I like the way you measured for the rake back and the downspout I always measure the soffit and subtract 7 so a 27” soffit will be a 20” rake back, I usually double seal my miters, meaning run sealer on the miter and then on the inside where you can see the joints meeting up

Thanks for the great content! I'm hoping to get started in the spring and I'm currently putting together a business plan. I have a couple probably very obvious, noobie questions that are probably too basic to cover in a video. If anyone in the comments has any advice to how to build the best rig and create the smoothest workflow, please let me know. 1) Any big difference between the Ironman and Ironman Jr KWM machines? It looks like you can fit a full size 5/6 in your rig. Is that a extended/long cargo van? Do you need the extra couple feet in the van to operate with a full coil? I'm looking at a Chevy 2500 Extended Wheelbase to build my rig. The junior is smaller but how's the performance? 2) When starting out, is it best to buy full coils of white and cut to size for each job? Can you buy 20-100lbs of coil of a specific color per job? I'm having a nightmare of a time finding a local building supply that carries gutter coil. Looks like the closest distributor is about 90 miles away. Will the coil run okay if I cut 350lb coil into thirds and feed through ~100lb sections?? Easier to manage that way. 3) How'd you get your gutter machine into your rig? 1,400lbs is heavy. Did you find a custom fab company or do you have something like a shop crane? 4) Are downspouts sold in standard fabricated lengths? What if you are running a downspout for a two story house? Join two gutters by crimping one end? 5) The biggest local guy in my area is running .032 Al as a standard for residential and commercial. He's expensive so I expect it's probably a marketing thing. Any reason why .027 wouldn't work for residential? I assume that's what most everyone uses. Or are you using .032 gauge Al for your residential jobs too? 6) I watched the pricing video you fellas posted not too long ago. Is that $7-$9/ft pretty standard? I got three quotes over the past 1.5 years for my house. All three quoted 40ft and 1 downspout over $1,000. That's what got me to start looking into starting a seamless gutter business. Feels like there's a lot of work out there for a reasonably priced alternative. Anyways, I appreciate the work your doing. I really admire anybody out there working for themselves. Making these videos is probably a real hassle so thanks for the effort.

1) I've never been around a JR machine and have always been recommended against them for full time use. For a van. the minimum for me is 12' long so downspout boxes fit easily 2) I would recommend spin offs which are coils bought for each job. easier to deal with. Used to be a price break on full coils. None of my suppliers have this any more 3) I have a fork lift. My first machine ever, I used a cherry picker for engines. Consider just renting a forklift for a day 4)10' is standard. Yes, crimp ends to make a joint 5) in my area, .027 is standard. .032 is an upgrade for 12" coil. .032 is standard for 15" coil 6)We are around $10 per ft for standard 5" k style. price goes up from there. kinda sounds like 6" gutter pricing maybe? Thanks for your comment! Good luck with your research

Small jobs there can be a base or sent up cost that make thwm expensive. As someone that's started and run multiple businesses I've seen countless people think thwy can do it cheaper than the going rate. If three companies gave similar rates that's what it costs to run a company to do it. I bet you didn't even check for workman's comp or workmanship insurance. " Liabilty doesn't cover the work done. Go for it, but you goal should be to charge more than the competition. If you're doing that you can give an old couple a half off whenever you want.

I've watched a few of your videos where you install gutters on a property with metal and have a rookie question. Are the gutters you have coming out of the machine made out of aluminum or some type of steel (i.e. galvanized steel)? I noticed the screws you use with the rubber washes are steel screws, so I assumed the gutters are some type of steel too so you are not mixing metals? Thanks!
@StartARainGutterBusiness7 ай бұрын
There is a galvanic scale you can search for. Steel and aluminum are close on the scale, so they are ok together for a certain lifespan

And it's only okay to put your gutter on the drip edge on steep metal roofs. If you have a low pitched metal roof or any type of shingle, we highly recommend putting it under the drip edge

Same as a home as long as you have a fascia metal or wood if there is not a fascia you will have to hang from the roof with hangtite hangers with clip and a strap over the top of the roof running screw through roof, strap and hanger solid as screwed through the fascia

My roof outside corner is angled (both sides are angled). It is a trick to put a gutter there. Any suggestions? Thank you.
@NickGentile-eo4gd8 ай бұрын
Measure from the top of the fascia board where the angle is farthest out. If you measure from the bottom you piece of gutter will not be big enough your corner is going to sit on the top right below the drip edge or stop right underneath the drip edge so start your measurement from the top where its farthest out😢

Only one downspout on a 40 foot run? Metal roof, besides? it will definitely flow over the front of the gutter in a heavy rain. Also, if you put 2 downspouts on, like it has to have to not flood, Alcoa aluminum recommends hanging the gutter level, making a nicer line on a level fascia board, and the gutter is flowing both ways, equally. Alcoa says a quarter inch of leftover water in the gutter is absolutely OK.
