Evoking a Spirit with a Black Mirror (Full Tutorial) [Esoteric Saturdays]

Evoking spirits to appear in magic mirrors is one of the staples of the grimoiric tradition that is easy to reproduce with the flavour of any tradition.
In this third installment in the series of Foolish Fish tutorials, I give you the ingredients necessary to make your own successful evokation.

I have a 14 in obsidian mirror for scrying however, I've had best results with my iPad's black surface. It has perfect reflecting qualities that even the obsidian does not.

A tip that rarely found mentioned is to use some kind of white noise to fill the room. In my experience it create the same effect on the ears as the black mirror on the eyes. I used an old heater on fan mode that I put in a corner of the room. The echo of the repetitive sound helps remove external noises, and get into trance for clairaudience. I also use a connected led bulb where I can choose the color and the intensity, like Phillips hue. I found it more effective that color candles. Very non traditional :)

I've always used white noise. There's one on youtube called celestial noise or something, and I have used it so many times. I find it makes my trances so much more powerful, and my experiences so much more 'solid' for want of a better word. I tried the Grant Morrison approach of albums and so on a couple of times and found that the journey of the musicians didn't synchronise very well with my magical objectives, my first encounter with demons came through this very experiment actually. Nowadays I'm back with white noise or occasionally Phillip Glass on repeat. You're totally right about the clairaudience by the way. Thanks for reminding me why I use it!

I make Black mirrors for less than $10. Get a cheap picture frame and rust oleum camouflage black spray paint. Take apart the frame. Spray paint one side of the glass. Multiple layers of paint. When you reassemble the frame put the painted side of the glass inside the frame, shiny clean side outs. Be very delicate, putting it back together can scratch the paint sometimes. This simulated obsidian so well because that specific spray paint is super matte. Suppose to be completely non reflective.

got to your disclaimer, and wanted to say that I totally agree. My magical practical practice totally annihilated my previous life. I'd go as far as to say "I died, but I was lucky enough to survive". Dangerous indeed, but incredibly powerful, and in my case, beneficial. ETA My pilgrimage to Dee's black MIrror, and then one of his journals were the collective beginning of my post "adolescant" magical journey, having had resisted the call to action for too long. I've had plenty of darkest hours since, and slain many a dragon, but those visits, and experiences of their power have acted as my inciting incident ever since. ETA2 finished the video, thanks ever so much. I have used this sort of structire on most of my magical rituals, and I completely agree with the final point. I always prepare two glasses of wine or tea, or small snacks and invite the spirit to stay and enjoy them with me for a while (this works especially well for me because I normally use Hellenic deities and so on for my work so I can use Xenia custom), then after a sensible amount of time (which varies depending on my purpose) I ask them to depart in conviviality. Like all guests, I've had to use varying degrees of willpower to ask some of them to leave. Once or twice I needed to tell them. "Pleaze, I have to ask you top go so I can tidy up in time for..., I told you when you first came round that..."

Thanks for making a scrying video Denis! 😍 One practical thing I've found with scrying is using an "invoking spirit" incense worked well for me. However, I found that burning it really bothers my sensitive eyes. Instead I use a wax warmer filled with water and/or carrier oil then put the loose incense in there during my session. I figured if the spirit likes the smell, this gets the job done without burning anything.

Quantum computers use mirrors for beam splitting. That's how entanglement is created. It's possible to create a holographic 3 dimensional state in 2 dimensions, a lower- dimensional phase. Quantum teleportation involves the use of entangled particles. In this phenomenon, two particles become entangled, meaning their properties are intrinsically linked regardless of the distance between them. When a third particle, which is not entangled with the other two, is measured or manipulated, its state can be "teleported" to the entangled particles. You in fact as the practitioner, are the catalyst that transmits flow in the direction of your intended goal. Great advice! I'm so glad that you mentioned singing as a means to entering altered/trance states! I don't think I've ever heard anyone outside of shamanic circles talk about the potential of singing but, in my experience, it is the fastest and surest way to intentionally enter an altered state. I've even had extremely powerful and visionary experiences just from singing but it's also my favorite way to prepare for a ritual.

you might still be able to see with a regular mirror, is what a lot of people don't realize. I've had a few times in my life locked eyes with my own reflection in the mirror and seen something other than myself there. Although I can count in one hand how many times this has happened, I think you can still see things in any mirror if you have the intention to do it.

I have inadvertently used my turned off television a couple of times. While I've been at home at my computer my television is next to my screen just off to the side, acting as a dark mirror of the whole room behind me. I've seen my patron deity standing in the room behind me quite clearly in my peripheral vision. It's always been quite shocking but it's pretty fantastic.

Thanks for sharing! One thing that works really well, for me, for creating low ambient lighting is my Himalayan Salt Lamp. It already has translucent texture to it, but also comes with a dimming switch! Anyone else who has one (or is interested in one) may consider using it for this!

