Ok. The thing with the buck controllers and their power good signal is that they almost always is an open drain output. It means the actual power good signal is an 'always on' signal drawn directly off the main supply through a high value resistor. The controller chip connects this signal to ground through am internal MOSFET that is in off state (hence the name 'open drain'). Whenever it senses the output voltage to be outside an acceptable range, the internal MOSFET is turned on, shorting the power good signal to ground and driving it low. It is done this way probably to safeguard the circuit by driving the power good low in case if the controller is damaged with an internal short circuit.

First of all, great fuckin' job dude! Very good video, I subbed and will share this on my Twitter page. I have the ftw3 version of the 1080Ti that is giving me a similar issue. I vape in my room, and the ventilation isn't the best and my PC started not wanting to post... You can see where this is going. Thankfully it was JUST the GPU that had vapour condensation on it, but it was quite a lot. long story short, I stripped the card, gave it a scrub with some isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. The strange thing is, the PC boots, and games fine, I've even got it overclocked to 2ghz and it's fine, cool and fast. However, the card will not output a signal when the card is past ~42c, the PC will boot up and I can login to Windows, but I have no signal to the monitor. Once it cools down, I get a 'VGA card not supported by UEFI driver, CSM has been enabled for compatibility'. I then go into BIOS, disable CSM and the PC boots. I've already been through a week of all of the software, bios, vbios troubleshooting you could possibly do with this thing and I'm 99% confident it's a problem with either the 1.8v 3.3v or the 5v which was the issue with this card. I don't have a multimeter and wouldn't quite how to use it if I did. Do you think heatgunning the card might help? I don't know what to do, this has been thoroughly annoying.

Very interensting, great video ... I would appreciate an advice - my friend has an issue with his GTX 980 Strix as it boots to desktop but it crashes (to a pure blue or black screen) a minute or two after entering a game (for example Lost Ark). We ordered a new PSU as we though it would solve the issue, because for a while he was able to use GPUTweak to lower GPU Power Target to 65%, underclock GPU and memory to lowest possible and he would be able to play games for hours. The new PSU (Corsair RM650 CP) did not solve the issue so we changed the thermal pad on the GPU VRM and repasted (GPU) and it did not solve the issue, but now it got worse - even with 65% power target and underclock it would crash a minute after entering a more demanding game. There is no visible damage on the card an it works with windows desktop ... I would also note an oil leak was present on the VRM the first time we opened it and we have cleaned it, so we are now wondering if the card can be repaired by a professional electronic or should we give it up?
@Mad44002 жыл бұрын
The VRM is failing and unable to keep up with the demands of the GPU. VRM's don't leak oil, what you seen was probably the effect of it getting too hot. It can be repaired, this channel has repeatedly proven that. However there may be more than just one VRM that needs replacing as suggested by the observed worsening performance. I imagine it could still be cheaper to repair than to buy a new replacement card.

The ordering in the video is slightly incorrect. You don't have the 1V rail because you don't have the GPU VRM running. You need to focus on the UP9511p phase controller on the back of the board. You'll want to check if it receives VCC (5V) which is passed through either a 2.2 ohm or 1k ohm resistor, and you'll want to check if you have EN (2V or so) which is passed through a six pin dual transistor I believe near UP9511p.

You have said that the fans are not even twitching. May I ask why? What is the significance of fans twitching? I have EVGA Geforce FTX 1080Ti that was working fine. Then I removed it from the motherboard and it sat unused for a couple of weeks. I installed it into a different motherboard and it does not work. Tried in 3 different motherboards and it will not get recognized. Upon power on, the fans twitch. That is all they will do. The lights do come on. I tested the power connectors for shorts and PCI short testing gets a beep on pins 4 and 7 which I believe is what is supposed to be. Going shopping later today for proper screwdriver set so that I can disassemble it further.
@TechCemetery3 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, the 1.8V power rail needs to power on for the fans to at least to try start running. No twitch suggests a failure at 1.8V or before. Take a resistance measurement of the 1.8V, 1V, and memory phase and let me know what they are.
