Hello Saul, I know you can open a tire shop man, as long as you got what it takes and the patience you can do it. Really I would say it just takes at least 6 months for a good store to start breaking even, but after that initial phase you really can start reaping the fruits of your hard work. So make sure you got enough for rent saved up, and be willing to but some 6-7 days of hard work per week, and I can guarantee you it will work out.

I use a lot of tires (new and used) for drifting. I would like to have the ability to get tires at a discounted rate (new and used) but not necessarily wanting a shop. More like an on need basis. Do you think something like this is feasible?

It really depends on how much money you want to have extra for operational purposes. You may only need $50,000 to open it, but you will need to market it, pay salaries, etc, until you can make enough business to cover your expenses. So Ideally a $100,000 - $150,000 I would say could be a good amount.

No need for certification if just working on tires, and even in auto repair, i've seen shops just hire mechanics but never confirm certification. But everyone runs their business as they please. x
