If a fraction of the American media would take 10 minutes out of their day to listen to a single extended interview with Putin, they'd understand his logic and where he "is coming from." He's perfectly reasonable. In fact, he is remarkably reasonable. You can tell very quickly that the man is clearly very intelligent. Very charismatic, yet still pretty somber and reserved as a world leader. If I were Russian (I am American) I would absolutely love this man. He takes no shit. And when you examine his foreign policy positions as well as his actual geopolitical moves, I must admit, he is playing the world game of chess as a master. He can see and think many steps ahead of others, and is very well reasoned and calculated. Trump should have no shame in praising him simply as a strong leader. He most definitely is a strong leader. He views on what he sees as American hostility are hard to dismiss if one thinks from his perspective.

Your assessment of Putin is entirely defensible, especially if, as you observed, _"one thinks from his perspective."_ Ah, but here's the rub. The actions of every world leader in history, both beneficial and destructive, seem sensible when their policies are viewed from their point of view. When seen through a subjective prism, even genocide can be made to seem reasonable. It is the province of historians, given time and distance from people and events, to make objective pronouncements about them. But this process can be fraught with peril inasmuch as even the most scrupulous historian is human and therefore subject to the same prejudices that color the point of view of leaders like Vladimir Putin and which can motivate heinous crimes. All of this can, of course, seem reasonable _"if one thinks from their perspective."_

We don’t really know much about the real Putin, because his image is fully controlled by Russian institutions. Politicians in the West are much more scrutinized by media. I see some people writing in Russian and from what I could understand, they're complaining a lot about Putin. I fully understand this, because a political leader has sympathizers and opponents in his country. This is normal. I'm not Russian, I'm not even alive in Russia. I know Putin only of his verbal interventions and his political positions in international diplomacy. But I admire him because he does not bend to American interests, as several Western leaders do. But I would like a Russian (not an American or English or German, please) to explain this opposition to Putin, the reasons of his opponents, there must be explanations for this. What would be the alternative leader I appreciate it. Unfortunately I do not speak and I do not read well in Russian. I can work to translate.

Putin is 'international'. He always reacts as a human being and combines the fact of being a president with the fact of being a citizen of his country ahnd of the world. Excellent. . He never speaks of friends and enemies or of the good and the evil. He speaks of our world as an entity, and that makes him a totally new quality in international political life.

Everyone in Russia insists that they all "love" Putin too. But they look pretty scared about talking to the press. So you respect a country with no free press? Oh no! That not really "telling it like it is"! With Russian news stations and newspapers completely controlled & suppressed by Putin, nobody ever sees or hears the truth. You certainly haven't!! If you want the truth, turn off biased news and switch to European news sources, like BBC News. If you aren't afraid to face the "truth", you will find that your "respect" has been misplaced.

There is one major difference between putin and most other presidents. If a president gives an interview it is usually rehearsed before, so the president knows exactly what questions will be asked and sticks with his answers to a skript (probably written by someone else). This avoids the mistake of the president saying something "wrong". Such as small things like personal thoughts that do not go along with the fabricated "perfect" image of the president, to more serious things, like acidentially sharing classified information that could expose things ....like for example who was really behind 9/11 or information about millions of german prisoners systhematicly starved to death after ww2. Putin (the way i see him) does not answer questions by a skript. He doesnt need to. Hes answers are based on simple truth with little room for things that he had to worry of exposing. Simply because there is nothing to expose. He is also not trying to look like someone perfect, he's just himself. That gives him the freedom to improvise with every answer. Something any US- president could only dream of.

He has the freedom to say and do whatever he wants because he is an autocrat that has been in power for almost 20 years now, despite that bogus tenure as the Prime Minister so he could remain in control despite overstaying his welcome in office. Politicians have to compete against one another so they need to rehearse their lines so they aren't subject to a smear campaign. Also this isn't even true because Trump is in office and he says even more outrageous shit than Putin ever has. In addition Putin should rehearse a little bit because the answer to the question concerned with the imposition of sanctions against homosexual propaganda, which Russia clearly defines as simply anything publicly showing homosexuality, was idiotic. If he is a man of the people and a benevolent dictator then that should mean all of his citizens, including the marginalized.
i agree, really hope some day people will change their view and history won't be just forgotten

Right. Putin isn't infallible, but he certainly seems to have his head screwed on straight about some things (international law as regards Syria, researching nuclear energy). Not so sure about his social policies regarding homosexuals (I also didn't get his homosexual joke; anyone?), and I heard he currently has his number 1 political opponent under house arrest. Even if your #1 political opponent deserves to be put under house arrest for some reason (other than treason because that's b.s.), it still looks really really really bad. Also, the Dima Yakovlev laws bans Americans from adopting Russians (not sure if Russians can adopt Americans or not). But, if you dig a bit further you quickly get into the whole reciprocating mess of American and Russian laws because somebody from one country did something terrible. In summary, I don't think Putin and the Russian government are perfect just as I don't think my own (American) government is. But, of course, if only the two countries decided to trade and cooperate, think of all the great things that would happen. Would there still be starving Africans? Food for thought.

There is one more anegdote. In Oliver Stone's documentary Putin Interviews, Stone watches Dr. Strangelove with Putin and later gives him BluRay of Dr. Strangelove as a gift. Putin thanks him, and leaves, only to return in 5 seconds showing him the empty BluRay box. Stone is uncomfortable, looks around for the disc that stayed in player and Putin says with a smile: Typical american gift.
