Pickleball can be fun and social, especially with a friend or spouse who isn’t so adept. What seals the deal for Padel is it’s more demanding and rewarding physically, and the softer surface is easier on the joints.
@AlphaInsightsDaily4 ай бұрын
I’d disagree there. It’s a matter of the level you are playing. A lot of lower level play with alot of errors, lack of dink rallies, lack of resets, etc don’t have the aspects of physicality that the more advanced level has. It’s the same in padel. Beginner players aren’t having long rallies or using good technique so it’s way less demanding. I also have played a lot of padel and after two hours of pickleball verse padel pickleball is for sure as physically demanding. As for the softer surfaces, definitely true padel has the advantage there.

One pretty big issue that limits padel's growth vs pickleball here in the US is simply cost. Very often you can play pickleball outdoors for free. Or if you want to play regularly on outdoor courts in a town that charges out-of-towners, $150-200 a year for a pass. Indoor open play locally for me ranges from $10-20 per 2 hr session. Padel? $50 for the same amount of time, no free options. And our local padel center is the only one so far in the state (NJ) and it just opened earlier this year w/3 courts. I mean I get why they need to charge more, but so far the demand just isn't there yet.

Apparently the rules of pickleball is different over there in Australia. In America, the “two bounce rule” simply means the ball must bounce on your side before your side can hit a volley, and that is true for both sides. So the serve and the return both must be allowed to land, and it’s open after that.

As someone that almost played every racket sport there is (Started with Tennis at age 5, Badminton at 9, Squash at 13, Padle at 17 and Pickleball last year at age 26) I think all racket sport has there time and place. In my opinion nothing beats a good game of Tennis still but then like you said you need to be at equal levels for that and just like a 15% offset in skill can make it not even fun to play. But for me pickleball you can play and have fun with almost anyone and you can teach someone to play very quick while in Tennis just the serve can take months for someone to get to a level where it's not just a lay up for an avg rec player. Being from Sweden we had probably the biggest Padel boom the sport has ever seen that was great for like 2-3 years but sadly a lot of people got burnt out on it cause everyone was playing like crazy and the price gouging got to a point where courts was just not affordable at all anymore (a mid day hour on a week day goes for around 550kr and around 650kr on evenings or weekends) making it very hard to justify playing for a lot of people. The thing that a lot of pickleball courts has gotten right in the US is also the fact that you can walk up as a single or dubbel and pay a small sum of money to play in a ¨queue¨ styled tournament making it not a requirement to be 4 people to play. For example where I play pickle there is two sets of 5 courts (5 for adv and 5 for beg players) where they to the winner moves up and the loser goes out so if there is 10 duos playing and 3 in queue the 5 duos that loses goes of and the winners stacks up on 2.5 courts then the 3 in queue fills out 1.5 court and then the 2 ¨lowest¨ teams that got knocked out fills the last court and then the other 3 duos create the next queue and so on. And they try to balance the different queues by moving up someone that has been staying on in the beg queue to the adv or moving someone down that almost always loses there first game in adv queue and so one until there isn't more then 1 team more in either queue.

But as you now know playing it at a high level obviously takes skill and requires the same fundamentals that many racquet sports share. Very impressed by how quickly you guys learned to play. Only confusing thing is that he said the ball has to bounce three times before you can volley-it’s only twice: The returner has to let the serve bounce, and the serving team has to let the return bounce, and that’s it.
