I inherited my grandfather's 63. Now my kids use it. Amazing. He would love that. I gave it good going over and it runs smooth. 24:1 oil for the 63. They changed to 50:1 in 64. All the same part numbers between 63 and 64. Try to find a running 64.

There are still a lot of tnose vintage OMCs around so a detailed video on putting all those washers and things back unto the drive shaft before fitting the head back will be appreciated and for sure saved in many UTUBE libraries. Regards !

The 1963 5.5 hp Evinrude has bearings and liners instead of the old brass bushings, so I think 50:1 oil fuel mixture would be correct. Put me in the draw for the super clean shirt as well. Thanks. All the best on your recovery.

I got a Gale buccaneer 1961 5 hp the bottom cowl is so deep you have to pull off the power head anyway plus the water pump is that way I seen getting the bugs out crazy 👍🏻🤘🏻

The latest freebie I got is a fisherman and if I remember right since it's been a while is an 83 6hp? it's handle is busted too, and someone put something on so they could shift it. I plan on replacing it with an original but not sure if the powerhead will have to come off? I guess I'll find out whenever I get to it? maybe this winter in the shop.

That is a beautiful find indeed! Love these engines. Not sure if this one has the bronze rod bushings or the needle bearings, will look it up. OK, the 63 models had needle bearings on the rods, so 24:1 is just fine for this engine. Having to pull the powerhead to do the pump is kind of a mixed blessing. Not difficult to do at all, provided it is a fresh water engine and the bolts aren't stuck. Having the powerhead off really makes gearcase installation simpler than trying to sneak inside there and get at that hidden shift rod connector. Pulling the powerhead also gives the great opportunity to check that lower seal set up and replace the oring and gasket, which is so importnat on these engines. These were some of the best, most reliable engines produced by anyone, and I would put their low speed performance up against any of today's four strokes as well. So sorry about the shift handle. Would you like me to look for one? I have several for the 6hp engines, but the one for this engine is slightly different. Let me know, Don

I got sick like that one time. Doc said it was from eating refrozen chicken. Glad you're feeling better. When you put the power head back on is a gasket required or can you substitute with a silicone sealer? Take care

No Chems Just soap, My cleaner holds a Gallon.5 I use 1/4 or so of Dawn x 4 Blue, & a cup of Simple green to the water. Works fantastic. cheers kb
