Don't worry, if it's developed to that extent, your not going to be interested in driving on the highway. If your not running the FIA inlet restrictor the map on the Pectel system will destroy the motor even with 109 octane. Magneti marelli make a reliable ECU that also has good definition for centre and rear diff. control on the original Prodrive/Ricardo/ Dave Lapworth box and rear diff. Mines an old 1994 shell with 1998-2002 WRC mechanicals. Don't bother with the Cosworth electronics, virtually no one has the software, though Cosworth engines are still competitive and reliable. (Min of 400 competitive miles between rebuilds) if you keep the revs below 8500rpm. Use 9000 too often and its done in 100 miles or less. At 27k per refresh it's an expensive season, even if you don't crash too badly on most events🙄😔

It really is a shame that there aren't more stand alone options for the VA chassis but after running the Motec m142 in my 2016 wrx for a couple years now I have to admit that I'm wildly impressed. Pretty expensive but the engine control is excellent without loosing oem functionality. I would encourage anyone with a 2015+ to give them a look if they are wanting to go the stand alone route

I'm running a Motec M1 from John Reed Racing on my 2007 Sti. All OEM functions are retained with my setup, for those that are wondering. Plus I've got the flexibility to run failsafes (coolant pressure, oil pressure, knock, ect) in addition to being able to watch everything (egt by cylinder, ect). It's a big investment, but totally worth it. And one can usually get 85% of the Investment back selling the units second hand if need be. Just my experience

Just wanted to give people a heads up, after talking to several different reputable tuners in my area, in general most if not all previous versions of downpipe/jpipes are tunable HOWEVER they will throw cels. The only one that is out there right now is the new GrimmSpeed's V2 jpipe that is said not to cause any cels. Just had one local guy get tuned and said no problems at all with it. And from what I've been told by several Subaru techs if you do get a code (P0420) you can run an 02 spacer/defouler. One tuner did confirm it does not mess with tuning either but could not comment any further. I haven't had much luck finding people who are actually running one to see if it does help.

Based on my research (and it’s extensive because I’ve been planning out a stand-alone build for a year) there is NO aftermarket ECU which will handle emissions monitor checks or be passed by an OBD2 emissions test. Some aftermarket ECUs can be connected to the OBD2 port for canbus communication so something like a diagnostic scan-tool will still pick up codes and data pids. But if you live in an OBD2 emissions state the car will not pass because even if a scan tool can communicate with the stand-alone it won’t report any completed emissions monitors.

Before all my fellow va fa20 and ej owners go out and buy a stand-alone please keep in mind that alternative options are being worked out at the moment, we will have an opensource solution in the near future. And this is gonna happen in 1 or 2 ways. 1. Opensource from scratch 2. Cobb source code (either exact replica, or heavily based on access tuner pre green speed)

@ps3alphagamer12
@ps3alphagamer12 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesj8348 it’s a conglomerate of people apart of the community who have the relevant knowledge and skills to work on the software aspect. For now if your build consists of items that will now trigger cel’s or if you have a flex fuel kit, your best bet is to either get ecutek, or wait. If you have the money then stand alone is fine as long as you’re okay with going that direction. However a little patience will not only save you money but also hassle from having to keep moving over to other tuning platforms as your build progresses. In the mean time I highly recommend getting a tactrix cable as you will need that once opensource is a available

As far as cost goes I saw that mega squirt makes a pretty cheap non plug and play ecu and harness for my 04 sti. It is $360 but my question is would this be a cheaper option in the end if I am already having my engine torn apart for a rebuild? Link is $1600 so as long as labor installing a wiring harness isn’t over a grand do you think that is a viable cheap option? I just don’t know much about ecu’s and as long as I can tune it and it has launch control and flat foot shifting I’m good.

Say you were building karma right now instead of last year... You've got the 1300cc injectors, made fuel lines/dual pump in tank, you have the full $800 Cobb flexfuel kit and now you have to decide if you're going to work with the castrated Access Port/ comply with emissions (evap, charcoal canister, tgv, cated dp) and just run a 93octane map/ have the second map for ethanol.... Or do you say fudge it $$$ and go standalone. Where I'm at now, I was building "The Karma specialrecipe" with +2mm rods minus the rotated turbo and AMS intake manifold... But instead of the BC valve train in karma I have ferrea valve train/tomei poncams and ported heads. I've only got an FP Blue, flexfuel was so easy last month I literally just wanted to see how far I can push a stock location JB turbo with a mild cam and porting. I think I'm tapping out on e85 for now/ just enjoy it as a headache free 93 octane street car... The extra $ + inconvenience of checking ethanol content at the pump like it's 2011 again and switching maps or $$$ standalone and find a tuner comfortable with whatever you have.
@Smeedia
@Smeedia 2 жыл бұрын
Personally I'd say fudge it and get the standalone, if I'm already in that deep I'd just send it and do everything proper 🙏 think you'd be happier long term with full functionality

Tanner, I need some help bro.. my '05 Outback XT motor is done. I bought a jdm ej20x to swap on, but it's dual AVCS. The swap seems to work using the jdm block/heads along with the USDM Intake manifold/ turbo and Exhaust manifold. All sensors/switches plug in except the exhaust AVCS sensors, which people leave unplugged. The thing is, my car came modified and tuned for a catless DP, CAI and Grinspeed Boost Controller; however, I was never given its tune or Access Port, it was probably open source. Now I'm afraid to swap the jdm motor and damage it due to those existing mods on my car. I heard iwire makes a merge kit to control the jdm exhaust AVCS sensors, but I'd need a jdm ECU. What a headache man.. What do you recommend I do? Do I have any options or should I return the motor while I still can? Thank in advance!

What I've found out sofar for us GD sti guys 04-06 tgvs are side feed injector rails/ this is a problem since the tgv deletes are also top feed fuelrail conversions... The TGV sensor is identical to the TPS sensors, should be able to plug in 2 spare TPS sensors and bam the check engine light should stay off/ I'm going as far as milling dummy flanges to weld on to the aftermarket tgv deletes in the stock location. Thoughts anyone?
