Utterly perfect technique. Almost inhumanly perfect. He's truly amazing.

This performance makes Lang Lang's seem amatorial and ridiculous!!! I'm just speechless! Sense of humor, real "waltz beat", incredible clarity, accuracy, breathtaking technique...This is by far THE performance of this peace among the ones I know.

I agree, I heard Kissin live twice, the first time I was shocked, enamored and enchanted by his playing (he played the b flat minor intermezzo by Brahms and also a transcription of the g minor Hungarian dance no.1), the other time I was very disappointed, he played Chopin three nocturnes - f minor, g major and e major, then he played Schumann sonata f minor, then Debussy preludes and lastly Scriabin sonata no.4, it was not impressive, but rather dry and academic this time

Such délicatesse, and such beauty transmitted in each note and phrasing. It's beyond my comprehension why anyone would even put a thumbs down for this live recording. Those who put a thumbs down clearly do not play piano, and wouldn't even be able to perform like this.

Kissin is truly pioneering new frontier's with how he plays. I never knew the piano was capable of creating such music before Kissin. Not just this one, but with almost every performance is an eye-opening experience into what can done with 88 keys and a superhuman touch. You can call me biased, and yes, he is my favorite pianist, but he always brings life into music like no one else. It would be a dream come true to meet him one day.

Kissin is the only living pianist who reminds me of the former musical and technical greats like Lhevinne, Gilels, Arrau... . Only an artist on this level can perform light material with the same level of musical integrity as the most serious compositions. He is arguably the best overall pianist of the last and present generations!

Evgeny Kissin has been a very famous pianist for a long time and widely celebrated as amongst the best virtuoso pianists. Lang Lang's career has just launched and getting good. According to certain reviews, Lang Lang is widely criticized by elders for his facial expressions when he's performing, and the moving around too much. Lang Lang is also greatly admired by the youth for his unique expressions of music as well as excellent technique on the piano.

the funny thing between us dasteufelhund, is that I quite agree with you that feeling is much more important than technique as to enjoyment from a listener's perspective. However, when the two are combined, as, in my opinion, Kissin does regularly, it is magical. Even at 16, I think he did a remarkable job and I would listen to this everyday if I could.

Lang Lang is he kind of pianist that can make other pianists like Kissin jump out of the window. Here we have Kissin's excellent note-perfect rendition, but watch and listen to Lang Lang carefully to see how it looks kindergarten when he plays it.
@josemiguel9515 жыл бұрын
Sure, he is rated as one of the best. There is still some controversy, because many people don't accept this, but his technic is perfect, and he plays with the wisdom of a 60 year old man.
@111alexander11115 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no matter what people say about Lang Lang, he's still popular and has the most endorsements among other pianist of his time. Kissin's playing here is in performance style while Lang Lang on the other hand is an acrobat and more technical than Kissin, that's why Lang Lang's concerts are top rated. But they're both excellent pianist!
@Cormagh15 жыл бұрын
I'm glad we agree on that. I noticed from the interviews and stage presence that Kissin is an individualist, while Lang Lang is more a direct, free-thinking person; people like that down-to-earthness - which is what Horowitz had - even though there was plenty of reason to credit his competition over him. Since this is an obvious rivalry, it will be interesting to see if and when LL catches on in Europe.
