When it comes to wastegate spring sizing you typically want to put in a size that is 60 percent of your target boost pressure that way when the tuner is adjusting your boost pressure it requires a larger percentage of duty cycle giving him better control. I.e. you don't want to add 5 percent and boost pressure rise 7 psi you want to add 20 percent and get 7 psi. Remember the tuner can double whatever the spring pressure is in the Wastegate.

A wastegate will lower turbo shaft speed, and controlling boost with a BOV leak will raise shaft speed at the same boost level. Not saying there aren't instances to do it, but not ideal for regular old boost control

I just bought a 2020 STi and I'm planning on doing a bit of work to it, but nothing crazy, mostly just full exhaust, cold air intake, intercooler, stuff like that. I'm not planning on trying to get crazy power out of it, but should I install an external waste gate is that a waste with the stock turbo?
@Smeedia4 жыл бұрын
You can install one with stock turbo but TBH it's not needed if your just doing some basic bolt ons 🙏

@@Smeedia okay cool. Is getting a new turbo the point where you'd need a new waste gate? I want to increase the power a bit, but I'm more interested in doing suspension work to the car.

Yessir, once you swap turbos is really when you NEED it.

I already have a Tial 44mm external wastegate and my tuner told me that my wastegate is too big. Can I ask him just to adjust it with springs? Rather than buying another turbo with internal wastegate?

What turbo are you using? 👀

Personally I'd swap to a 38mm gate

Open Vs Recirc? I don't see much on why one would choose one over the other. Besides maybe with how it sounds.
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Main reason is sound, you'll get a little better performance with open vs recirc

Is there recommended mods to go with a ewg? Picked up a 44mm tial just because it was a good deal lol currently only have a turbo back with a tune.
@Smeedia4 жыл бұрын
Boost controller, up pipe, header, downpipe, intake, fuel mods. Not really needed u til you start to see boost creep with the car. But even a stock turbo will benefit from one

Hey bro I have a 2011 Subaru sti my engine blew up but I don’t know if I should go oem pistons or forged, I’m gonna go for a daily tune and probably won’t push it as much and i have a down pipe with a tomei exhaust what setup do you recommend? I just don’t want to blow up my engine again 😭

Just looking at staying around stock power? 🤔

My 2011 FXT hit 19.51 LBS of boost on stage 1. Is that safe? Only mod is K & N drop in filter. Looking to go stage 1+ soon.

Check the target boost number for the map, off the top of my head I don't recall what Cobb sets their ots tune at
@10MMsocketfinder3 жыл бұрын
I just checked. They stated at peak boost 14.5. Should I be worried?
@10MMsocketfinder3 жыл бұрын
Bro, I love your videos. But when you mentioned over boost. I got a lil nervous. When I went to look on the website after your response ( thank you by the way) I saw that it said peak 14.5 and noticed the map went from version 350 to 400 so I just updated it.

Great video as always 💪🏻 Is there any sound difference between the 38mm and 44mm? Either pitch or volume ?
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Nothing noticeable IMO my old 44mm was just as loud as my 38mm is. However the pitch is slightly diffrent

Thanks for the content! I do have one question... Is it possible/is it a good idea to run an EWG without swapping out the intake manifold? I was thinking of running IAG UELH, Up pipe, and EWG on a 93 tune with DP, TMIC, Intake, and fueling upgrades. Open to opinions...
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Totally fine to do that with the stock intake manifold 🙏
