In the widow story, Phil treated V (edit: not Clara like I orignially said) like a possession, not like a person with their own feelings. 'You don't have a man anymore so give me some of that. What do you mean "no"? You can't say no. I've chosen you and since no other man is claiming you, you have no right to turn me down. It's first come, first serve." Uck. I bet Phil keeps telling his guy friends what a Nice Guy™he is and that women won't give him a chance (self-centered misogynistic creep). Lou should be looked at sideways now too. If he has friends like Phil, what's going on in HIS head?
@kaylee65845 ай бұрын
I would put money on Lou knowing full well this is what Phil was like, and just playing dumb like he didn't. Phil's his friend, and he brought him into the game. Maybe I'm reaching a little too far, but Lou could have been encouraging him to keep trying to get with V outside of sessions.
@JoshtheOverlander5 ай бұрын
@@kaylee6584 Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Sometimes we meet people who seem fine. Maybe not the best people, but they're overall okay to be around. For all we know, Lou genuinely didn't know Phil was a psycho creep, it's not like any one person knows everything about the people around them.

That first convention story is so easy to fix. Just have the demon come back later with anti-invisibilty preparations and ambush the party to retrieve the amulet. Let them have a few in-game hours to enjoy how they humiliated a demon, before you teach them the lesson that making an enemy of a demon is actually kind of a bad idea. Now the game can continue as normal, except now the PCs have the demon as their personal nemesis.
@viennasavage91105 ай бұрын
How do you do that without it feeling like you were punishing their creativity though? I know if I was them I'd definitely be feeling like I was just railroaded/punish for finding unplanned solutions.
@AlteredNova045 ай бұрын
@viennasavage9110 I don't think it counts as railroading to have the powerful demon hunting for the plot amulet, keep hunting for the amulet when the PCs steal it. That's just logically what would happen next. It would be more immersion breaking to have the demon just give up, and the players never face any consequences for their actions. If the players do still get upset by that though, just politely explain that the campaign plot is dependent on the demon getting that amulet, and if they want to play the module the DM prepared then they'll just have to agree to at least attempt to willingly follow the same direction as the rails.
@viennasavage91105 ай бұрын
@AlteredNova04 I agree that the Demon simply returning to try again later makes sense and isn't railroady, I'm talking about the Demon somehow knowing that invisibility magic was even used and the idea that you're "teaching the players" not to mess with a Demon. What are they supposed to do? Sit down and go back to drinking for the rest of the campaign? There's no "go" bell for when they should take action when they're playing characters with free will. Sure, there's a caveat where they have to be ready for adventure when DNDing, but it's completely reasonable to simply resist a Demon waltzing in and causing trouble. Because lord knows if one of the *players* did what the Demon did, *they'd* get punished by the clerk randomly being a level 20 sorcerer or something. This just definitely accounts for railroading that feels bad. Being forced to be a bystander with *none* of the benefits of actually being one because now you have to go after it anyways to help the innkeeper or whatever just already sets an iffy tone.

Convention D&D Story. That first DM kills me. So what if the Party or a particular Player pulls something off. If the Thingamajig is trivial, the bad guys won't care that much. If it is important to their plans, the bad guys will just try again once they figure out it they didn't actually get it. As a DM you can't worry about the specifics. Instead give the minions, henchmen, and BBEG's Goals. Things they must accomplish to further their plans or their Boss's plans. The How should only matter in a general manner such as a Noble lord needing to acquire the McGuffin, but must keep it a secret that they are acquiring it or have acquired it.

We literally aint people to them, so its ok for them to express irritation when a woman just donst allow them to straight up use her as a living flesh light. It dosnt make me *happy*, but it IS somewhat refreshing and vindicating to see better adjusted men getting to experience that 'cup of icey water down the back with no warning' feeling for the first time when they are forced to see it in action, happening to someone they care about. Its a feeling that you never *quite* get used to as a woman when creepy mysogynists start their crap, but at least it looses its shock value. After the first 10 or 20 times.

