easy to know if it’s fake or not), you can’t make more of it there’s only a finite amount of it in this world and one day we will run out of it. The value of gold has never crashed and never will because of its rarity and industrial use etc. With Bitcoin as soon as the internet shuts off you have no access to it or no way to use it lol. Physical gold you’ll always have with or without electricity and internet. *Correct me if I’m wrong but Im not sure if you can use Bitcoin if stored in an offline crypto wallet*

Ehhh. I mean in some cases gold is more useful in that sense in others not so much. If you get your wallet stollen you might lose that bling too. With bitcoin all you need is to have a password memorized. Granted depending on where you are it might be easier to pawn some gold than sell bitcoin. I don't think there is a clear answer on which is better to hold wealth in. They both have uses and disadvantages. The downside of both of course is the environmental costs and lack of productive activity.

@@raikou25 You can use bitcoin offline but only in a limited way(you can only transfer a wallet offline you cant move money between wallets. Let me know if you are interested in details.). And bitcoin as a whole is reliant on the internet. I should say though that the bitcoin network if it had to could run through the tor network. So it would be fairly difficult(although probably not impossible) to shut down without substantially degrading the internet generally even if outlawed.

2% sounds like an arbitrary allocation. The actual amount of gold you need will be an individual decision, and would obviously depend on how large one's portfolio was and what income it normally generates. It also depends on how many streams of income you rely on.

Even if you don't believe that mediums of exchange and stores of value can have value just based on those properties bitcoin does have other properties. Holding Bitcoin entitles you to a portion of the verifiable computing power that the bitcoin network can run. In terms of raw computation this is very very limited. The network can only compute some limited things unlike say the etherium network and its efficiency is laughably bad. But it is verifiable computing which increases its value over something like just buying a server. Granted if you look at people actually using in the network in this way it would probably value bitcoin at only like 1/1000 of its current value. While something more like maybe 1/5 of golds value is tied to real world applications.

First thing, gold is not an investment at all, anyone saying that gold is an investment is an ignorant idiot. The same as your money in your wallet is not an investment. The gold would be an investment if you actually used it for making jewellery, electronics etc. If you just to buy it for the sake of having it, it is a way of SAVING money. It is protection. It is hedge, it is something that has worked for thousands of years. Prices in gold decrease. Prices in fiat increase. You choose what you save.

I think the point of it was that gold has been money for thousands of years. It is an actual thing that you can own. The price/value fluctuates but because its an actual real stuff it has more value than paper money which usually comes with a promise from a government to honour it at a certain price. Those promises are/were backed by the actual gold. I'm curious about Crypto's but even though they're allegedly limited, what actual value is there? They have zero industrial use unlike gold and they're not useable as an ornament either. My limited edition whiskies have gone up in value too. But that is also a real thing and even if no one wanted to buy it off me it's still not useless. 🥃 The stacker was just going off grid with his money. Reading fraudulent activity into his comments may be unfounded. Unless he pays "paper" money it's traceable through digital / online transactions anyway.

I'd ask you how much it would cost to launch a rocket with asteroid miners to that rock and return it *SAFELY* back to Earth. You'd see that it is far cheaper to just mine it out of the Earth, which is why prices will remain the way they are for quite some time. (Like for our lifetime amount of time) The market will always hold the cheapest method of production.

Maybe not fraud, but probably tax evasion crimes. Technically everytime you sell gold you have to pay taxes on the gains/losses. Sounds like he just doesn't want to be targeted by the IRS.

Bitcoin is neither use (in the physical sense; industry etc) nor ornament as we say about worthless things where I live. It will not be valueless though because it can be moved seamlessly across borders without showing up on the xray machines at airports. If I was a criminal I'd use it, it's easier than gold for that. Tax evasion with an invisible currency? Lovely. It'll never die.
