My 95 m3 coupe is nearing 300k and I've had little to no problems! Regular maintenance and a little bit of upgrades but it's been great. Bought it in 2018 at 160k miles with an auto trans and now it's getting a manual swap! Can't wait, great video by the way 👏
@M-t3ch

@immezdzej8455 That is a lot of miles in 6 years! 20k a year. The manual swap will give a new life to the car. Glad to see other high mileage examples out there.

@M-t3ch it's has more mileage than I'd like, but it has been my daily this whole time! I'm in the manual swap for around 3000$ but I have everything new! Other than the transmission lol I plan on making a detailed video showcasing the swap as well a some driving videos! What setup do you use for your pov footage?

@immezdzej8455 I always love consuming more e36 content, do it! I film using a Gopro Hero 12. With HDR as of recently. Camera is mounted to a hat with a hat clip (not the Gopro ones, I use a larger alternative from Amazon) Audio setup is a Zoom H2n audio recorder and Roland binaural ear bud microphones. Gain is set between 4 and 5 on the audio recorder generally. That is the setup the Topher and Tedward use. Tedward made a video called "How to film the perfect POV" (or something close to that name). Watch that for all the specifics.

I don't recall this type of steering wheel in euro-spec E36 🤔

@gertstolk Yup, this is the wheel we got here lol. It's the same as the non m pre face-lift wheel. Other than it is 10mm smaller in diameter and has the tri color stitching. In 1998.5 we got a 3 spoke which is what I have swapped into my car.

I think I got lucky, cause I scored a relatively low mileage (88,000 miles at the time) early 1992 e36 325is with the special m50b25nv back in March. The previous owners were relatively good to the car, but, they never had any of the major maintenance done (they just did minimum regular maintenance) that needs to get done after that much time, so I've had to overhaul the cooling, power steering, and ignition systems, as well as replace some old rubbers (though i'm not even close to doing everything yet). Despite all that, I love the car, and I've been dailying it since I bought it, so she's been going strong for over 6000 miles :3

Curious if you or Ben have replaced rod bearings at all since it’s a higher mileage car. I know it’s not that big of a deal on these cars but I also have a 97 m3 sedan with 260k miles and I plan on doing the oil pump shaft and nut upgrade and oil baffle and pickup tube etc. and I feel like if I’m already down there I might as well replace the rod bearings but i haven’t done a engine oil analysis yet to see if that would dictate my choice. But keep up the good work I always enjoy the e36 videos!

@whitetincan Negative, these don't have rod bearing issues like the other m engines have. Slightly looser tolerances. If you have no evidence they are worn, leave them. There is more risk in changing them and getting a bad set over sending them.

I have a 99 m3 convertible, bought it 2 years ago with only 70k miles!! it's like in mint condition, got it tuned & cut the cats off & that's it haven't had to do anything to it. got it to 88k miles now it does have a leaking power steering pump & when i had it up on the jack a few months ago i noticed the guibo's got some hairlines in it & doesn't look too good, now you've got me concerned that i definitely need to replace it right away lol
@M-t3ch
@M-t3ch Ай бұрын
@deters6137 If you don't have any driveline vibrations yet and you don't drive the car too hard, just keep an eye on it. Yours being an automatic helps prevent them from "blowing up" as stated in the video. The automatic can't deliver the same driveline shock as a manual is capable of doing. Make sure to do the center support bearing as well while you are in there. Those usually follow close behind.
@deters6137
@deters6137 Ай бұрын
@M-t3ch oh it is a manual lol, I'm not sure if I notice driveline vibrations it's kinda hard to tell, I do red line it at least a couple times everytime I drive it, I heard that's good to do at least once per drive to keep the carbon build up down, but maybe I'll hold off on doing that for now until I replace the guibo 😅
@M-t3ch
@M-t3ch Ай бұрын
@deters6137 I don't know why I thought yours was an auto, lol. If you don't experience any vibrations, send it. When I say shock, I am more so referring to clutch dumping or power shifting. Replacement is not too hard though. Either way, cool car! Easy fix.
