When the process talk about separator like a vertical separator, the inlet should be at the center not the top. The top nozzle shall the exit going to the inlet pipe of the engine. The center inlet tube goes down by gravity including the moist that will be trapped by the screen. The upper outlet nozzle will carry air and a small amount of oil mist.

I quickly looked this one up, couldn't find out; will it fit a facelifted X-Trail T31(2013) with the M9R engine?

Checked mine after 5000km and no oil, only drained some water. Minimal oil on the filter.

It does take time. I thought mine wasn’t doing much, but once that filter medium becomes wet then it really does collect and drop oil. Mine is just on a car, not a ute, but it’s an ASX 2.2 tdi that has a very similar diesel to the Triton. I get a lot of water in the drain tube in VIC winter and let it out every week or 2. I get minimal oil at the bottom of the drain hose. Every 10k I use paper towels gently pressed around the filter to remove excess oil and extend life, just using my hands to squeegee it dry. I do that 1-2 times through winter as the condensation gummies the oil a bit on the filter and housing, so I like to clean that off. It’s only a 5 minute job. I’ve had it for >2 years and I recently checked inside all the hoses and they were squeaky clean
