Unless I am mistaken, I believe the first person (Clever Person) to Import, Promote and Sell a UV in the UK was a friend of mine, Peter "Waddy" Waddington. Mainly the Biotron Lamp but nevertheless a UV.

Hey Lee, great video as usual. I am really confused about the pricing of these UV clarifiers. They are essentially just a UV bulb in a plastic tube. The cost of a 13watt UV bulb(usually sold for aquarium) is about 1500 rupees(20 USD), but the cost of a UV clarifier with a 13watt bulb is about 5000 rupees(67 USD). It may not sound like much, but where I am and what I do, it's still a lot of money. Can't I just stick the UV light in a tube and seal the tube both sides and cut holes to fit the hose and call it a day? I just can't understand how that plastic casing itself would cost that much money.

Like most things the price is determined by the potential profit. Nothing to do with the production cost.

hi lee I have been having a issue with the evo 25watt uv. The o rings kept mishaping when I tighten them this caused a leak. Did I tighen them too tight maybe. I was using the supplied hosetail adapters I replaced them with the kockney koi ones as they seemed to be better quality. But leak still persisted so I used silicon on the threads that solved that leak but the pvc flexible pipe with jubilee clips was also leaking. I had to really tighten the clips very very tight to stop the leaks. I was concerned about cracking the fittings. Is this normal that the o ring may still leak water if you tighten them too tight? But then again if its too slack it will leak cant seem to win either way so in the end used silicon.

Use PTFE tape on the hosetail fitting. Thread side and on the pipe side. Gives the pipe something to sit on. You will not need to tighten the jubilee clip up much at all.

Just to clarify we need to replace the uv bulb every 6 months even though it’s emitting light? Also can you shut it off at night to save money?
@leecalladine4 жыл бұрын
Don't switch it off. It needs to be on. Yes replace it even if it emits visible light.
