It's a decent job (I guess) but I wouldn't recommend staying there for long time. Hours are usually terrible and a shift can last like 11-12 hours if working full - time. If you really have to work there ask manager if it's possible to work ~20-30 hours a week. Be on time for interview, ask some questions (even if you don't care that much about that store) and 99.99% that they will hire you.

Depending on which grocery store you work at, you can make good money if you move up. I work at a Hyvee in Minnesota and the average salary for a department manager is around $60k. If you’re valuable to them, they’ll continue to pay you more.

@@youtubeshadowbannedme Add keywords that retail likes to hear in your application. If you have never worked in retail, literally watch few videos on yt "day in life of retail worker" or something like that and you have experience. Retail is basically same shit everywhere. Stocking boxes, placing labels on boxes, cleaning your aisle, giving change to customer, inspecting goods that came with new delivery. And repeating this thing like a billion times per day. I would recommend practicing something on the side while you work in retail. There are plenty of online resources nowadays. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck in some store for multiple years.

Try a different store, retail is constantly hiring. Try zara, h&m, home depo, other nearby retail stores. Go in a store in person and ask someone there if they are hiring or not. You don't need any experience to work this kinda job. Just present yourself (or bullshit something that looks presentable and believable) and they will hire you.

I work for a super market that has gone all online training. The new staff that have done the online training seem to think they know more then the staff that have worked in the super market for years. We older staff can see all the mistakes but management save money and never really know what is happening on the floor. In person training is so much better.

there is no communication between managers and the lower employees. each shift will do different things and not communicate with the others... then night shift usually fucks everything up if they choose to do anything at all. your day will consist (if your a grocery clerk) unloading trucks of pallets, breaking down those pallets onto "U-Boats" mostly store brand stuff atleast my store you will only fill water isle, paper isle and some goya. you will work the freezer (fucking sucks) and will do dairy also. basically the grocery clerk is the worker bee of the store you will work everything when things needs to be done milk, eggs, freezer, store brand goods , water, paper towels/ napkins. store brand soda etc.. you then will load trucks with empty pallets and plastic . you will be showing customers where items are even if its not your designated zone. you will be asked to check the back for something even when you know its not back there or you have nothing back there for the sole purpose of customer service . you will break down boxes and put them in the bale , after the bale gets filled to a certain level you will take wires and create a bale brick to put onto the truck. you will do this every day. same shit everyday. you will eat chicken that comes from the deli or a sandwhich from the deli and some candy maybe or cookies as a snack everyday unless you pack your own lunch. if you work 8 hours you get a half hour lunch you must clock out for. anything below 8 hours you get a 15 min break that you dont need to clock out for. the job fucking sucks and you do more then what your asked to do and are payed for. Its a good first job for highschool kids and maybe someone whos been a fuck up most of their teens / young adult hood and just needs a job to get a start into the workforce. as for a career i couldnt imagine doing this shit day in and day out. schedules are never the same unless youve worked there for a few years and are part of the union. thats the other thing. the guys thats been there 10 years plus and are in the union will never show up and when they do they are lazy, they know they will get a paycheck either way. Its an hourly job so my advice is to work but dont work hard and dont be lazy , just go at a chill pace, take your time breaking down the boxes, take your time going to the bale, take your time putting the boxes in the bale. if you over work yourself they will expect you to work like that all the time.

DON'T get stuck there, i've been told this a lot and seen it and there's a lot of angry, desperate people who work in grocery stores. Just do what you need to do for the mean time and go! That what i'm doing while finishing college and i've had a co worker who had a breakdown at work and lots of people quitting, so just do your work and go home. Yes it's cool to be acquaintances with your co workers and end up friends but remember we NOT friends. Keep ypu business to yourself too, i've seen people tell there business and there buisness being told being used aganist them. Take advantage of using you PTO when needed too, your mental and health is way more important

as a worker in the grocery store, I have advice to say to anyone who considers to apply for this job, do your job, sure, you can help your co-worker, but in a way that does not become their habit to exploit you every single time - be nice and try to be friends with them, but set from the start that you are not easy to exploit never ever argue with customers, and don't chit-chat with them more than necessary, you can smile, and you can be friendly but not to the point standing in the middle of the store and talking about this or that, your boss would mark that in their notebook, be careful with customer money and double-check on the computer what items you scanned, sometimes you might double scan the same item, and then you will get angry customer once u print the bill, that is all

I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia at 28 and i am on a once monthly shot. I worked at this grocery store when i was 26 and had no problems. I was not on the right medication at the grocery store job and other jobs. I was basically on resperdal a sedating medicine. Sedating tranquilizers are different then non sedating tranquilizers. Eventually you will become to sedated with the tranquilizers and they will lower your medication too much then you will have a relapse. @@mortis3732 I was the right age, but they had like all these regulations because I wasn't 16 so the manager was like I really want to hire you but I can't cause of all these regulations. Come back in 6 months tho! I realized that starbucks is probably a better option lol.

@@mortis3732 I guess it was a dub because I got hired just kinda dumb that my state has all these rules.

If you do find a job that you enjoy and want to come to work each day/night tasks to keep your own sanity intact and a best friend to hang out with there (Courtesy Clerk is the worst cause all you’re doing is cleaning besides the bagging of the groceries/carry outs /carts I did that job for 18 years so I know what I’m saying) Good luck

I don't want to say how long I've been a grocer (make any comments you want, I've made them all) But even I can't believe I keep going back. The perks would never come close to outweighing all the bullshit. From dogshit coworkers to management to head office, it's the same thing every day...bullshit Lousy pay, poor scheduling and don't even get me started on the customers. I could keep going but I'm already getting angry, and I start work soon so, later

I work part time at Trader Joes. There are good aspects - discounts, most of the customers are very nice and some are very fun to interact with, most of the co-workers are really good people. As far as bad aspects - notice that I used the word “most” when referring to the good parts above. It’s a job.

Fun fact: I'm working for ShopRite as a Grocery clerk and I fucking hate it now and it's only been 3 of my first days.... remember Saturday & Sundays...well say bye bye to those days.

Sorry you work there I know the feeling cause I used to work at Safeway in Oregon and totally hated being a bagger/courtesy clerk except for a few tasks I did enjoy having my bestie/other good friends there and wearing jeans I do shop on occasion at Shop Rite in Glassboro and learning where to find things now due to the store’s construction going on now since my former workplace had been through it in 2005

Heres a tip for retail just do what meets the quota dont over work cause in retail 90% of your coworkers are lazy and will take advantage of you working hard which means more hours no raise and you’re expected to do everyones slack. Just do the minimum you are required trust me you dont want to be a slave for others

1 tip: invest in a pair of kneepads. It makes getting low easier, and you save your knees unnecessary strain/wear and tear!
