Decent guide, Just a small correction on your quickness explanation. Quickness increases attack speed to 150% (and alac increases cd speed to 125%) meaning quickness will decrease the skill activation time by 33% (and alac by 20%). Also dragon armor can be a very interesting alternative to marauder depending on your crit chance (or can be taken alongside marauder aswell). Last but not least when picking a gear/rune/sigil set its important to notice that some runes/sigils tend to be alot more efficient then raw stats in providing certain boosts (mostly for PvE and WvW) This is mainly the case for increasing healing power, condi duration and boon duration.

Slight correction: marauders offers vitality at the expense of power and ferocity. It actually has more precision than berserker’s which makes handy to hit crit cap if you don’t have precision gear

Great video, will definitly recommend when I'm mentoring. Some corrections/fyi: Quickness: 50% faster casting means 33% lower cast times. In you example the 3 sec cast goes down to 2. Weakness: When a glancing blow accurs you can't crit. Good against builds focused on crit. Alac: 25% faster cooldown, which is 20% less cooldowntime. Slow:makes you cast half speed, meaning in your example the cast time would go from 3 to 6. (Not sure, tried to look for a source, might be wrong, someone double check me pls) Healer gear: Some raid bosses take agro depending on toughness, so unless you wanna be tanking use Harrier( or ask the tank to go higher).

Questions: 1. Can you critical condition damage or is that a strike damage thing only? I'm pretty sure it's strike damage only but I want to make sure. 2. If a target has torment (more damage to stationary targets), does he take more damage while under effects like launched, floated, pulled, etc? You are technically moving but not under your own control. Comments: 1. Crit chance maxes out at 100% meaning all strikes are crits. 2. Boon duration maxes out at 100% meaning all boons last twice as long as normal. 3. power and condi damage gives diminishing returns past 2500 (please confirm)

Condition damage cannot critically hit, it is only strike damage that can. Even though forced movement is not player controlled it still counts as movement so lesser torment damage. Your first two comments are correct, the DR for power and condition damage I am not 100 sure

I've been playing GW2 for a year now, but only in the last few days did I find out how the stat caps really work... Some have a maximum limit (from 100%) like concentration, expertise and precision; others do not, such as power, healing power, and so on. Well, this isn't news or a secret, but I think the game could explain more about it, although it doesn't take the blame off of my lack of attention. Well, would we have any chance of you making a video talking a little bit about it? I know that the meta changes with each update and that each class with trait variations will have a certain affinity for each stat, but both for new players and for some older ones, I feel that this information could be more explicit, especially when we can consider the minimum/lower cap and maximum cap/highier for each stat.

What's the difference between "Open World" and "PVE content"?

Open world is generally where you can be attacked directly by enemies and mobs while also usually being responsible for your own health and safety. Think of it like solo venturing. Pve content focuses on group based combat to take down a boss where you have dedicated support players to heal and or tank for you

This was a helpful video. Can I request a video helping new players on how to understand the class roles espcially for PvP. The issue my friends and I are having with GW2 is there truly is no trinity but clearly some builds are better at soaking up damage where as others are better for burst dps or support, etc. Being able to figure out which specilizations and builds fit into these boxes would be incredibly helpful. I have gone for the deadeye because it was so clearly a range burst dps but most other classes just confuse me by having so many ways to play them. Thanks!

As much as that video would be useful, there is no way to make a video like that. Your role doesn't depend on your profession/elite spec but a combination of all your traits/stats/weapons. Showcasing all of the combinations would take too much time for 1 video.

It's tough to specifically categorize that way for pvp just because each spec can do quite a bit, for example a tempest for the elementalist can do fantastic support but then changing the weapon and a few traits make it a great teamfight dps. I'll see what I can cook up!

@@CaffeinatedDad I could be wrong, as I am a newb, but it seems like builds revolve around 1-2 core ideas. I am playing around with the virtuoso and I am trying to find the best way to quickly stack blades. My bladestorm abilities get tons of benefits in my trait lines so fights I do well stacking blades I dominate but when I don’t I get crushed. The key to the build is using weapon abilities to stack blade quick and then firing blade storms as often as possible. That is the core of the build so if I explained it to someone I would point out why this weapon stacks blades faster VS others etc. Power builds and condi builds are common for all classes it seems but no one explains what condis and why they are trying to stack. People just say “here is the rotation, don’t understand why, just do this.” Cooking up a way of explaining a few builds of different types and what they do, what their focus is and why would be helpful. Essentially, what is the core concept of the build and breaking down why that is to help people think about how to construct a build.

thanks, I play a lot of mmo's so, I was like, okay, are all these status effects broken down into buffs, debuffs, dots etc, still just a massive amount. Like, does every class need crit ....there are three separate stats just for crit. In most mmos, a stat would be beneficial to the role or class you play, and it would make it much easier to know if you're building a character right. it's just NOT straight forward at all in GW2. I think the game should tell you more information about the builds and specs for your class based on what weapon you're using. We're forced to go to a build site, especially as new players, those builds don't tell you WHY they chose the stats, it's frustrating.

Easily one of the biggest reasons why my friends and I quit GW2 back in the day and also why we are struggling again. Class design is interesting and fun when you can figure out a decent build but it is anything but clear until you pour tons of time into understanding things. Wish there was more of a clear trinity in GW2 but then again I am not hardcore like others who have played for 10 years.

It can be overwhelming since there's a *lot* of stuff to keep track of, but it's not that bad once you understand what each one is and how it relates to your particular build. For instance, every class does need crit _if you're playing a damage dealing build that focuses on direct damage, aka strike or power damage,_ but _only if_ you are. Generally speaking all direct damage builds in GW2 are focused on reaching 100% crit chance to ensure that every hit is a crit, so you want exactly enough precision (ie the crit chance stat) to get you to 100%. The tricky part of that is knowing how much precision you need, since certain buffs and class traits will give you additional crit chance, so some classes have an easy time reaching 100% while others have a more difficult time, and you'll generally have an easier time if you're in a group giving you 100% uptime on certain buffs.

The buffs and debunks seem to be the easiest to translate for most players. They understand that boons and conditions are the same but some conditions cause damage while others only control or negatively affect your character

So, the good thing about all of these stats and their fine details is that, unless you want to compete at a super high level, the game is forgiving enough that you don't actually *need* to know it all. You'll have a smoother time if you do, but it's absolutely possible to play even endgame content without having it all down pat. I do agree that GW2 needs to work on it's explanations in-game, but the main reason it works this way is that a fundamental part of the game is being able to utilise this customisation at a high level. The focus for improvement over time is skill/familiarity instead of a gear progression. So it's not actually intended for new players to need to worry about this stuff right out of the gate. Where things go wrong are, as you say, with the way the game doesn't communicate either this information directly for players to see, or by actually directing them to the official wiki (which I say because it is linked to from within the game itself via the /wiki command) so that players have a more natural transition into this part of the game as they reach an appropriate level.
