Thank you so much for doing this video Steve! This literally saved tons of $$$ for me. I was able to get the stock cooler back on my FTW Hybrid after taking the EKWB block off of it. I upgraded to 1080Ti's and I didnt remember how the cooler went on. Life saver.

Are you guys going to be doing the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Waterforce tear-down?
@boatrat8 жыл бұрын
Umm... Please check your info on the alleged "pull" airflow orientation on that EVGA fan (on the graphics card shroud, not the 120mm on the radiator). On all the regular air-cooled models with the "ACX 3.0" fans, those are *back-swept blades*. This has been well-argued since the ACX 3.0 naming was introduced by EVGA. Many folks were griping because the fans *appeared* to be in pull orientation (presumably less efficient in a graphics card shroud), under the assumption that computer fan blades generally are/have been always "forward swept". They missed the part where EVGA specifically made their new generation of graphics card fans "back swept" (similar to recent developments in turbine-engine aircraft propellers), because among other things, they supposedly make less noise that way. I don't know anything about the EVGA 1080 hybrid specifically, so I could be wrong. I'm just saying it LOOKS like one of those same "ACX 3.0" fans from the air-cooled line, which would make it incomprehensible that it would be running "backwards" from how those new ones were specifically designed.
@lagrangemechanics8 жыл бұрын
I can second that. Jayztwocents said so when the ACX 3.0 was first revealed (around the time when Pascal launched around the Texas event? I think that was in a GTX 1080 video he did): those are push fans, the same as everybody else. And that actually hasn't changed from ACX 2.0: they were back-swept blades too. AIB GPU fans usually spin anti-clockwise when looking from the front.

I remember watching this video shortly after I bought mine. I still have it, and the idle temps are still around room temperature. It'd be nice to upgrade to a 3080, but that won't be happening for some time. This has me thinking about redoing the thermal paste though
@DigBipper1888 жыл бұрын
9:29 WRONG: The fan has swept blades and spins counter clockwise... it blows air onto the heatsinks and out the card's vent slots in the back of the card's shroud. it's not like a standard fan where the blades scoop the air and the direction easy to tell by looking at them.

That's one nice VRM :D
@Spherex4 жыл бұрын
Correction. You stated the fan is "inverted" and pulls air away from the VRM heatsink, it does not. It's a swept back type of fan that blows down onto the heatsink. It's an unusual design choice by EVGA. Only commenting as I'm about to do a mod on this card and replace the stock fan with a Noctua 92mm.

Does this card suffer from the VRM issue as of late since its the FTW PCB? since the heat sink is covering the VRAM. i was curious. Thanks again in advance.
@hybrid18807 жыл бұрын
I just recently got a GTX 1080 FTW Hybrid and I was wondering what kind of acoustic noises you guys heard while running this in windows as well as when running a game? Do you hear the pump? What kind of sound does the pump sound like? I would like to know since I am not sure if I hear the pump as well as a little bit of coil whine.
@DJ.10017 жыл бұрын
Just got mine the other day and was extremely upset at first. The pump made a loud hum and whine. But I had a breakthrough thanks to this video. At 10:53 he mentions that the pwm for the pump and fan are tied together. I went into EVGA Precision X and turned up the fan speed just a little bit and the hum completely went away. Turning up the pump actually makes it quieter but also makes the fan louder. Just use the slider and find a happy medium. I setup a custom fan curve so that the pump/fan runs at 65% up until the card hits 50c, at which point it slowly ramps up to 80% at 60c. This method greatly reduced sound output and brought temps down a good bit as well.
@Dpower207 жыл бұрын
Pump does 'whine' a bit. Fixable (Steve says how to in a few of his videos) but it does take a bit of effort.
@hookhandtech55676 жыл бұрын
I know, old vid, probably not commented or checked anymore. What if you took say, a 280mm radiator from an H115i and put it on this pump? Or, combined both of them in their own little custom loop with two rads? Will the pump overfeed the other? Will it be bad results? Steve, test this out sometime in future?

the fan blades on the evga board are inverted so does it blow out the big hole on the plate or suck and exhaust out the back like a blower style?
@shocking82787 жыл бұрын
I really wanna know this too. but all i could say is when you look at the top of it where the fan is and it turns counter clock wise then it will blow air to the heatsink or in short terms. act like the blower model. but if it turns clock wise then it will suck air from the heatsink and blow it out from the fan. hopefully i didn't make any mistakes here (if i did please correct me)

@GamersNexus8 жыл бұрын
Not all coldplates are flat. There is a slight, unseen curvature that accommodates the CPU IHS on CPU CLCs like the H55 used on the Sea Hawk, but this generation flattened the plate to improve conductivity with the flat GPU silicon.