I am of a slightly different opinion on one point (refereing to JSK, Trithemius, Afro-Carribean traditions): Traditionally the four quarters in scrying was related to the four (Demon) Kings; Oriens, Amaymon, Paymon, Egin. This is less about keeping oneself safe and more to do with opening up the space. This is carried on in the practice of Crossroads workings or in the VeVes in Voudon. It is about opening the gate.

@@akeem_arif384 start with understanding first why you want to do this. Learn a way to center and ground yourself. Learn to listen to the eb and flow of your own intuition without drowning it in self talk. Learn to be silent and listen. That is the start. There will be many names for spirits. They are mostly moral judgements. Let it go to communication and relationship while you make up your own mind about what's "good" or "bad". It's all relative. When you are doing rituals don't try to be perfect rather find your flow in it. It's better to stay in the flow than to be perfect. there is no "one way" of doing rituals. Stay true and honest to your self and your spirit and in your spirit you will find a world of spirit willing to connect with you. Be open to expirience whatever may come in ritual and be prepared to break a ritual or ground yourself to create boundaries for your self. Honor your own spirit. Peace.

Meditative state is something a person must have if one want to become a successful magician.I have been reading esoteric materials for past 3 years and I am pretty sure now that if you can not control your mind you can not have a control your presence in the spiritual realm(which will make your evocation dilusional,even a simple magick wont manifest).Mind expansion technique or any meditation(like Pranayam along with Om Chanting)should be a must in your daily life so that you can learn how to control your mind or your astral self to better manifest your magickal result. We turned off our smart TV and immediately saw an old school Grey alien face that faded backwards into nothing. We screamed,and verified to each other what we saw. It only happened once, and it occurred when we were having other supernatural activities in our home. The room was pitch black dark, and the luminescent face was slightly dull, but highly detailed. This is a great and very informative video. Thank you so much for sharing. I have used a crystal ball, and I have found that to be very effective. I have a dedicated space that I work in. My scrying ritual begins with the cabalistic cross. Next, I perform the Middle Pillar Exercise. I only begin scrying after completing this exercise. I always keep a journal of my scrying experiences. Once I am done, I cover my crystal ball with black silk and put it away. I also complete the session by using the cabalistic cross again to close out the session.

Use of white noise is a great tool!! Just like the comment below suggests. I use a fan during rituals involving vibrations of divine names as the noise of the fan mends with my voice to create a greater, clearer vibration.

One time I was evoking a spirit from The Arte Goetia, I can't remember which one, but I do remember the image that appeared was nothing like its description at all, it was a wolf's head and it snarled at me! 👍🏽Nice Video 🖤 I built a dark mirror for my self by using a nice vintage picture frame and a black picture that I put behind the glass. I've also found that you can add some things like "magical" plants, written verse, pages of a magic manuscript, or anything else that can help you to get the result you want, to the inside of the frame. I sealed the back of the frame with a wax seal in the shape of a sigli for better results and protection.

Thank you for posting these tutorials. They're a great place to start for learning new techniques. I'll have to give this a try. You also gave my some interesting things to think about: After having giving it a lot of thought, and having a few experiences with spirits myself, I'd say that it isn't inaccurate to say that spirits are "all in your head". Then again, who's to say we're not all in their heads as well, or that we're not both in the head of a much greater being? It's not inaccurate, but I just don't think it's the whole picture. It's my belief that the human mind/imagination is merely the shallow tidal pool between the rich continent of the material word and the vast ocean of the spirit world. Sometimes things from that deep ocean swim into or get swept into those shallow waters and we get a chance to see them. Sometimes we have to throw some gifts into the water and call their names to attract their attention.

The breathing reminded me of a story I have no one to share with so I’ll tell it here. When I was about 13, I lost a thin paper back book. I wanted to use it but had no idea where it might be. I decided to look for it in the living room. But my dad had been cooking his seafood dish I detested the smell of, so I’d already been holding my breath and not inhaling through my nose. As I left my room, and the smell was obviously stronger, my breathing became lessened and I was clearly in a state at which point, to the confusion of my mother and brother, I hastened directly to the couch and threw the cushions off revealing my lost book. I myself was confused and surprised as I hadn’t consciously decided to look there.

I've Incorporated one other aspect to my scrying sessions. A stiff dose of psilocybin mushrooms seems to really make the thing come to life.you open yourself up to perceive sooooo much more and it can be terrifying to a level people can't grasp. Take caution and be careful everyone

Sadly or maybe luckily I lack the ability to perceive "spirits" - I've used black mirrors for divination, but not tried to summon some random spirit. Contemplating how many humans have passed in history we must be just thick with spirits all around us. So, maybe my lack of perception is a gift.

