My weirdest Law: I live in the southern part of the USA. There are still “blue laws” in certain areas. So there are various things you cant buy or do on Sundays. Mainly it deals with the sale of alcohol. Said laws can vary county to county and town to town. So out here in the small to medium towns it can get janky. The best example is where I live is near the county line. So there is a gas station on one side of the road that cant sell alcohol on Sunday, but directly across the street maybe 50 feet away is a gas station that can. It leads to interesting conversations whenever you met someone new that moves here. During various sports seasons you will hear things like “Listen.. Parkers sells beer on Sundays, but not the one at the traffic circle. You got to go past the circle and take a right. Now the Parkers on the left hand side there can sell Beer, but the selection isnt great. What you need to do is instead hang a left and go down 2 miles…”

I grew up in a town with blue laws for alcohol but I've been living in a town without them for the past decade and forgot they existed. I was in another town a few months back and decided to grab a bottle of wine for dinner later. At checkout, the cashier took it from while laughing then made me wait for the ~10min for it to turn 12 before she could sell it

Weirdest law I've ever had to follow? I used to work at a bird feed factory. I don't know the extent of the law and what else it includes, but for this type of peanuts in question by Danish law you're allowed to store them for up to a year, but you can only have them packaged for 3 months. As a result of this, I opened 3,250 bags of peanuts over the course of 2 weeks by hand. Truly one of the strangest work experiences 😂

There are a lot of fun laws on the books, especially in the states. Where I grew up any construction work was illegal between memorial day and Labor Day (the summer months) because it could impact tourist season. So all construction would just stop, with projects just sitting incomplete for months.

I've eaten raw onion. It's not as easy to eat as a apple, and 100% do not recommend eating without peeling a few layers off. Also, be warned, it will burn your mouth, so have some water or milk or something to wash the burn juice out, unless you enjoy the pain. (Also, no, I don't eat raw onion like a apple, I eat it layer by layer, and often splitting the layer into several pieces, because of the Burn Juice)

What can be really fascinating about weird laws is if you can discover the specific reason the law was actually passed. For example, there's a law somewhere in the USA (I forget exactly where) that forbids carrying an ice cream cone in your back pocket. Sounds ridiculous, right? Who would even want to do that? Well, I can tell you exactly who: HORSE THIEVES. The target horse would catch the scent of the delicious ice cream and willingly follow the horse thief, who could thus easily pretend to be the horse's true owner.

They would often make these ridiculous or vague laws, enforce them only against black men and women, and then sentence them to “restitution”. Yes. Australia has compulsory voting. All of us on the electoral roll must vote every election. Not voting is a relatively small fine the first time but will increase. Your vote doesn't have to be valid though. Marking 1 for everyone or just drawing a penis still counts in terms of you turned up and submitted a vote. The plus side, like Liam mentioned, voting is very quick. Because it's mandatory they bend over backwards to make it possible so you can't say "didn't vote because there wasn't time/a polling place". Plenty of prevoting and mail voting if necessary. It's also preferencial voting and there's more than 2 parties (to an extent, there's still 2 very dominant ones but there's usually forced negotiation with minor parties) so our preferential voting makes voting the minor parties a safer move because then the big party you do like will get your vote if the little one doesn't win the seat.

The chant at the football match was a Scottish Rangers VS Celtic match which has strong connections to people’s beliefs and religions with Celtic predominantly being Catholics and associated with Ireland which then goes into the whole IRA and the troubles and rangers being Protestants are typically thought to support the monarch and respect the queen and are in opposition. So in short, Scottish Celtic fans singing songs to disrespect the Monetary due to British history and religion.
