Everything You Need To Know About Marine One..
Welcome back to The Drop, today on the channel we are going to be diving deep inside Marine One.
What is Marine One? Marine One is the call sign when the United States president is on board any Marine Corps helicopter. Ever wonder what are the features of the US President’s Helicopter? It is said that it has ballistic armor, advanced missile warning systems and anti-missile defenses and many more features suited for the president of the United States of America. That is no wonder why a president’s helicopter has a lot of safety features but aside from its cool exterior, what is inside Marine One?
HMX-1 or Marine Helicopter Squadron One is a United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron that has the responsibility for the transportation of the United States President and Vice President and other VIPS under the US Government. Since Marine One is used by the US president it is only logical to have a space or lawn provided inside the White House so that the Marine One can land directly on the White House grounds where the United States of America’s President lives. For sure, the Marine One must also have a comfortable and luxurious interior design meant for the US President and the First Family. Let’s take a look at what is inside the Marine One in this video!

Contrary to what you said, a presidential helicopter did crash in May, 1973. It was carrying Secret Service agents to the island where President Nixon was staying. One agent died in the crash.

Also a VH-60N was lost in May of 1993 southwest of Washington during a post maintenance check flight and a VH-3D was heavily damaged in a ground mishap in Chicago in October of 1990. One interesting note regarding the May 1973 Grand Cay crash of the VH-3A. That aircraft was piloted by an Army crew - pilot was CWO Ronald Bean. Secret Service agent J. Clifford Dietrich was the agent who drowned. An Army crew also flew Nixon from the White House after he resigned. Pilot was LtCol Gene Boyer who wrote a book about his experience - Inside the President's Helicopter. Although all of the aircraft were assigned to HMX-1 some had ARMY painted on the fuselage before the markings became standardized. In 1976 Ford assigned all rotary wing executive flight detachment responsibilities solely to the Marine Corps.

The voiceover confused me by using the word "planes" a lot when referring to the helicopters. At other points he is actually talking about presidential airplanes but showing helicopters on the screen.

The protocol of a salute requires that it be returned and as commander in chief, it is customary for military officers or superiors to return a salute.

You say these helicopters have 3 engines but they have 2, it is the Leonardo EH 101 that has 3

FYI both the VH-3D and the VH-60N only have two engines each(the apu is not counted as an engine since it's not used for propulsion) so I don't know where you got your information from but it is woefully inaccurate. Also Quantico is pronounce Quan-tuh-co, not Quan-tee-co.

Glad I saw your post. I was just about to comment on loosing two of the three engines and still being able to fly. If you loose the two main engines and the APU is the only engine you’ve got left, you’ll be on the ground real quick.

Great video. The one thing you didn't mention is that the helicopter can also be known by the callsign 'Executive One'. This is used only once, when an outgoing president leaves office on their journey to Andrews JAB to fly home. Quick question. Do the helicopters that go out of service get an presidential name?, Like the retiring 'Angel aeroplanes' that are used as air force one?. Very informative video. Good work.

The record held for auto-rotation was 46,000 feet held by a CH-46 from HMX-1, where the entire crew walked away. The President is in GOOD HANDS.
