Great vid Scott. As a longtime creator/fan of mini comics, I truly believe that the small press and self publishing are the last bastions of free speech and self expression. I rarely read “corporate” comics anymore, as there just seems to be more heart,soul and imagination in home made minis…

I cant argue with that Doug. We are of similar minds when it comes to mini comics.

When I first discovered mini comics first in a book store in Berkeley, I was like "Whaaaaat". I got into making them and still make them. I understand your enthusiasm!

Love the idea of taking the story boards making them into ashcans and then putting them out as previews. ^_^
@ScottSerkland2 жыл бұрын
It’s also a good idea to include a coupon with your preview that goes towards the finished comic.

This is awesome! I’ve been watching your videos for a little while now and I’ve especially enjoyed your older comic making ones. Thank you for all the work you put into these! I’ll definitely have to take a look at that website even if it’s meant for kids. Who says adults can’t learn from things meant for kids? Some of the greatest books of all time were written for kids, and adults all around the world still enjoy them!

Thanks for being a loyal viewer. It’s true anyone can learn from this course.

Would be nice if you leave links for some of those comics, unless you got those from conventions or art fairs. I really like seeing different art styles and different formats for comics.
@ScottSerkland2 жыл бұрын
Most of these comics I got from shows or don’t have links to where to buy them unfortunately.
@Argh5252 жыл бұрын
Where can I buy some of the mini comics you showed in this video?
@ScottSerkland2 жыл бұрын
Most of these are no longer available but here's a link to a store that sells a number of diverse mini comics www.wizd-az.com/

For kids only? ☹️ Sounds like a cool site for adults who are still kids at heart. Going to show my niece and nephew the site, and see if they like it.

Honestly, I watched a lot of the courses and learned a lot. I think now that the videos are free a parent or guardian could watch the free content and all the additional community functions where kids interact with each other are safely behind the pay wall.

I have been feeling bad trying to make comics Everytime I post my art on social media someone always have to find faults in my art
@ScottSerkland Жыл бұрын
That can be tough. We all have fault in our work. It’s hard to hear but if it’s a legitimate critique then we know what we get to work on.

I've wanted to print out some mini comics/ash cans at home, but I am confused on how to format the pages for printing.
@ScottSerkland2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say especially since there are so many formats for mini comics. It might help to make a physical dummy book, scan it and use that as a template.

Hey Scott quick question. I love drawing comics, but I'm looking at what most comic artists are doing and it's way more detailed than what I do. I grew up on guys like Jack Kirby and John Byrn and that's how I draw. Is there still a place for me among all these photo-realistic styles?
@ScottSerkland2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, although I'm not sure that it would be at Marvel or DC. (Possibly) My style is not photo realistic, It's very streamline without a lot of heavy black shadows. There is an audience for all styles of art in comics. finding that audience is the tricky part.
@verbena2082 жыл бұрын
@@ScottSerkland Oh good most of the guys are really detailed and I'm just not able to produce a product like that. Any tips on finding my audience. I've done a short trailer for one of my comics, but I'm not sure what to do beyond that and getting it ready for webtoon.

I have other videos showing the process of making mini comics and over 1000 videos giving advice on how to make comics that I do for free. I think I've earned the right to pitch a service I'm involved in once in a blue moon.
