That's one museum I'd visit a few times. Always thought Qanba dragon is a very good looking stick! The Dreamcast stick the green goblin was the very first arcade stick I got to play with. Thanks a ton for this video!

loving how this has an in-depth history of arcade sticks old and new here! I am quite curious as to why sticks like the MayFlash F300/F500 and the MadCatz EGO/Gamesir C2 didn't make it, though.

The Hyperstick is one of my favorites in my collection, and still sees regular play from me. The button layout is actually one of my favorites; it gives me more space between my hands, and I don't have to reach as far to get to the L1/L2 buttons. Plus, it's great to remap the top row for Neogeo classics.

Sorry! I know, wrong place to ask; but I was watching The Electric Underground's guide to learning Tekken 8, & he mentioned that Virtua Fighter teaches you about frames & it's very frame dependent. Is that true? Is Virtua Fighter really a good franchise to learn frame advantages/disadvantages & does it really require that much knowledge of frames ???
@SaintChanchai
@SaintChanchai 2 ай бұрын
@@sneharashmi7553 great question, I plan to give a detailed answer but after I take care of kids and family stuff. I love The Electric Underground’s content too! My answer is going to be a kind of and it’ll compare/contrast VF (which I know a lot about) and Tekken 8 (which I know a little about). But I’ll try to talk about the experience of a player learning them and why they may feel locked in one and maybe in the wide open Wild West in the other and how that is guided by frames 🙏🏼 (though also how one can play with a broad idea of the frames).
@SaintChanchai

@@sneharashmi7553 okay, did a lot of Daddy Duties so now I can reply! It is always good to ask and I’m always happy to answer! You can play either Tekken or VF without understanding frames. But understanding frames can help make better sense of what works and doesn’t and help you find better answers a little faster. That said… Tekken 8 and VF are a little different in how strictly you should respect these frames. This is because of how the core mixups in the game dominate or evolve. You can play Tekken 8 without knowing frames, but you would need a very good memory of what works and does not in each situation. Frames could help explain it to you much faster and quickly explain why many options were terrible in a situation. In Tekken, the gameplay IS VERY TIGHT in this regard and if you feel like there’s usually mainly only like 2 maybe 3 possibly good things to do in a situation then you are probably right and these things are usually enforced by the frames unless a risky crush option is involved. Tekken has a very strict relationship with the frames and I would say that to improve in the game requires you to either memorize how situations look or knowing the frames in those situations. Eventually Tekken does open up a little as both players prove they know the good answers, then they can go beyond those and get more creative but they can easily get punished if one player pulls it back to the strongest answers. In Virtua Fighter, understanding frames helps you understand how to mostly attack and defend well and also where to force mixups-but beyond the frames the core of Virtua fighter is a Rock Paper Scissor Game. That RPS Game is DEFENSE (Rock) > ATTACK (Scissors) > THROW (Paper). This works in VF because the throws in VF are really powerful and defeating throws requires some guessing ability. The frames matter a lot when players choose similar options but this paper rock scissor aspect is at the core of how situations are won. If I have good defense in VF, my opponent’s throws can kill me. If my opponent goes for throwing too much or too predictably, I can launch them into a combo. If I attack too much, my opponent’s defense will give them better options than me so they will be stronger. If my opponent defends too much or too predictably, my throws will make them hurt for defending me. The frames still matter a lot but they come in second to the Rock Paper Scissors. Understanding frames helps me understand when I can better attack even when my opponent chooses to attack. The frames help me understand how to play safer or gamble more. And Virtua Fighter lets me play very safe as well as very risky with higher reward. The general frame structure of VF is: - If I am successful at hitting/throwing/blocking, then I probably have an advantage, so then attack or throw are good options now. - If I fail at attack/throw/defend, then I probably am at a disadvantage which means that attack and throw are really risky options so I should usually defend… but if I think the opponent is going to try to throw me, then that’s when I’ll attack instead of defend. In VF, this RPS + Frames make for very intense interactive play that’s really rewarding and fast paced. In Tekken 8, I’m mostly mixing up with mid attacks and low attacks but high attacks are good because speed is very strong in Tekken. I should know frames in Tekken 8 move by move because if I don’t, it’s hard to use my good moves and I’ll be locked into my opponent’s advantage until I die. Also, throws are generally weak in Tekken so it’s really important to disrupt my opponent’s high guard, low guard, and fast attacks. And I should memorize more and more moves because I need to know when I’m allowed to do stronger attacks and the frame data will make that make sense for me.

