Farm the locked faction crates. Pull up Division2Map.com to get all their location. Once opened they will save on your map to locate any time. We have gotten multiple backpacks from these.

What does skill tier mean and how does it help with your character. Right now I’m only concerned about armour and damage

There is a talent on backpack called "Energize" that gives you OC when you use a medkit.

Great video bro. Another cool thing to mention is the Technician Specialization. Before TU8 this specialization gave a percentage to skill power. Since skill power is no more, it was replaced with Skill Tier plus 1. So you can run 5 gear pieces with Skill Tier, and then one with blue Armor to be more beefy, or one red Weapon Damage for more weapon DPS. The Skill Tier plus 1 from the Technician Specialization will give you your 6th Skill Tier, and you can still get Overcharge to proc.

what exactly does status effect do? I run the hive a lot and I don't know if the bleed is causing more damage or just lasting longer

Status effect will improve the damage of the bleed amd may also increase the duration of the bleed. Works the same with burn or disrupt etc.
