no matter what you say, I believe, this is simply another great performance of evgeny kissin... he is either you like it or not the only living pianist with that many awards, and nobody can imitate him.

Kissin has such incredible technique & polish, and is thrilling to hear, but like all pianist, some performances are better than others. This one tops his performance of the Minute Waltz in Rome on 5//30/07...not just because the recording was more of a "home-made quality", but his phrasing was odd and he sounded somewhat unprepared with what seemed to be an encore selection that he "pulled out of his hat". Even at that, his technique is STILL MAGNIFICENT! as we all know. Katheryne

Yes, I fully agree with you. Listen to him and Martha Argerich play Mozart`s sonata for two pianos in D K448 . They play this beautiful sonata at jet neck speed . When I commented on this , a person replied that I was ignorant of the term - Allegro which he said was FAST I wrote that my music dictionary gave the meaning of Allegro = sprightly, and lively.He claimed that in Mozart`s time all performers played much faster than they do today .
@t110d935 жыл бұрын
Given that youtube wasn't around 200 years ago, how do we know that performers played it much faster?

@ksm748 that's because, and i dont know why, it has become a sort of fetish amongst concert pianists to play the 'minute' valse in literally one minute (as if the minute was for time and not for size). i dont know, for them, it's like a race to see who plays it faster or finishes first. 'bloodsports' like glenn gould used to say.

@Canonindxxx I agree, this is probably one of my favorite pieces and it definitely sounds rushed

@Canonindxxx I am a Piano Player myself, I think my limits are a bit above the turkish march (which I can play now :D) and the Minute Waltz. I wouln´t be able to play it that fast, good thing I don´t wanna. But yes, it takes ALOT skill to play THAT fast. What Kissin makes one of my favorites, are his beautiful interpretions such as when to play loud when quiet etc. But I guess even he ain´t perfect as heard in this video.

@sirdelrio It is virtually impossible to play this waltz in one minute, well maybe not technically but musically the result will be a crazy mess. Actually I have never heard it played faster than around 1:30 (and still sounding good). A friend of mine has made a YT recording in 1:15, but it is made as a kind of joke I think.. :) . Music is not a sports game. It requires so much more..

Hopelessdreamer14...It's concentration & every inch of the body being immersed in the rhythm. Have you ever seen a child intently coloring or working on some project? So many children stick their tongues halfway out of their mouths & move them from side to side. That's just some instinctual part of concentration, like furrowing the brow. He's probably singing in his head with his playing & his mouth is moving along to it; alot of us musicians do.

@Joshuaf1026 a great pianist can play this piece in 1:30 and still sound less rushed. it's not all about the speed. I think Mr Kissin failed on this one. it sounds to me like a man after a marathon run trying to catch his breath... I prefer Rubinstein or Barenboim's version...
