It was made by a NIN drummer, Trent Reznor famously composing Quake music before him. Doom 3 came out when i was 12, right a time when i was already obsessed with all iterations of Doom and Doom II. The music would later be my gateway to NIN and Tool (the tracks Lateralus and Triad sound similar to it in a bit). I highly recommend playing it and the Resurrection Of Evil extension, a lot of aspects from that game were huge inspirations for 2016 and Eternal.

The issue with MIDI is that you also have to specify which MIDI Synthesizer was used to render the sound. Because MIDI file only contains instructions to play sound. In essence, a MIDI file just says on Channel 1, play these set of notes on Acoustic Guitar. How the acoustic guitar will sound depends completely on the synthesizer. That's why your sound card+synthesizer combo decided how your music sounded during the 90s But by the time CD and high capacity HDDs became a thing, games switched to proper audio samples and MIDI became restricted to composers only. That being said I'll add what synthesizers where used (AFAIK) 00:00 - Roland SC-55 01:37 - Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (Windows built in MIDI Synth, this requires you to play the game on Windows, via DOSBox or Source Ports) 03:12 - Gravis Ultrasound with default patches (Gravis Ultrasound's MIDI Synth the GF1 chip was programmable so we could load our own wavetables) 04:48 - Gravis Ultrasound with Pro Patches Lite (One of the popular Custom Patch Set for Gravis Ultrasound) 06:25 - OPL2 (The Yamaha YM3812 chip was called the OPL2, lot of sound cards had it, popularly AdLib and Sound Blasters) 17:54 - Sounds like the game is using recordings from a Yamaha Synth in XG mode (Could be MU2000EX, I could be wrong, lot of Yamaha Synths in XG sound similar) 19:29 - DOOM II never had 'At DOOM's Gate' in it's soundtrack, but this just the exact same as 01:37 but played at 90% speed, did you get this from the launch version of Classic DOOM Unity Ports? Regarding 06:25 and 08:01, the YM3812(OPL2) and YM2612(Used in 32x) are highly programmable sound chips, so if you're a good programmer+composer you could produce very high quality sounds, disappointing how the 32x OST was a lazy conversion from the original MIDI with no tuning. A piece of Trivia on 14:36, the OST on DOOM 3DO port is a remaster done by Randy Scott, the CEO of Art Data Interactive. The port had horrible development cycle, the company promised too much when announced the port in Jan 1995, but did no actual work on it done till August 1995 where Rebecca Heineman given charge of "finishing" the port. She only had 2.5 months to single-handedly port DOOM to 3DO, and to make matters worse Randy used to put his nose in her work. So to keep him busy and out of her business, Heineman asked him to remaster the Soundtrack.
@UMBR.3 ай бұрын
Indeed. MIDI itself is merely instructions on what pitches/notes to play. An acronym that stands for *_Musical Instrument Digital Interface_* - MIDI is literally just a method of connecting computers, musical instruments, and other audio devices, and sending "messages" between them. MIDI itself does not carry any actual audio or sound itself. The sound will come from the instruments/computers/synthesisers being connected by the MIDI.

I always thought that the issue with the sega 32x soundtrack might come from an overblown bass that turns the sound into "fart music" or just poor instrumental choices because i had heard other 32x games music and it actually sounds fine. So one day i could love for some gaming wizard to just fix the issue with the music in the Sega 32x version of the game.
I mean the 32x’s music is basically produced through the Genesis chip plus an additional chip that adds extra channels, since it was just an add-on to the console. And Genesis music can either sound amazing (Sonic 3, Timothy Follin’s work) or shockingly terrible (the Sonic Spinball options menu)

The 3DO version of the game was pretty ass, because of mismanagement. I know the sole programmer who cranked it out in ten weeks, a very nice woman and absolute unit named Rebecca. But I gotta say, the music from that version is pretty bangin.

There is some misunderstanding about what MIDI is. A lot of those versions are MIDI, but the differences lies in the instruments packs used to emulate the track. That's whay, for instance, speaking about "midi dos version" is a non sens : you'll have different instruments (and so different output) based of the sound board you use (Sound Blasters were the most popular, but differences between the SB, SB16, SBPro, SBPro2, etc...), and also based on the type of output you select in the setup menu before starting the game. (General midi, SB, Adlib, Gravis...)

I need an extended version of 3:13-4:49 Sadly, it's nowhere to be found on KZbin, and the reason why u like it more is because I played a lot of doom on ps3 (doom 3 bfg edition)