That absolute waste of carbon! Can't blame OP for not immediately picking up on this; who could possibly have seen THAT coming? Story 2: Communication is key. New rules need discussion. Story 3: It's convenient when the trash takes itself out. Story 4: Good question Doge! Why did he start by passing around the hentai coins? To gauge reactions and to desensitize the minor toward sexual themes; it's part of predatory "grooming." Unless there is a strong negative reaction from the other adults that Creeper can't convincingly dismiss as being "puritanical" or whatever, the minor is given the impression that this kind of thing is normal and okay. It was a very calculated move. Bailing and dropping a tip with the police was absolutely the right move for OP; Creepy McGroomer will absolutely escalate if given the chance. Story 5: That second group sounded amazing! Way to end on a glory story! "SMALL DRAGON OPEN DOOR!" XD

There's like, a billion different ways to have countered that. "You grab the amulet and successfully get away without being noticed. Pocket bag of holding anyone? "Your mage hand grabs the chain of the amulet and attempts to pull it out of its pockets but... It's stuck. You gather the amulet weighs more than 10 pounds. But now the beast's attention is at its pocket where it feels a tugging sensation." "Your mage hand successfully slips into his pocket but then the moment it touches the amulet, poof. Your mage hand just disappears."

Story #1 - To call Phil garbage is a gross insult to garbage. Story #2 - The nerf was heavy-handed and likely unnecessary. Unless that Character was using Ghod-like powers or something, just one good session was not sufficient justification for nerfing. Basically re-writing the rules, to penalize specific Characters previously OKed by the DM, is good reason to just walk and not come back. Story #3 - That Guy should have been kicked much earlier. The Meta-gaming was bad enough, but his repeated selfish screwing over of the rest of the group made him intolerable. Story #4 - Yep, I'd report this guy. Totally. Story #5 - Convention games are very much a random thing, as we see here. Second game sounded awesome. :)

Slight nickpick, in the last horror story (not the funny one), truesight isn't blindsight, it doesn't just tell you where things are. The "only" thing it does is let you see through magic/illusions, so it may have seen through the invisibility, but simply being behind cover or any type of visual obscuring can't be seen through (true sight cannot see through fog cloud, for instance). Blindsight would negate this, though.

You could have it walk out and describe how with a sense of pride and accomplishment it reachs into it's pocket as if to admire the ring it just took... only to turn around with fury in it's eyes. At that point you have so many more interesting ways to back rogue into a corner, one that just came to mind is it has some innate ability to sense magic, and the rogues invisibility spell unfortunately serves only to highlight them more clearly upon further observation. This means that if the rogue encounters them again they will be challenged to sneak around them without using magic until they intend to strike or are in position to execute a getaway plan. This was just me spitballing and going with the coolest thing I could think of in the span of half a minute and then extrapolating the fun consequences from there.

Making someone roll stealth when they have invisibility on is INSANITY
@christurner57914 ай бұрын
Invisible An invisible creature is impossible to see without the aid of magic or a special sense. For the purpose of hiding, the creature is heavily obscured. The creature’s location can be detected by any noise it makes or any tracks it leaves. It does give you "Obscured" though but it actually does require a stealth check. But you can still be heard/tracked as stated by Jeremy Crawford. So fair warning if the DM ask for a stealth check while invisible that is actually within the rules! Also mage hand is a vocal spell so you have to shout some magic words. (Except use of subtle spell) (I think arcane trickers mage hand is special though so that may be different but a regular mage hand can be heard.) I do rule that if you use invisible you get advantage though (Though that is homebrew technically speaking)

What about the version of the same story from the victim's perspective?

I'm actually gonna be mad if we ever get an update to that one story saying they didn't go to the police... he works at a school and is OPENLY talking about that shit... I don't care how they take out the trash, as long as he's either not stealing oxygen from the rest of us or is in a cell... but I dealt with seeing to much of that shit when I was in school... you cut out the tumor however neccesary. If he's that open about it people know, the cops might even have some idea... and as much as I don't like them they at least tend to not care when accidents happen to known kiddie creepers. The fact he has a kid he seems to be trying to do this shit with is even fucking worse, if the OP doesn't do something to intervene on her behalf he wont be able to sleep soundly for the rest of his life and it'll be deserved.