@@SaintChanchai Thank you for taking the time from your demanding schedule to explain it to an aspiring Virtua Fighter enthusiast. I've bugged you numerous times in the past & you've always been kind. When you explained about the RPS being fundamental, I was thinking; is there a section in Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution tutorial which specifically explains about the RPS mechanic of this franchise? I tried looking up for videos but couldn't find it. Any such tutorial section in Final Showdown ???
@SaintChanchai
@SaintChanchai 2 ай бұрын
@@sneharashmi7553 the tutorials in both games explain it, but as a player is learning this concept is very easy to take for granted and the deeper reason for being fundamental to the gameplay is in deeper application. It makes more sense on day 100 than on Day 1 🙏🏼 The VF tutorials do explain that when your opponent is guarding or will evade, a throw will best it. The VF tutorial also explains that an attack will beat a throw in VF. These are simple details and they seem fine at first. But where they become fundamental in how you fight is that throwing in Virtua Fighter is very damaging and it is a good way to assault the opponent’s decision to guard or evade. However, the most natural first steps to control a situation in a fighting game is to use attack pressure and spacing and to guard attacks. So this is where players naturally start and playing in this way is the easier way to play at first. Because beginners attack more often than not, the rock paper scissors game against a beginner is lopsided. You beat a beginner with frame advantage by defending them or hitting them and then use that advantage to punish their habit of attacking too much. The full rock paper scissors game will not happen until they become afraid to attack too much and start guarding more. This is also why the rock paper scissors takes more time to learn. Finally, the reason the RPS is vital in VF but takes a different form in Tekken is that in Tekken, throwing is way weaker than in VF. It does less damage, does not always best stepping, and stronger opponents can escape it on reflex (in VF, escaping a throw requires guessing). If Tekken throws were much stronger and harder to escape, then the mixup would emphasize them more 🙏🏼 That said, Tekken creates a nice tension almost automatically where mistakes in offense get punished severely and immediately with counter offense. The attack speeds and standing nature of fast attacks encourage you to use high attacks for their speed but high attacks can get ducked and punished. Low attacks can disrupt normal defense and the mods are strong but you need the advantage of a hit, an opponent’s whiff, or an opponents patience to inject the mid into the fight.

@@SaintChanchai Damn! That was swift! Thank you. And please, family first, and then tend to attend people like us. I felt a little guilty bugging you while you were being Guile. PS:- In your last paragraph, I guess it was a typing error. High attacks get 'f'ucked and punished? I guess you wanted to type ducked and punished! Ha Ha Ha !!! The Neo Geo system debuted for $699 and the games started at $299/each. So not quite as "affordable" as a PS5 and especially not the games (or any other console for matter. yet anyway.....)

that killer instinct sticks sucks almost as much as the game reboot . put all the trash killer instinct reboot art all over it to make it extra ugly. no wonder why madcatz is dead.

That wasn't a Mad Catz stick, that one was Razer. And yeah, you have to take Razer products with a grain of salt, unfortunately. Mad Catz DID make a KI edition TE2 stick that released for Xbox One, and it was decent, but I hated that it had a proprietary USB cable. If it broke, you had to order a replacement directly from Mad Catz. As far as the KI reboot is concerned, it's a fantastic fighter that deserves way more than its fair share of praise.
