I have some Linn equipment which use switch mode power supplies in there speaker range. I've also just noticed that they have launched a new mono block amplifier that is class D. The sound is impressive but at a huge cost.

Currently, in the HI End market, there is a mess with pricing. I recognized it some years ago and took a nich - high-end board in a simple enclosure.

hifi amps are interesting topic, especially the versatile class D and diy. ony thoughts on the new class D with GaN fet's?

Two years ago, I thought that GaNi will start to take over, bat then there where long silence in industry magazines. GaNi has one huge drawback. By default, they have open state and it is sophisticate technical problem to build reliable and protected design. In parallel silicon MOSFETs continuously improving and latest development designs achieved GaNi specification with much less effort and proven technology. I think GaNi will take over automotive electrical car charging and systems, but will not land in Class D designs. Or will be adapted from the automotive industry sometime later. In my practice, I build a lot of amplifiers with exclusive specifications. But was disappointed in a blind test were was not able to clearly identify my design advantages against good amplifier working away from clipping. Things what in reality making difference are Bridged connection, Preamplifier and Power headroom. After studying top manufacturers, I found out the same principles. I think that there are no more secrets in amplifier part and if you are looking for next audio quality improvement you should get rid of passive crossover in 3way system and drive each speaker directly by dedicated amplifier using active crossover for band separation. You will find this trend in Professional audio industry. Practically there are no studio monitors with passive crossover anymore.

Do you sell the INA1650 pre-amp board without the casing? I’d prefer to retrofit into an old case to match my system.

No, we are not selling boards as a separate item. Our logistics are not able to handle transactions bellow 100 USD. There are some good boards in eBay what you can use for your projects. Search for SSM2141 Balanced input and unbalanced output Dual Channel Preamplifier Board. They are not specialized for ICE125ASX2 but are able to form a precise signal for bridge connection. Input impedance in a balanced connection is 20KOhm.

The unit is mono, correct ? Along with a balanced input, a simple RCA input will be welcome.

The RCA meant to be used with adapter cable keeping connection to amplifier chassis with XLR quality connector. For unbalanced connection you should shorten XLR pin 1 and 3

Why are you spending so much time reading their marketing BS and agreeing with it, rather bring the actual measurements and the truth. That's the point after all, right? Marketing pisses me off.

When making trustworthy measurements you need certified and each year recertified equipment. We do not have full equipment set for trustable factory level measurements. It is not worth to take just another soundcard grade measurements. Internet is full of them, but credibility is not at the professional level. Good manufacturers are providing trustable technical documentation and engineers relaying on them during the design process.
