The horror genre is hit or miss for me but this movie seemed over the top in the trailers. The original movies were a good combo of funny and scary. Great review buddy

I agree, Evil Dead II is easily one of my favorite horror films, Army of Darkness is the perfect blend of comedy & horror. Sam Raimi still references Evil Dead in every single film he makes, I love it haha. Thank you mate!

Those title cards are DOPE. I'd like to think I inspired those to some degree. I'm always looking for horror films that aren't filled with tropes and cheap jump-scares. "We should stay together No we should split up... really?" lol. This video is well done, lots of great memes and references. Made me laugh a lot.

I felt that if you took the name and a few callbacks out of it , this would be just another horror movie . That's what bothered me the most . Just another movie that I'll barely remember much about in a couple weeks , unlike the originals that have stuck with me my whole life.

I see exactly what you mean. For me it had the spirit of Evil Dead in the 3rd act, but otherwise it could've just been another horror film. It lacked something that I really can't put my finger on.

Yes I thought it was forgettable. Through most of the movie I was thinking, who's is the new ash? The little girl? Nobody really stood out except the mom. And the opening and ending scenes were the only notable scenes.

Great video man! You seem to be the only reviewer who takes a nuanced approach instead of heaping unjustified praise unto this rather uninspired and underwhelming film. While I enjoyed it even less than you and had already completely forgotten about it until stumbling upon your video, I see value in the points you make, both the pros and the cons! Nice work. (Film is till a blood soaked bore with noting to say though....)

Im not a huge horror fan, i find them mostly just variations of the same 4 or 5 scripts. Saw clones, zombie clones etc. I found this movie much more entertaining as it struck me as different.

I'm a massive horror fan, and even then, Evil Dead Rise is unique compared to a lot of horror, even within the Evil Dead franchise. It's a fun watch i've visited several times since it hit digital.

@TheUninspiredReviewer What I enjoyed about it was the scale. They kept it small and personal. One family, even one floor of the building. It made it more visceral to me somehow, more "real" if that makes sense. Compared to something like WW Z (in fairness a movie I enjoyed too) where it tries to do the whole global apocalypse thing

@@stunitechAgreed, they could've easily done a world ending scenario like in Ash vs Evil Dead but keeping it localized until the very end worked massively in its favor. I've got a great list of horror films to recommend this coming halloween in my TUR's Private Stash series, and i'm sure you'll enjoy a couple that are in the same vein as Evil Dead Rise. I liked WWZ when it first came out but I saw it again recently & fell asleep halfway through haha.

No movie is ever perfect, not even Scream franchise or Halloween. That said, Evil Dead Rise has garnered over 100 million in box office and people seem to watch it.

Yeah, I enjoyed it man, didn't you hear my thoughts on the review haha. Even if no film is perfect that doesn't mean they should be shielded from criticism, even LOTR has flaws. Making money shouldn't be a representation of a film's quality. Love & Thunder made +700 million, Multiverse of Madness almost 1B, doesn't mean they're good films.

Spoiler free reviews are like fat free food. It leaves something to be desired. Also, mentioning "not unearned jumpscares" says nothing about other jumpscares. Jumpscares overall is bad and I am often thinking of giving a movie -1 per jumpscare

I agree mate, but lots of people don't like spoilers. HAHA, oh jumpscares can be good, it's just that the horror genre is plagued by bad ones. Example: a character opens a door at the beginning of a horror film & her friend jumps out with high pitched music just to say "hello" = cheap jumpscare Well built tension over the course of an entire scene ending in a jumpscare = good jumpscare. Here is a film with one of the best done jumpscares in cinema: David Lynch's Mulholland Drive

@@TheUninspiredReviewer Definitely, I pride myself in the deviancy of wanting spoilers before I go see anything due to "too many movies, too little time" and the lack of quality lately. Cheap or Earned, I really dislike jumpscares, it is like getting tickled, it's a natural response, not an amusing one. But that is also a big point for some.

@@TheUninspiredReviewer Definitely! As someone to runs an RPG game I am even more interested in picking ideas out, and far more often older movies are better at this. Jumpscare wise, I love the movie In the Mouth of Madness because despite a few jumpscares, they don't feel too much since the movie is more psychological.

Did you watch the entire review mate? If not, skip to the part where I give my personal opinion. I literally say "I had a great time watching it" & that I enjoyed the film. I try remaining objective in all my videos, a film may be objectively bad, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it.
