This video was extremely helpful, just cleaned my carb and reassembled. Without this video would’ve had no idea how to do it. My carb was slightly different with a fuel line inside the carb. Discovered that was my problem when I seen the whole in it. Needless to say swapped the fuel lines and proceeded to finish cleaning and put carb back together. Went from 20-30 pull starts and bogging out constantly to 4 pull starts and running great. Thank you for the video

For those that don’t want to remove the throttle to remove the carb. It’s much easier to remove the recoil starter by removing the center bolt. Then you have easy access to the carb mounting nuts.

Check the throttle restrictor on the left side of the motor. When you switch to gear it must release full rotation on the magneto plate controlled by the throttle. Lubricate all linkages from handle to magneto including magneto plate plastic bearing. Thanks for subscribe to my channel!

Slowly turn to the right the needle. At the end be careful don't force it. Then turn to the left one and half turns. Start the motor and slowly turn to the right to the moment when motor start sneezing. Then turn it very little to the left to the moment when the motor stop sneezing.

From the beginning of 60's to the end of 70's pretty much all motors up to 20HP have an original factory installed cork floater. I replaced them with a plastic one, because with the time the resin over the cork starts to peel and can clog the carburetor jets.

What do I do if the tip of the needle is stuck inside of the carb ? I unscrewed the throttle adjustment screw at the top of the carb and the needle tip stayed inside

Realistically, this carburetor is beyond repair. I had the same situation a long time ago. With the thinnest bit possible, I drilled the tip of the needle into the carburetor. I sharpened the idle speed needle and the engine runs perfectly. I may have managed to fix it by accident... I don't know of anyone else doing something like this...

@@BoatMotors I somehow got it to come out . I took the smallest drill bit I had , stuck it beside it and used my drill to slowly to just continuously go around the tip . It eventually fell out and I didn’t leave a mark . But now I have the 2 pieces , and my motor will not run at idle . I can start it when it’s in forward drive and run it but as soon as I let off it dies . Is it due to this needle ?

The driveshaft turns anytime the motor is running. Since the impeller is keyed to the driveshaft , it also must turn, if it didn’t your motor would overheat if run in neutral. There are two gears,which face each other in the bottom bullet. The shift mechanism simply engages the pinion gear, (driven by the bottom spline on the driveshaft) with one of the bottom gears. 160-140 Is new, 140-120 is used in good shape, 120-100 is still usable but much reduced proformance. And anything under 100 is bad.

Well, I learned a couple tricks. But, old shakey hands ... I'll still keep removing the starter first. Even then, I put a rag below to catch the nut I drop for the 4th time ... heh heh.
