People often forget/ overlook the importance of dedicated solid state or hard drives to help take the load off the computer running the DAW and recording/ processing audio at the same time, as well as power conditioners (similar to surge protectors) that'll help cut out the noise produced by electricity itself, and protect from your system shutting down entirely in the off chance of a power outage so that you can not only save your gear, but also save your work. Both very important components for home studios in my opinion.

Absolute neophyte to recording although I have now purchased all of the components listed, most, coincidentally, the exact same brand. Very, very much enjoyed this video and if it’s in the context of your focus, would appreciate learning how to interface the Akai keyboard controller to the DAW. I found the Akai instructions (and customer support) severely lacking. Thanks for you insight and channel. Great info!!

Mixer-interfaces are worth consideration! Like the Flow8 and the Tascam Model 12 (and 16 and 24) which can interface all channels at once (not just two like many similar mixers) are also very worth considering! He's got a Model 12 on his desk there. The Flow8 definitely has the best value though

So that I can record and mix later. But my room is not sound proof. My total budget is $300. A shopkeeper told me that you cannot do recording with dynamic mic. Please tell me what should I do. Which mic and audio interface should I buy? After buying which I do not regret.

Kia Ora Kyle & all those that read and reply to comments. First time studio setup here. Trying to pick the best single mic for bass, amp cabs (bass and guitar), acoustic instruments and haha possibly singing. What are your thoughts about the Shure SM7B ? I know that you recommended the two and or one or the other. Thoughts?? Bye for now.

I think the SM7B would work well for everything you’ve listed, except acoustic guitar. I’d lean more toward a more sensitive microphone for acoustic instruments.

I think it’s important to note that your monitors are rear ported and should be on a slant because you’re bouncing said wave off the wall back in to your own face. The AX7 and their higher (staple) models are front ported so it wouldn’t matter. Slanted monitor pads and some acoustic paneling or a sound blanket would be huge. Also, an SM57 with a tube preamp arguably sounds better than a $200 akg condenser with focusrite “preamps”. You’re really buying a sound card with an interface and not preamps. You’re also showcasing DT770s which last time I bought were $230 bucks. For a $100 the Sennheiser HD280s are a steal and workhorses but Sony MDR7506 I think have a better all around sound with warmer bass, both of which beat out equivalent AKG headphones. The DT770s are good for mixing, master, and low level recording like vocals or acoustic. They aren’t isolating enough for rock drums or loud electric guitar. The HD280s are best for loud drums and guitar, the best for all trades for 100. Sony would be better for beat making and production. The DT770s are when you already have some cans. I’m saying this because you’re showing $250 headphones but an $80 keyboard. I’d say skip the MPK mini and just buy a used MPK 249 as everything about it is better including the velocity which will save you a lot of time in post. Also the DT770s NEED a headphone preamp and the Scarlett gives it just enough to work but plugging them in your laptop or phone is damaging to the speakers in the headphones as the preamp it’s powerful enough and using an under powering preamp is more damaging then an over powered preamp at lower volume

It may add a very small amount of latency, but likely an imperceptible amount. You could also use a USB-C to USB-C cable directly to the computer if you find it limiting.

I am getting ready to set up a tiny studio. I am only going to be recording my guitar/vocal as a base, then adding individual tracks of violin, viola, cello, harmonica and maybe an additional vocal. Is the 2i2 and Audacity software a good match for me? Cost is biggest factor, followed by the fact that i am a very basic musician and im doing this more for the fun of it than for serious quality. For basic stuff, it’s fine. The feel of the keys isn’t great, especially if you’re used to a piano. The drum pads feel ok, but definitely not the best out there. I think you get a lot for the money, but you can’t expect to get what you could if you spend more…
@jimwar18902 жыл бұрын
I purchased one six months ago and have mixed feelings. First and foremost the available Akai information (printed and/or online) is minimal and seems to assume you are an expert, not a beginner. There is nothing I could find explaining the actual dials and buttons and how to interface with various DAW. sent their customer service contact email several questions and it literally took months to get a reply and the response was…well…worthless. If you have experience with controllers, it’s a nice inexpensive unit. If not, stay away.
