Thanks for taking the time to share this process. I need 1 gutter over my Dads deck. He's out of town and I want to surprise him when he gets back. I would usually ask his advice on how to do this right, but that would ruin the surprise. Thanks for standing in and showing the process so i can put up this gutter with confidence that he'll be happy with the install and function. Much appreciated.

I have been a Lic. Gutter Contractor in CA since 1977 / Some of these DIY people are not too bad / From a 1 to 10 / 10 been really good I would give this person a 7 / When he lapped the 2 gutters he installed the cut piece on the outside ( wrong ) and the hole on the outlet cup do not need to be there / some of his advice will help / but Josh who is also on KZbin / I think is the best

Can you send me a video of does it better plz ...👍

Absolutely not. Then he should have cut the left piece and put the left piece inside because the water flows from left to right. The only mistake he made was that he made the cut in the right piece. Anyway it's difficult to explain. Everything was good except he should have cut the other piece and put that cut inside. You are partially right. But don't forget which way the water flows.

I really like how you show close ups of the detail and instructions you were giving. That was really helpful! Thanks! Also, thanks for describing this like you were speaking to a regular person, not giving professional jargon like you were speaking to another professional who does this for a living. I appreciate that.

My concern about joining two sections that way is having it misaligned such that the junction ends up either high or low. One thing that could help is to assemble it on a flat garage floor. Also, regarding the downspout, it can also be mounted from below, avoiding having the flange above, where the water has to build up in order to get up and over it. About working the aluminum, there are "left" and "right" aviation snips that are extremely handy depending upon the direction of the curved cut. If you have a hole saw, that can help save effort, and I won't mention Clecos, used in aviation, which are invaluable for holding alignment for drilling rivet holes.

Looks great. but one question. At about 12:58 it looks like there some deformities in the back of the gutter. Did you get leaks in there?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP1011 ай бұрын
Good eye, yes don't install the gutter this way. I actually changed my instillation slightly after filming this video. That back edge of the gutter should go under the drip edge instead of being on the outside edge of the drip edge. Once you tuck it under the drip edge you won't have that deformity and no leaks along the edge of the facia.

You can just inser the sealant in seam of the end cap and then put it on the end of the K style gutter. Once it is in place use a pair of pliers to crip the metal valley of the end cap to the gutter. When you are done hanging the gutters, go back with the gutter sealant and put a thick bead on inside

Nice instructions for assembling the gutter length. However, this lacked clear instructions for actually installing the gutter to the edge of the roof. Is it just screwed into the wood? What's the best way to determine the drop/slope of the gutter? 🤔
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10Ай бұрын
Yes just screwed into the wood. IMO it only needs a slight slope toward the downspout just to keep the water from pooling in the gutter. You could google it if you want to know the proper slope according to the professionals. I just eyeballed the slope on mine.

When cutting with tin snips don’t close the snips all the way on the tip of the snip’s and you won’t have those jagged edges to file off.

Did you tuck the gutter behind the drip edge? Did your hidden screws go into the facia below the drip edge or through it? Thank you.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP102 жыл бұрын
I did where I could but I should have put less slope in the gutter so it would have been under the drip edge from end to end. The screws went in below the drip edge. Where the gutter didn't go under the drip edge I had some leaks between the back side of the gutter and the edge of the eve when it rains hard.

Thanks Kyle, yes that is exactly what I did. That way it takes the water all the way past the shed too.

Great video... but I hate those Home Depot / Lowes crap K profiles. My custom ones are in a need of replacement (2002), but the quality of the big box ones are pathetic.
