What is SIJS? 🛡️
Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is a special immigration status in the United States designed to protect foreign minors who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected by one or both parents.
Who qualifies?
Minors under 21 years old and unmarried.
Currently residing in the U.S.
A state court has determined that they cannot reunite with one or both parents due to abuse, abandonment, or neglect.
A state court has also determined that it is not in the minor’s best interest to return to their home country.
Benefits of SIJS:
Allows the minor to apply for permanent residency (Green Card).
Provides stability and legal protection in the U.S.
Prevents the minor from returning to a dangerous or abusive environment.
If you or someone you know might qualify for SIJS, it's crucial to consult with an immigration attorney for the necessary guidance and assistance.
