Thank you GourdKing! Happy you enjoyed it too. So: Hereditary is an incredible slow burn, Ari Aster's best film. Lots of rewatch value too. I'm a sucker for the mockumentary format in horror when well used so I thoroughly enjoy Lake Mungo despite some of its objective flaws. Solid performances too, with an intriguing story that doesn't really fall apart in comparison to other films that try to do the same. Ringu is simply great Japanese horror. Sadako is an incredible recent urban legend creation (like the Candyman). I actually enjoy the american adaptation, but I prefer the original. Adore Bone Tomahawk, i'm a big gore fan but woah, having it played straight for once really just made you want to puke. Entire cast was incredible & its a rare western that's really slow but has a lot going for it, with the story always diverging from what you think is gonna happen. Top tier film in my opinion. Haven't seen The VVitch or The Orphanage yet, but they've been on my radar for a while. Just haven't had time. Let the right one in is WOW! Beautiful direction, great story, loved the tension & characters, this one is just incredible through & through. Hate the american remake though, it lost what made the original so compelling. Swedish version for the win!

Nice list. You've got some good choices in there. I wouldn't have picked Antlers personally. I would have picked The Ring. Jane Doe and Trick R Treat both have Brian Cox in them, which can only be good. I've not seen Haunt, The Wailing or The Medium. I used to live in Thailand and they make a lot of good horror movies over their. They're almost up there with South Korea.

Thanks Melvin, yeah when I make the top 10 lists for genres I always try not only keeping away from the most known films, but also try putting as much diversity as possible through the sub-genres. A taste for everyone. Oh man, you should check out The Medium for a good horror film & most of all The Wailing for a bloody great film in general. Southeast Asian horror is giving us interesting well directed films of late. Looking forward to watching Thailand's new Godzilla/Horror monster flick called The Lake.

Mimic is a bloody good film. The scariest film I've ever seen is the original Japanese Ring. I can only watch it during the day. Ha ha.

Mimic doesn't get the recognition it deserves! If you think Ringu is scary, the final 2 picks of the list will wipe the color off your face. Specially number 1

Actually check it out, it's not woke in any way shape or form, just a great film with a smartly written script. Give it a try, acting is great all around.

@@TheUninspiredReviewer I watched it (for free and mostly on fast forward.) I was right. The premise is basically guys are bad abusers and chicks are eternal victims and need to stick together. And it seems to support the me too movement.

@@kaczan3 Well i'd agree with you if the people weren't actual characters and it's a bit more complex than that. But I do see where you're coming from. You should check out RedLetterMedia's coverage on the film, they go more in depth on the themes presented and maybe it'll make you see the film as something more. But, I do see what you mean.

Interesting list! While I love Barbarian, The Wailing and The Ritual, I have to disagree on some parts. Jane Doe is criminally OVERrated imo and The Haunt is absolute garbage with no tension, nothing to say and underwhelming killers whose motives we never learn. Also, I really DID enjoy the Candyman remake in its own right. Will check out Mimic and The Medium, they sound intriguing.

Do keep in mind, these are subjective lists, but I always try to put lesser known gems I love (you'll never see The Exorcist, The Conjuring, Texas Chainsaw, Jaws, etc. on my lists). It's weird you say that because I have actually never met anyone apart from a few close friends even talk about Jane Doe, which I think is a pretty good film for what it does. Haunt is really that sleazy slasher type of film, so I completely understand you calling it absolute garbage hahaha. I couldn't get behind the Candyman remake, it had great cinematography & incredible visuals when it came to the killings, but man, that was it. I was asleep half of the time, which sucks even more when compared to the original 1992 film. You should! Mimic is a great underrated creature feature & The Medium is quite fascinating and nails a lot of the found footage & exorcism tropes but just makes them better.
