Just looked up where Methyl anthranilate is found in essential oils. So many Citrus oils have them. No wonder mixing naturals and synthetics is so hard. No wonder people try to make a Synthetic version of a natural essential oil. Bergamot, neroli, gardenia, champak, tuberose, Jasmine, lemon, Ylang Ylang, strawberry, mandarine orange, lemon. Schiff bases explain so much. Thank you for this video.

@@sammacer Yep, I saw the same thing. Tried to find other sources, didn't find any. However, it does match my experience mixing fragrance oils (that probably have aldehydes) and citrus essential oils.

I'm a big fan of Paul's bases and have the long lasting lemon on my psh list actually. I didnt know about it being a schiffs base. Pretty cool. I was thinking it would be great for a gourmand lemonade fragrance.

From what I gathered, the 'Schiff base' molecule is inside (amongst other molecules) Paul's 'Lemon base'. And yeah, if you try that, definitely let me know how it goes!

@@sammacer finally got my nose on it and it smells interesting. Not 1:1 with lemon at all, but has a citrus feel with almost a linalool like freshness (yet doesn’t smell like Bergamot)… my nose isn’t particularly refined haha. It’s a bit “sysnthetic” to my nose… But it lasts a long time! Good to use in low dilution for the “skeleton” of a citrus fragrance IMO

Can naturals contain amines? And are all ingredients with names end with “ate” amines?
@ROXFRANCES
@ROXFRANCES 2 жыл бұрын
Sam what I cant figure out is, are we heating until crystalization forms, like I seen in other videos ? And we are using the CRYSTALS ?? Or are we just heating to produce a reaction and then using the same liquid we started with ??

I love brownish perfumes, as long as they don't stain. Why is Aurantiol so thick in comparison to the two materials alone?
@sammacer
@sammacer 2 жыл бұрын
From a chemistry point of view, the Schiff base reaction increased the size of the conjugated pi bond system. This can make the molecule more susceptible to absorbing light at certain wavelengths, leading to a darker colour.

Hi Sam, I just looked at the compendium. But cannot understand what he means by Molar weight. Could you please shed some light on it.
@sammacer
@sammacer 2 жыл бұрын
You should look it up on google - it's the weight of one Mole (a very large number) of the molecules.

Small side note. A double bond is not stronger, it is more reactive.
@sammacer
@sammacer 3 жыл бұрын
In terms of reactivity, the π-bond is more reactive for sure. The double bond taken as a whole has a higher bond enthalpy however, which is what I was getting at - you can certainly say it's stronger.
