Thank you Sallie for the video, I have watched all of your videos so far, would love to see more. I started making wood signs a couple of months ago and started off using Luan board, but after watching your videos, I couldn’t wait to use the 1/2” birch plywood. I’m still working on my aim with my brad nailer. Your tip for using the edge of the table, helped a lot. I am working on having my own sign business one day soon, so I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience & tips with us.

I am loving your videos! You are so kind in sharing these how to videos to help others that may want to start selling online. I just got a cricut and am no where near ready to sell goods from that but have so many friends and coworkers that want me to start selling other craft items like my wreaths online. My biggest fear of starting that is then having to start figuring out how to claim the money made on annual taxes. Right now anything I have sold has been sold at only the cost of materials. So I really make nothing from them. I have no clue how to go about selling and claiming the sales as an income/business.

I have been doing woodwork for years, and can tell you that for the ligt use for these signs (not on a construction job sight)...go with harbor freight tools. You will spend about 1/2 to 1/3...keep your nail gun oiled after each use and it will last for years. Simple to do Tools are like everything...like cars. You can buy a Toyota Camry or a ferrari... the Toyota will get you there just as well...maybe not as flashy, but it absolutely works. When you make money...upgrade to Dewalt or Ryobi Also...the Hart brand at Walmart is excellent for circular saw, sander, drill...

I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. I’ll do some experimenting in the shop to see if there’s something that you can put on the surface before painting. If I come up with a solution I’ll let you know.

Hello Sallie, Thank you so much for sharing all the valuable information for making great signs. I am a new subscriber and looking forward to learning more from you! I do have a couple questions that I hope you can answer for me. When you make your frames, do you just attach them to the sign or do you cut a groove in the frame and slide in the plywood? Do you do anything with the corners of the sign, like cut at an angle or do you just butt them up against each other? I was looking at several signs online and it seems like there are lots of options but I'm not sure which is the easiest, cost effective, nicest-looking way----which is why I thought I'd ask you since you've done signs for a long time! One other question for now (I have more questions but don't want to take up too much of your time!!!) About a week ago, Mike and Pam Curtis left a suggestion but I'm wondering what "tempered hardboard" is. Also other than price, how is it different than the plywood you suggested? Thanks again for your great video....I'm looking forward to going back and watching all your other videos! Donna
@SimplySallie4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I attach my frames to my sign with a brad nailer, and don't do any angles, just butt them together. I do have a video on how I make my framed signs 😊 Tempered hardboard is a hard material that doesn't do well when wet. Some people make signs with it, but if you will be doing this for a business I wouldn't suggest using it to sell! The look I go for with my frames, I wouldn't be able to do with this type of material because of how thin it is.

This might be a stupid question (I didn’t know these machines existed until this evening) but is there a limit to how long the transfer is. If that makes sense. I’ve seen her making the signs and she makes quite long transfer. I’ve been looking at the cricut, can it be done on that as I’ve only seen people doing small designs?

Hi Sallie! I am loving your content! I am starting my side business this week. Actually, my Cameo 4 is arriving today. I am curious about the business side of things. Do you use quickbooks or something similar? Also, how do you track inventory? For example, you buy a 1" x 6" x 8' from Lowes. You can make three or four signs from that one piece of lumber. Does your business software convert it for you or do you use another method? I guess the same scenario applies to a roll of vinyl. One roll equals X amount of decals. I just want to make sure I get my taxes correct. I have been watching a lot of KZbin videos and your videos have been the most helpful by far! Thank you for the great content! Gary in east Tennessee.

@SimplySallie4 жыл бұрын
I think since they are all within the "home decor" theme it will be perfectly fine! I offer lots of different items. I think the only reason you'd want to do different shops was if you offered TOTALLY different things(like soap and costumes). Hope this helps!
