Hey Paul, just want you to know how important your content is for someone who doesn't lives in US but is planning to move to! I'm from Brazil and will move to MI and your videos are amazing! Royal Oak is definitelly one of my favorite place to live.

I really enjoyed your videos and comments. I grew up in RO living there from 1951 and 1965. Although the family moved there when I was 10 years old, I consider RO my hometown. In the course of over 70 years much has changed. We went camping in the woods where Beaumont hospital is now. I was a 1950's Woodward Avenue drag racer from the Big Boy at the north end, and the Totem Pole at the south. I could write several pages of comments, but it will suffice to say thank you for your fine work of high interest to me. 😁

I grew up in Royal Oak from 1957 to 1975. People there are real friendly. It's changed so much but love going there to visit my sister. I have lived in the Kalamazoo are for 38 years and people here are very unfriendly. I love living out in the country.

It's always nice to hear about friendly people in a community. It's a shame that things have changed, but at least you can still enjoy visiting your sister there!

I was born in Detroit in mid 60's and we lived in Royal Oak. My father was a Music Director for The Shrine and performed also in Ford Auditorium as a conductor. My Mom was a librarian in Orchard Lake Seminary Library. I have fantastic childhood memories. Block parties still in fashion? :) :)

Yes, but it's a once in a summer thing these days, where the block is closed off for a period of time.

Hey Paul, what's the supply of contemporary style homes like in RO?

We still have historic lows for all houses but you'll find more contemporary builds here and in Birmingham. If you're thinking about buying, send me an email or fill this out so I can help 😃 bit.ly/movingmi

Unfortunately it’s not as fun as it used to be. The historic Main Art Theater in Downtown Royal Oak recently closed down and it used to be my go-to spot for midnight cult movies. There’s a group on Facebook that’s trying to rescue the theater and have it operate as a non-profit theater though I dunno if they’ll succeed.
@aldomaddox64992 жыл бұрын
Ok, so the Main closed down, but there is now an Emagine right behind it, which might not have cult movies, but far more people are interested in seeing something new.
@croswellianprincess3590 Жыл бұрын
They killed the Main, leveled it and something new is being built there. I drive through Royal Oak every once in a while but never go there for anything because I hate paying for parking.

Lived in Royal Oak in my early 20s. Was good for 1 year. Rented a house maybe a mile or so away from direct downtown. Not a fan at all. Maybe it has changed but I doubt it. Didnt find the food all that great and the prices were outrageous. The only upside to living there was Hippy's Pizza (insanely overpriced back then and I'm sure still is) and the bar hopping. My biggest issues were the insane crowds during the weekend and the significant amount of people obviously from Detroit or Oak Park most likely. They were also so rude and sketchy. They weren't the only ones. Tons of frat boy types that were just as bad and entitled. Besides the bar, the movie theater at Emagine has given me the worst theater experiences ever. The city just seems to attract the trashiest people possible. I go to the movies A LOT. Only there have I had my seats stolen (all are reserved) and had people literally bring in chinese food that stinks up the place. Absolutely miserable every time I went. Let's not forget the police and government are horrendous. They look for every opportunity to gouge you. Unless it has changed, public parking was a horrible experience. You'd think the Zoo would be a good attraction, but honestly the Detroit Zoo is not great. Been to 4 zoos this year and Detroit ranks last for me by a good margin. CLE, CLB, and IND zoos were noticeably better. Don't think a Zoo should really factor into moving any where tho. I personally just do not see the appeal of living there long term especially if housing prices have kept up with how insane they were like 7-8 years ago. I can't imagine being an actual adult and living there. Woodward alone is horrific to drive in. I've lived across Oakland county and Royal Oak is by far the worst place I've lived.
@aldomaddox64992 жыл бұрын
You really have to stretch to complain about the Detroit Zoo. I've been to zoos all over the world, including San Diego and multiple zoos in big European cities and the Detroit Zoo holds up with all of them. Also, what is CLB supposed to be?