I wonder what we are doing wrong. I always thought that the spirits didn't like us or something so they didn't want to open their doors whenever we knocked. Speaking for myself I'm blind not completely blind but legally blind. I speak everything into my phone and my phone reads whatever I touch on the screen. Please excuse me for any typos. I think we all have our own unique abilities and we just have to find them. @Neil yes I definitely have but I assume that this is a sign from the universe that I should get back to it. I'm not completely blind but my phone reads everything to me and I speak into it to be able to communicate with people. As far as performing magic what could I do? I want to communicate with Spirits. I want that mysticism. Something about it deep in my soul I've always been in love with mysticism and shamanism. Dreams don't ever seem to work for me unless I just can't see spiritual science even in my dreams. Even in the real world I can't tell if a spirit is sending me a true sign or if it just pops up on a KZbin algorithm coincidentally because I have surged in the past. I love Magic and I love occultism in witchcraft but even something like doing sigil magic doesn't really work for me because I can't read my handwriting LOL if you were blind or all of a sudden lost your vision and you wanted to practice what would you do? If I do these meditations again that you mentioned does that mean the spirit can speak through Me By Me Feeling Energies? From what you're saying it sounds to me like I should be able to channel and feel energies Within Myself by evocation and invocation

for as long as i can remember i've practiced a form of glossolalia as a way to gather focus. once you get good at it, it can reeeaaallly put your conscious mind in the backseat in a hurry. i both chant and sing it, and i try to add as many "weird" vocal sounds that aren't normally included in my own native tongue as i can, like heavily rolled r's or fricatives.

Very efficient synthesis, so much so that it is even possible to move on to practical experiment using the instructions provided here. Didactics is a skill that can be trained proficiently, but some people seem to have it as kind of an innate skill. This is, it seems, the case here.

A little personal musing on this subject: according to some cosmogonic theories shared by the main systems of Western esoterism, all elements of the material world are manifested in some way by hierarchical types and categories of generally invisible and intangible beings. Therefore, absolutely all processes of creation and transformation of matter would be mediated by “supraphysical” entities. Thus, it is not surprising that even the black screen of an electronic device such as a smartphone or tablet can work well for scrying, as long as the known protocols for the operation are followed. To put it another way, from the standpoint of the creative forces of the Cosmos there is nothing intrinsically diverse and relevant between a posh, fancy and well-polished obsidian mirror and the smooth, reflective, and deeply black surface of a tablet, for example. Perhaps the only drawback is the psychological motivation that one might have using one or the other. For example, I personally cannot bring myself to using a tablet (but, hey!, this is only me after all).

I have a few prai amulets (ghost amulets, basically. thai animist magic is still pretty prevalent and is mostly necromantic w Buddhism as a metaphysical framework) and two I have in particular never stop surprising me (falling asleep wearing them is a very reliable way to get sleep paralysis, which i hadn't had since middle school) Afaik they don't have a scrying tradition but now I'm thinking about trying this. I have a photo of the person its for, so it'd be easy to tell. But i also can't help but think this might be a bad idea to change the connection we've built up. Or make her mad. So tempting tho.

Hi, a quick question: if it's all just in your mind, why can you recognize hellish or demonic faces or why do you need "protection" against evil energies, etc.? And then what's the point behind scrying if everything is just in the mind? I'm completely new to this topic^^

The best magick for me is the techniques I create! So the Killing stone broke releasing a wrathful 9 tailed demoness . Legend has it there is an evil spirit trapped in the Sessho-seki stone, so what happens now that the stone is broken?

Thank you for the great advice of using the screen of a phone or a tablet. I always wanted to do the experiment but I have not a black mirror. Tried a few time with a normal mirror with scarce results. I even painted a glass but it was not good. I will try this instead, thank you.

Have you tried scrying in water? A dark bowl with a candle nearby? This works well. Or even a darkened hall. Don't need much at all.

It was brightly lit with 5 lights I was brushing my teeth it was morning an older version of my self shook her head up and down as to say yes my head was not moving with my jaw dropped open wide eyed shocked look on my face yet I was completely 😳 it is a regular mirror. As for black mirrors I simply suggest the tv.

Great video, I have also found that works of art done with intent and by oneself can also be effective using a similar method. I try to work with one entity in particular, trust them and don't mention the fair appearance, but instead say that they choose the appearance and I will be fine with whatever it is. Horses for courses and I would not recommend this for everyone, just saying what I do. My religious beliefs lean toward the gnostic with regards to Christianity, so banishing rituals for me, with regards this entity are not helpful, required or needed. Again horses for courses. Fascinating stuff, thank you.

I have been using black mirrors in my art recently as canvases to fix spiritual forces within them. It is an attempt to use the black mirror as a component for greater creation rituals and not merely as a tool within magic. I made the mirror, and the paints used in it custom for the ritual, and imbued the surface with the spirit of War. Now I use it as a focus to help guide tactical foresight, an etheric portal that allows for greater and easier connection with the intention behind its purpose.

I have a question that I think you will be able to answer: Can I call on my "higher self" in order to scry?
